Falloon - what's he doing? Packing his bags!

maybe he does it for free and we have no choice?

as per the previous post in that we are the worst in EVERY department of fitness and conditioning, there can't be any other reason can there?

maybe Fallon will be humble enough to stand aside and let someone from Fernwood come in and toughen the boys up, fill them out a bit?

I reckon getting a workout at Curves would get us better results than falloon has over these last few years.

Woeful.

The mods should set up a petition on bigfooty and everyone that wants to see Falloon sacked should sign. Get 100+ signatures and then send it off along with a letter to the club about how this guy should no longer have a job. While we're at it we may as well add Rhode, Laidley and Cripps. Ah what a disaster the PAFC has become due to these clowns trying to run the show.

Hmmm... so you think our club taking notice of an online petition from anonymous posters to sack staff is the best way to go?

no, but 100 here are probably representative of 125+ memberships and if they received 100 emails asking the same question politely which asked for it to be tabled at the next board meeting it would have to be presented at the next board meeting

the other guys they wont listen to, but we can ask the club to explain how we can be the worst at every indicator

Essendon poached Gold Coast's high performance manager Dean Robinson. Looking at the size of those GC kids I wouldn't have minded Port being in on that action.

Apparently he went there because he was homesick.

Asking that the club's fitness staff be more open about where we got to with the fitness program in the past 12 months (ie not disclosing any secrets for next year), including being very honest about how well we think we assessed our readiness for the new sub rule, that would have more chance of getting a hearing at board level than flat out asking for staff to be lynched, err... sacked.

Falloon will be with us next year.

Spoke to Matty today, and Cam has been doing the role of several normal clubs.

Not only has he been putting our program together, but has had to do all the statistical work, developing the results etc. This is usually completed by a team, and someone like Cam would focus on the actual Program.

This will all change next year, so we should hopefully begin to see some actual results.

Wow, I wonder if anyone at all is going to be held resposible for the worst year in the history of the PAFC. Maybe just like at the end of 2007 we'll just write it off as a bad year.

If those in charge actually think a few more staff are going to change us from the laughing stock of the AFL to a genuine contender within 3+ years they are seriously deluded.

Cop out by Primus IMO. You can score very decent weight training programs of the net within minutes, same as fitness programs. I do realise AFL is a higher level but it's not like you have to invent something brand new. Programs have been around for years, might be touched up a little each year but it's hardly re-inventing the wheel stuff.

Looks like the only ones responsible for such a patheic and spineless year will be the obvious culprits - Matty Westhoff, Jason Davenport, Marlon Motlop & co.

If the bar isn't raised considerably, then no amount of extra staff is going to make any difference at all.

This guy should be first out of the door, and he shouldn't be an orphan either. You just can't stick your head in the sand over years like we have had. Last time we did that was end of 2007, which has led us where?

Still too much matey stuff down there at present - staff, players etc - no accountability or basic levels of achievement needed.

C'mon Port - start making the tough and necessary calls.

You don't think the changes in the way the game is being played over the last 5 or so years/ the interchange & sub system doesn't mean a change in the way players are trained?

I think there have been very large changes, I know the Crows changed their training at the end of last year to focus much more on burst running to accomodate for the extra rotations and pace of the game. I'm sure they aren't the only ones.

No doubt. The changes though aren't massive, not revolutionary, they are basic modes of achieving a certain aspect of fitness that any half decent fitness trainer should be able to implement. To analyze every little bit of data now avaliable to AFL fitness coaches etc, and look to gain that extra 5% or so through the interpretation of that data would require extra staff. But to just get guys looking bigger, being stronger, and able to run out AFL games to a basic level shouldn't require a team of people to achieve that. The knowledge of 1 person is more than enough for for those requirements - Falloon failed hopelessly on that level. Even looking at guys that have been in his system for years now I'd suggest he's never been any good.

To look at our side, and how scrawny they appear - even against the GC kids - is wrong. To see our players continaully "blowing up" and "hunched over, hands on knees" before qtr time is wrong. To see guys like Salopek looking like a 17 yr old is wrong, to see guys continually unable to hold tackles, or break through tackles because of their lack of size and power is wrong.

It was a total failure on all levels with how our side presented this year. No escaping that fact, and someone must be held responsible.

It's an excercise in becoming "kings of the bottom half" to constantly make excuses for failure. I'm sure the extra money will help next year but to think for 1 minute that that in itself is the sole reason for where we are now is plain frightening.

your spot on black 18. Fallon has no idea of what he is doing. What was the aim of this years fitness program? Are the players stronger and faster than last year. I think not. I'm sick of hearing how we had players miss preseason hence the drop off in fitness. All clubs have that problem and they seemed to handle it a lot better than we were able to. From all reports past and present players think he is a peanut. He has been there for years and since 2008 we have been run over the top by other clubs in the last quarter more times then I would like to remember. This is purely a fitness issue as if you have full belief in your physical attributes then you are also mentally a lot stronger. Our players are neither.

Instead of him analysing data why doesn't he watch the f'n games and see how all our players are hunched over while the opposition could play 5 quarters. You don't need data to see that our players are weak and have no tank.

A mate of mine in the Australian weightlifting fraternity was speaking to him about exercises just to see if he knew his stuff and he told me he couldn't explain to him the benefits and his reasoning associated with why he gets the players to do power cleans etc as he has no idea.

I think Black 18 is on the money. What we're seeing is not the result of 1 bad year, rather, we have been consistently small for a number of years when there have been extra staff. Would like to hear PF's thoughts.

The thing is is we re in the middle of a successful transition to better fitness we should be seeing some signs.

We should be either bigger, or faster or stronger with the rest to catch up as the program progresses. Unfortunately we don't seem to be progressing in any of these categories.

It seems to me that we have been unable to tailor programs that have allowed people to build up strength and fitness without injuring themselves so we have decided to back it off to avoid injuries. We need someone who has the know how to develop a program that will increase our strength and conditioning without injuring everyone and without having to back off.

We need Chad.
He got the best out of himself.
He got his body into as good a condition as he could.
His attitude to training appears to be second to none.
He has AFL background.
He either has or will soon have the right sort of qualifications.

All that he needs is experience.

On top of that he is a Port legend.

Have no idea whether Faloon is good or not, but how many times over the last 4 years have we given up a seemingly insurmountable lead? It could well be a mental problem for the players, but it has to be addressed somehow. We are also the smallest team in the AFL, I know Jonas is very inexperienced, but Riemers just went straight through him on Sunday like he wasn't there.

This.

Chad looked like our fittest player all year, and I suspect that was a result of him doing his own thing.

What Falloon does'nt seem to be able to do is develop a players physique with weights yet retain or improve endurance.Integrating anaerobic and aerobic in training drills takes a lot of adjustment physically .In the old days it simply involved doing supersets or trisets on weights followed by jogging or riding instead of resting but i am sure it is far more complicated now. It is a delicate balancing act with some players and injuries can occur such as with Hammer during his early development. However with hard work and persistence it can be acheived as we can see with our own Chad. The answer to our problem is obvious.

Well I have been shocked on a couple of our players.
Broadbent and Salopek appear to be withering away before my eyes, not accumulating awe inspiring bulk!

I suppose nothing to do with having been in the AFL system for 13 seasons compared to 1-3 for the majority of the players we are talking about?
