Tried XXXX Bitter on Saturday night and I have to say it's one of the worst tasting beers I've ever had.

The old man lives on the gold coast and its his staple. Can definately say its not father like son, its crap for sure. I'd prefer VB over it when i visit him

See if you can find bottles of Guinness Export.

That's real Irish Guinness not the stuff that is brewed under license.
Not quite. It is brewed in Ireland by Guinness, but is a different brew designed for i) travelling and ii) the international market. It is different to the Guinness Draught you get in Ireland on tap, which is fantastic, and different again to the stuff you find in Australia

For any Melburnians attending the brewery showcase at Fed Square mid March, hope that Red Duck are there and have this one to sample. It'll cost you a few tokens, but well worth the try.
This is well worth highlighting. I went last year and it was worth every penny. Make sure you get there early to give yourself enough time to get around to all the beers. And I would recommend taking notes on the beers too, otherwise you are bound to forget which ones you liked! Mind you, I didn't taste too many shockers there.

Your right, Guinness doesn't travel well.

I didn't say it was the same as tap stuff, just that it's brewed in Ireland.

Not only that, but it's a bit stronger in ABV than the tap beer, or the ones you get in the widget cans.

Matilda Bay Fat Yak - very different to the Little Creatures, but a pretty well flavoured Pale Ale, not too far removed from a Coopers Pale (this can only be good:thumbsu:).

My experience with the Fat Yak was a good one. Nice easy drinking pale ale, good session beer. Nothing too complex, but above average in the flavour department.

IT reminded me a little of Emerald Hill pale ale, another good, easy drinking session ale (RIP).

As we all know I think Low-carb beers are predominantly flavourless. I tried a stubbie of Carlton Natural Blonde and found it to be quite flavoursome and drinkable.

Isn't that stuff just Carlton Dry re-packaged?

Yeah its surprising how much choice they have over there... its not like they have a higher demand. The populations only 300 million

For a long time the only thing you could buy was mass-brewed piss, due to some holdover of the Prohibition era. I live in Georgia and until about two years ago you couldn't buy high-gravity beer, and you could tell by the amount of choice there was. Since that ban was lifted the amount of beer available has exploded.

Still can't open the bottle-o's on Sundays, though!

A good light beer at the moment is Cascade Premium Draught. Not a bad taster, and good if your driving somewhere... Also by drinking beer while playing poker at the casino, you look less concerned about the game and less of a threat at the casino, making it easier to make a profit...

I was buying a couple of mixed beers at the bottle'o today and decided to get two IPAs and do a comparison. I got a Gage Rd IPA (5.1%) and a James Squire IPA (5.6%). I found the Gage Rd one much easier drinking, it would be better as a session beer, but overall the Squire was superior in flavour. Seeing as the Squire was the cheaper and more alcoholic of the two I'd call it the winner.

Also bought a 6 pack of Monteiths Original Ale. Very nice and full of flavour for a beer that is only 4%

I just use a stubby holder so it doesn't slip out of my hand. :p

Had a Rochefort 10 at the Belgian Monk in Norwich this weekend.

The most ninjaest of beers I've ever had. Totally crept up on me without warning.

Bloody fantastic though.

11% strong ales you can consume with a knife and fork will do that to you.

:thumbsu: for your discerning taste.

I dare you drink 2 at the end of a session ;)

Had plenty of Chimay Blue's when I was in Beligum late last year. At 2.70Eur from the supermarkets, they can do some serious damage. And still the best beer on the planet.

Rochefort 10 and Chimay Blue are great. Loved it in Belgium where you could get them cheap in the supermarkets
