So who's your favourite Cats player that you've seen play?

Mine is Kenny Hinckley. Skinny as a rake, but gutsy as all ****. Should have won a brownlow, but Worsfolds brother snapped him out after half time when he would have had 3 votes, and he ended up with 0. Only lost the brownlow by 2! Can't remember the year. Mybe 92 or 93.

So guys who's your favourite?

Moonos - as a Hinkley fan like myself, if you get a chance, go back and watch the last 5 minutes of the 94 prelim final. There is a piece of play with about 90 seconds left, scores tied, North with the ball going down the outer wing. Hinkley is playing on Adrian McAdam (who he gave an absolute bath that day), Kenny leaves his man to intercept the North player's kick, hits the ground running, then on the left foot hits Riccardi (I think) with a perfect pass. The ball stays in our forward line for the rest of the game, the ball ends up in Ablett's hands and the rest is history.

For reading of the play and leaving your man at the right time, and prefect execution of foot skills on his opposite side, under the most pressure imaginable, it was classic Hinkley.

It was just a pity he came to the Cats as a mature age recruit, so we didn't see him for longer (only 121 games for the Cats - but gee they were quality).

Will do! I love Kenny, and I'm so happy he's back at Geelong and finally winning a flag. I remember him running off the back line, and no one could touch him. Used to get past 3 or 4 players like nothing!

He was an absolute gun, and ahead of his time as an attacking half back. He and Guy McKenna paved the way for the attacking half back flanker, who started getting tagged by a defensive forward.

He would be an absolute superstar in today's team, with the quality key defenders he would be surrounded by. Tim Mcgrath, Tim Darcy, etc are not quite in the quality of Scarlett, Egan, Harley, Milburn. No offence to Messrs McGrath and Darcy.

Ken Hinkley is the player which Andrew Mackie should aspire to be.

I agree. We had a serviceable backline in those days. Pity we didnt have Scartet and Egan. But I've been watching Mackie from his first game just like every other Cats fan, and he should be AA this year!!

From Geelong - J Bartel I have never seen a player Better, Pound for pound guts and balls, with the skills to boot, Not very often you see jimmeh make a mistake and when he does, its becuase another teammate has let him down.

Other Teams - T Lockett I never seen a player demand the ball so much, I miss the old skool fowards that kicked 5 goals a game time and time again, Also he was a big guy like me. :thumbsu:

A 'favourite player' thread without an Ablett reference - incredible!

Favourite would have to be Bill Brownless. The guy was a big country kid, still is as a matter of fact.

I remember when he won games to put us into the finals after a long spell in the two's and games missed due to injuries. The shear enthusiasm he had when he was 'back' was awesome.

Plus the guy still loves the Cats no matter what. His emotion on GF day, shows what a likeable persona he has.

Definitely my favourite.

My favourite was Bill Ryan. He wore number 26. A bit too long ago for the vast majority on this board. He had to leave Geelong due to his kids' asthma. He played at Southport in QLD where he was also a star.
I still think that he took the mark of the century.

I'm more than happy to throw GOD into this mix because he was my favourite Geelong player.

However, I also liked Mark Bairstow and Barry Stoneham (before Baz busted his leg).

As for the present day players - The Jimmy (I wish I could prove that when I saw his first match against St Kilda I told anyone who would listen that he was a guy to watch down the track). Also love Chappy - just his polish on the ground and his 'spade-is-a-spade' attitude off it.

As for other teams - could watch Judd play every week, Jonno Brown when fully fit is awesome and Andy Mcleod is pretty special.

Bartel's first game (home and away game at least) was against Essendon at the MCG in a season opener I think. Got crunched by Fletcher early.

True - I was there that night too.

I meant Bartel's first game against St Kilda as opposed to his first game which was the Bombers (you're right).

I think The Jimmy got a Rising Star nomination against the Saints down at the Cattery.

How anyone who saw the great man at his peak could nominate anyone else as their favourite player has me more than a tad perplexed

Must be fashionable not to mention G Ablett

I was only a kid when Gazza was running around, and thats why I went Scarlo. However I have bought old Geelong games just to see the great man.

even funnier that he came to us as a forward and after a few games kicking shannon byrnes esque numbers 1.5 and 2.7 he was moved by blight to the back half.

and that is where the great man became sir kenneth hinkley.

geeeez thats a tough question, especially if you've been following the team (and league) for the best part of two decades.
I'd say Max Rooke and/or Paul Chapman atm however in past years i've liked others such as Brad Sholl and Andrew Bews.
Not the most obvious choices but gave good service to the club.
I love them all though
