I'm not sure how others look at it, but for me he doesn't want to be at the GC for family reasons so accept it and more on. Brad Hill didn't screw us over we traded him for less than his worth because that's what he wanted.

I'm not sure if Ablett is top 5 but he's certainly close when fit, but any prospective coach isn't going to get an extended use of his abilities. If I was Geel he might be enough to put them over the top for a flag so he has value.

If it turns nasty then i'll be getting the popcorn cause it could drag on for months...
Haha you lost me when you compared the Ablett trade to Brad Hill

We got nothing for Sam Mitchell and a first round pick for Brad Hill. Mitchell played one year and Hill will be a very good player for multiple years. Ablett is a shoulder injury or bad hamstring from retirement at his age although he is still fantastic when fully fit.

From Evans comments it looks like a saga brewing with Ablett wanting out and Suns putting their foot down.

I think every gc supporter would be happy to see him go now. Not worth the trouble.
Get a deal done quickly and both clubs can move on. Pick 19 or GHS and 33 for Ablett and 39 would surely satisfy most people.

No picks. GHS and Kolo and you got a deal :thumbsu:

Would've happily thrown in Josh Caddy as steak knives too if we still had him.

We can't allow contracted players to get up and just leave when it suits them. If he really doesn't want to be there for family reasons then he may have to retire. Why should we give a rival a free leg up for nothing in return?

My take on it is that Ablett is a contracted player who should fulfill his contractual obligations. However, certain circumstances should see a player be relieved of their contract, i.e. extenuating family circumstances outside of the players control and not realistically conceivable at the time of initially signing the contract.

What I don't think should happen is that GC lose Ablett for a bag of peanuts. I also don't think Ablett himself has a right of passage to just return to Geelong on a whim.

If Ablett needs to be relieved of his contractual obligations, then he's on the back fott when it comes to demanding how GC play it from there. If Ablett is forced to retire, so be it. If GC aren't fairly compensated, they have no reason to just let him walk.

If Ablett really wants to go back to Geelong for family reasons, then going back to Geelong the city should be his number one priority. Going back to Geelong the club should be a bonus in his compromised position.

Exactly well put. If Ablett needs to be back home for family reasons, then retire.

If he wants to play AFL, then he plays for the GCS. If he wants a trade to Geelong, then Geelong need to pay overs for obtaining a contracted player. Simples.

Yep agreed , since he is contracted Gaz should let us get the best deal possible from all 10 Melb clubs to get home , should'nt just be Geelong.

There will be definitely one Victorian Club that will believe they are in premiership window next year that will give up a first rounder for him.

A swap of picks or a pick alone. GHS is as soft as butter, no more list cloggers.

Clearly you don't watch the cats play. If you said GHS was slow I'd agree. But he is certainly not soft as butter.

Gold Coast chief Mark Evans has gone to unusual lengths to stamp out talk of Gary Ablett leaving the Suns at the end of the AFL season.

Gold Coast boss Mark Evans has bristled at suggestions Gary Ablett has played his last AFL game for the club.

The Suns chief executive went to amusing lengths to shut down talk of the midfielder's potential exit on Wednesday, playfully slapping the hand of a journalist with a club brochure when pressed on the subject.

Ablett will miss Saturday's final home game of the season against Essendon on Saturday due to a recurring hamstring injury.

"It's not his last game. He's contracted for another year and that's my first priority - not to organise farewells but to make sure (players) want to be here the following year," he said.

Evans was then asked if he was certain Ablett would remain on the Gold Coast, to which he replied "Stop it" while jokingly slapping the journalist with a brochure.

While Evans want Ablett to stay, the chief executive said the club was bigger than any individual.

"If people really think this club is based around one individual, one coach, one CEO, one captain, one star player, one recruit next year, one draftee. You think it's based around one person, you've got the wrong idea about what high performance is all about," he said.

"We will build a culture that celebrates and pushes hard to be better every single day."

Speaking at the Suns' reconciliation plan launch on the Burleigh Heads foreshore, the former AFL football operations manager said he'd seen enough to convince him the code could achieve success on the Gold Coast.

"Every club, every franchise in the world has to connect and mean something to its community and I know it can be delivered here," Evans said.

Looks like the softening of the suns supporters has started! The bolded paragraph is where the story is at! Beginning to sell it to the members also. Ablett headed south.

It's good to see we finally are seeing that supporters of other clubs are coming onto the thread here and seeing what an inherent danger this slimy deal of Geelong is and would be to the Australian sporting landscape.
The creation of a Golden State Cats will have mammoth repercussions.
It can't be allowed.

Really hope that the Suns draw a line in the sand here. Your Club and supporters needs to stand firm and demand overs for Ablett.

Scotty I say it out of pure jeolousy as to how awesome your team is.
Just enjoy it. You are very lucky that your NBA team have become so fantastic.
You have gone for them all your life, you haven't jumped on the bandwagon so you should just enjoy the good times and not worry about my analogy.

The Suns did last year with JOM, of course let him go, but they held firm and didn't just lay down like Hawthorn thought they would. But when this happens fans like Hawthorn's have a sook and say 'Why would people want Tony Cochrane as Chairman, that shows how much this club sucks'

Pardon the intrusion - but the Hawks didn't get a first round pick for Brad Hill - we got Freo's second round compensation pick that they got for losing Chris Mayne.
