No doubt Ablett had a positive impact on your football club in the early years but the last 3 have been a circus part of that out of his control via injuries but a lot also down to him. I honestly believe the second he is gone the club will have some weight taken off it's shoulders, The new coach can coach without every 2nd question being about Gary and your young leaders can take control of the club.

A quick and easy trade, Get it done and move on, Finishing on good terms will also allow your club to focus on 2018 and beyond.

Just my outsiders perspective, Whatever happens good luck. (Just not this week please :p)

They do have Carlton's 2nd round pick don't they? That's as good as a late first rounder.
Geelong need a premiership now with the way they've recruited, and not drafted / developed kids. Ablett fits that bill & therefore they need to pay up for him. Otherwise make a strong stance as a club, retire him and not give a rival a free kick.
Also a large chunk of his contract was front ended. The guy has some cheek and I seriously hope he doesn't play another game for us.

After Rd21.....
Geelong have 19 33 51 69
Gold Coast have 4 21 22 24 32 39

Ok so a contract all of a sudden matters at Geelong but not up here on the GC..

Never said such a thing mate.

No need to be putting words in my mouth.

The question is not so much if a contract matters to Geelong ..its whether a player who has a contract and seems happy will agree to a move. Its not usa sports , although plenty would like it to change to something like it , where a club can push trade an unwilling player. Here a contract give the player power.

So really the starting point must be identifying a player who you like , and who sees the advantage of going to the Suns. If he is worth more or less than GA it could be balanced with a pick swap , the key is to just finding the player who wants a fresh start. Traditionally , unless there is a great incentive , most players rarely move if they are contracted , getting regular games and are happy.

To me , if a deal with a player is involved , it would be more likely to be a player that plays a similar role now to what GA may play and may get pushed down the selection list (eg. Lang , Gregson ) or a player that is fringe and may be looking for a regular game (eg. GHS , Ruggles ) ...or a player who is still uncontracted and could be tempted with a big offer. The obvious example would be throwing a bucket of money JK's way ..several 100 more than we could offer may turn his head.

Unfortunately , it seems a deal of some sort will be done. I think I have been clear on my pov. From an outsider view Id suspect with a new coach to be appointed at the Suns he would want clean air as much as anything. Would he want another 12 months of these on and off games? He may just be happy to make GA someone else's problem ..and if can get a solid player that strengthens your best 22 selection options for 5 plus years from the deal , all the better.

I think every gc supporter would be happy to see him go now. Not worth the trouble.
Get a deal done quickly and both clubs can move on. Pick 19 or GHS and 33 for Ablett and 39 would surely satisfy most people.

A swap of picks or a pick alone. GHS is as soft as butter, no more list cloggers.

Gold Coast chief Mark Evans has gone to unusual lengths to stamp out talk of Gary Ablett leaving the Suns at the end of the AFL season.

Gold Coast boss Mark Evans has bristled at suggestions Gary Ablett has played his last AFL game for the club.

The Suns chief executive went to amusing lengths to shut down talk of the midfielder's potential exit on Wednesday, playfully slapping the hand of a journalist with a club brochure when pressed on the subject.

Ablett will miss Saturday's final home game of the season against Essendon on Saturday due to a recurring hamstring injury.

"It's not his last game. He's contracted for another year and that's my first priority - not to organise farewells but to make sure (players) want to be here the following year," he said.

Evans was then asked if he was certain Ablett would remain on the Gold Coast, to which he replied "Stop it" while jokingly slapping the journalist with a brochure.

While Evans want Ablett to stay, the chief executive said the club was bigger than any individual.

"If people really think this club is based around one individual, one coach, one CEO, one captain, one star player, one recruit next year, one draftee. You think it's based around one person, you've got the wrong idea about what high performance is all about," he said.

"We will build a culture that celebrates and pushes hard to be better every single day."

Speaking at the Suns' reconciliation plan launch on the Burleigh Heads foreshore, the former AFL football operations manager said he'd seen enough to convince him the code could achieve success on the Gold Coast.

"Every club, every franchise in the world has to connect and mean something to its community and I know it can be delivered here," Evans said.

Well done on your achievement and yes it works. Great article standing up for the club. Yes it would be great from him to stay and prove the media wrong but it won't bother me if he leaves

I would have thought that Geel will baulk at giving too much for Ablett and certainly not Menegola. Mitchell was playing more games than GAJ and he was given away for virtually nothing as was Lewis. Ablett wants out and i'm assuming GC will want an end to the fact he wants out and doesn't want to play for your club. He may well only play 1 more season and unlikely a full one given his injuries.

I would avoid the confrontational approach and let him walk and then give some younger players the chance to take up the midfield slack.

Ablett is still a top 5 player in the comp, no club would give him away for nothing. We would rather see him retire. If the family mater was that bad he would of walked away by now. He's just trying to screw everyone over, he's not even injured, watch him play every game next year at Geelong if they can get a deal done

I'm not sure how others look at it, but for me he doesn't want to be at the GC for family reasons so accept it and more on. Brad Hill didn't screw us over we traded him for less than his worth because that's what he wanted.

I'm not sure if Ablett is top 5 but he's certainly close when fit, but any prospective coach isn't going to get an extended use of his abilities. If I was Geel he might be enough to put them over the top for a flag so he has value.

If it turns nasty then i'll be getting the popcorn cause it could drag on for months...
