There continues to be an alarming difference in the quality of coaching, captaincy and leadership in the comp.

Are the Sixers and Scorchers just lucking into the best lists/players? Or are the better franchises with better coaches.

If there was any integrity in the Stars lineup then Maxwell would be demoted or even dropped. We all know that won’t happen though.

As a staunch defender of the BBL I sorta enjoy the Sixers and Scorchers dominance as they're the two teams that take it seriously. Heat finally learned their lesson and sorted their bowling attack/mentality and look what happened. Back in the 14 game seasons I don't remember hearing the Sixers or Scorchers complaining that the season was too long meanwhile Stoinis used to take a weeks break mid-season. In fact I'm pretty sure Greg Shipperd came out when they shortened the season saying it was a mistake.

Scorchers more so than the Sixers have definitely 'lucked' into the fact that WA just produce white ball guns and have had guys like Behrendorff and Tye through their whole careers to date.

They have also lost a bit of talent over the years who have chased money elsewhere, but managed to cover it pretty well

Sixers and Scorchers build around their local players who are less inclined to leave and chase the $, and fill the gaps with the internationals.

When Khawaja signed with the Heat he told them to do the exact same thing (while telling Chris Lynn and drinking buddies to piss off) and hey presto, they came runners up then won a title.

The Stars are the Heat of several years ago. Maxwell has broken his leg at a party, hit his head fallen off a golf cart and been rushed to hospital after a bender. At the very least, this is not the bloke you want leading your team.

I wonder if part of the "no soul, no culture" problems with the Stars comes from the fact that they play most of their games at the MCG?

If the Renegades get say 20k at Marvel, it at least looks half full and has some noise. If they close the top level and get everyone down near the action, there can actually be a pretty good atmosphere even with a mediocre crowd.

If the Stars get 20k at the G, it just feels like a huge cavernous empty stadium with a bunch of seagulls flying around. There's honestly very little atmosphere with the crowd scattered all over.

It must be harder to build anything other than pure franchise vibes when you play home games in a dead environment.

Not see we'll see either player, as would think that Wells is ahead of Harris as a batting option, and Crone only if we opted to rest one of the current quicks

They also used to let Pietersen (their most important player) go home for Christmas, missing a couple of games.

I would say nil, but losing White to the Gades was a disaster in my view and it cut deep for a while. I have been bewildered by the majority of their signings since, hence my strong thoughts that the front office and coach and big 2 need to be moved on and effectively the franchise starts a new

The fact that there's bugger all to do in Adelaide on NYE with a family is not in any way a reflection on the quality of cricket being played.

On the field, this competition sucks this season, and it's particularly polarising cos we're seeing this all-time test series at the same time.

That’s the thing, the big bash has never been about good cricket and its fans don’t care about good cricket. It’s somewhere to keep the kids entertained for a couple of hours with music and fireworks, the cricket’s irrelevant and it appeals to non cricket fans.

It’s just a shame the kids entertainment has to take up a key slot in the summer when the tests are on, robbing players of a chance to play real cricket and put pressure on under performing players in the test side.

When it comes to quality of cricket, what are people actually expecting? T20 competitions aren't exactly the pinnacle of skill sets for fans and players alike so why are we trying to hold the BBL to some test adjacent standard?
