Why anyone would watch the A-League is beyond me. If your a football fan, surely you would just watch the EPL? I cringe watching the A-League, the standard is atrocious.
To support our national football league. To help it grow. Without supporters, it will go no where. Just wait a few years, and the leagues standard could lift heaps, it is still new.

Its going nowhere as it is. All the good local talent is already playing overseas, and that wont change anytime soon. I hope it picks up, but in all honesty it wont.

Also Another good reason to watch it is that the match times are alot better. I just watch both EPL and A-League.

And it's a developing league. With two new teams to come in soon enough, including another melbourne one, plus Australia are in the 2010 world cup, so fan numbers could jump up again if we can do well as we did last time.

when are you going to update the players with their new teams and delete the retired players monty?
I thought I did that the other day? I see Josh Gibson is listed as a Hawk in the Fanplanner now, for instance. I'm not enforcing the retirements just yet until after the pre-season draft, because anyone could do a Mal Michael and exhume himself.

Fair enough, cheers for the updates m0nty. Is it a little early for a quick "early trends" article? (get rid of the old burger). I recall this time last year Alex Rance being popular and you didn't understand why. Something along those lines.

Quick question. How long does it take to get the confirmation email? I tried opening an account last night, and wasnt allowed to progress until i clicked on my email notification?? I thought these things were sent instantly(minute or 2 max) and now almost 24hours later nothing??
I thought i may have mispelt my email address so i tried to start another account, yet it realised the email address and told me to wait for email confirmation?? Not too sure, anyone?

I think m0nty has to basically personally confirm each person that signs up so it is a little bit of a slow process mate. Plus, he has had a few internet issues and I'm not even sure that he's been re-hooked up yet but I'm sure he will confirm it when he next gets the chance. However, immediately after you sign up it should let you straight in, it is just re-logging in for when you need the confirmation to have taken place. m0nty wil sort you out soon though mate.

Monty has moved house and was due back online this weekend.

Give it a few days, shouldn't be far away.

Is it just me or do all of the players seem overpriced. Why have all the average prices gone up and rookies and players yet to debut are more expensive than last year. Is that normal?

Based on a magic number of 4600 multiplied by last years average score for each player. 1st Rd draft picks last year were more expensive than other rookies and will be the same again. 4600 is simply an estimate at this stage but will be around the mark given salary cap increase and past history.

Yeah the DT Salary cap is the AFL Salary Cap. The cap has a yearly adjustment for inflation. I believe its 2.5%.

I think Monty just applies the same percentage increase in the salary cap as he does the magic number.

Last year gave us the suprise of moving the "premium rookie pricing" from the top 10 to include the entire first round. This has been done again in 2010, that's why the projected top 5 rookies seem really expensive. The issue is that last year many of the DT relevant rookies weren't super high draft picks, where as this year the top 8 seem pretty DT ready.

Salary cap is based on the AFL collective bargaining agreement. Next year will be $7,950,000, up 3.33% on this year.

Monty has set a MN of 4650 for next year which is an increase of 4.80% on this years MN of 4437. Purely estimates on what the MN may be but will give you a good feeling for where the prices will come out.Simple way to work out the MN is to take the players price and divide it by their 2009 average. Unless they have a discount this is the estimated MN.

Discounts are based on what VS used in 2009 as follows:

1) 20% discount for all players playing 1-5 games averaging > 60.

2) Defenders : 20% for all players averaging > 50 and playing 1-5 games

3) 30% discount for full season missed (average > 75, still subjective, see Cousins)

If FWDS / MIDS played 1 or 2 games and averaged 50-60 they get a 20% discount, 3 games or more they get nothing.

Rucks between 50-60 average in 2009 = Not enough data to tell

In short:

- Salary cap does match the real AFL salary cap, which was laid out for five years in advance in the most recent AFLPA Collective Bargaining Agreement (not tied to inflation per se).

- Magic number inflation is purely an educated guess by me.

- Discounts and draftee premiums are based on last year's rules as per Fiddy's excellent analysis above (credit to him for that).

- You can guarantee that VS will introduce new pricing rules, as they do it every year, but they won't tell me or anyone about what they'll do next season so all we can do is wait for the hammer to fall.

And yes, I still have no home internet. :( Won't have it until Friday. Then, the work shall recommence on FanFooty 2.010.
