Ringing up SEN straight after the game calling Hawthorn a disgrace.

I know the club is used to receiving handouts, but honestly, did they expect Clarkson to give instructions to allow Fevola, Carlton's only target in the second half, free run at the ball?

Isn't the reason 100 goals is so celebrated is because its bloody hard to get, and because the opposition make you earn it? What did Carlton expect?

What a weak response to getting belted by a better opponent, and trying to deflect that fact and take it out on the opposition in any way the can.

Poor.

I think the problem people have had with it, is whether or not it was in the spirit of the game. If Fev was on 50 goals, would they have triple teamed him late in the game? Of course not. I don't think anyone was expecting Hawthorn to just hand him the 100, but just playing the game as you normally would is what probably should have been done. Going out of your way to prevent someone achieving a milestone is pretty ordinary.

Re: Carlton Supporters Complaining about not gifting Fevola his 100

There was a massive thread on this subject on here earlier which seemingly got deleted because a few people were getting out of hand. General consensus though seemed to be that the people complaining about it were idiots.

If Fev was on 50 goals I doubt Carlton would have gone to Fev 4.5 times out of 5.

Carlton probably did Fevola a disservice by going to Fevola too much?

Question is, if Carlton was in our shoes, would you support Carlton gifting Hawthorn a 100 goal a year goalkicker, that's not the Carlton way of the 1990's I remember.

Re: Carlton Supporters Complaining about not gifting Fevola his 100

want some french cries with your waahburger?

No.

Because I'm not one of those Carlton supporters who were bitching about Clarkson's supposed "tactic" in the dying minutes.

If you want to continue embarrassing yourself by towing the line with me that you do with some of the others, then go right ahead.

But hardly unexpected from a club which takes great pride in playing "unsociable football".

Re: Carlton Supporters Complaining about not gifting Fevola his 100

you can understand why they were so disappointed. Has there ever been such crowd excitement when a team is being so totally smashed in a game. Like Fevola - most Carlton supporters were obsessed with this relatively meaningless individual milestone and oblivious to the reality of a total reaming. The OP is correct I think - they have become accustomed to getting stuff on a plate. I thought Hawthorn's approach to the farce - unlike the umpires - was spot on. Would have been a disgraceful 100 especially given that last goal from a free. That ump should get a week.

Considering a TOC Carlton player twice tried to finish Piggys career I think not.

Mind you carlton of todsy have the begging bowls out at every opportunity. They'll go hard after Kerr and call the season a 'success'

Re: Carlton Supporters Complaining about not gifting Fevola his 100

What a load of rubbish

What is this, charity week for full forwards who nearly have 100 goals?

Hawthorn have every right to make it as tough as possible for the opposition to score, regardless of the score, or an individual's target.

Fevola being the Blues route to goal naturally drew the Hawk defenders to him, good on them for stopping him from getting the 100 goals

Re: Carlton Supporters Complaining about not gifting Fevola his 100

Hawthorn's decision to put 4 players on Fevola was poor form. It shows a lack of respect for Carlton. If it was a Collingwood or Essendon or Port Adelaide forward in the same position I would say the same thing. A lack of respect for the game and for the opposition.

I think there is a good chance Hawthorn will regret this decision sometime in the coming 3 seasons.

I certainly will be hoping Hawthorn get smashed by 100 points by Geelong in the finals.

Go Cats!

Hawthorn fans who actually went to the game

Be honest, for those Hawks fan who actually went to the game did you want Fevola to kick one more?

Every Hawthorn supporter around me was on the edge of there seats in hope Fev could nail his 100th and be apart of history.

Logging onto Bigfooty this morning and browsing a few threads i havent seen one Hawks supporter admit they wanted fev to kick his tonne. Bitter that you weren't there to be apart of history perhaps?

Now my opinion on the dieing minute tactics made by the hawks is that i think its a dog act, i didn't expect Fevola to be gifted a goal by the Hawks but give him a even contest at it. We played one on one with Buddy all night.

<editing this out, i still hope karma finds a way back to clarkson...just not in a physical manor>

I hope Clarkson gets hit by the Karma bus, or any type of bus for that matter.

What game were you at??????????

Re: Hawthorn fans who actually went to the game

Firstly, I must say that it was the first time I have watched my beloved hawks and barracked for the opposition full forward. I did hope he would get it, but glad the hawks didn't gift it to him. He had his chances. I think it would have diminished the achievement if we hand balled it to him in the goal square.

Thought his performance on the night was awesome, and I reckon right at the end he was stiff to not get a free kick (think it was the last entry by Kreuzer maybe where he was shepherded away from the contest).

Re: Carlton Supporters Complaining about not gifting Fevola his 100

Grow up

It was the Hawks job to stop the Blues, & Fevola, any way they could.

This is Aussie Rules FFS, not bloody Dressage for show ponies

wtf??? What in the world makes you think that Carlton has any respect??? or deserves any???. For Carlton supporters to moan about this shows just how little they know about the game and the way it should be played, it may have a fair bit to do with the way their club has handled things in the recent past.

PS Fairytale ending.:thumbsu:

Re: Hawthorn fans who actually went to the game

I was barracking (and another hawks fan called me a disgrace to my scarf) but I was also enjoying a new low level the once mighty blues have fallen to.

PS It's very hard barrackig for carlton these days.

So it's gone from 2 players to 3 players to 4 players now.

It became a farce in the end ... Fev had his chances and he missed them.

Tough Luck, but that's football.

Re: Hawthorn fans who actually went to the game

I wanted him to earn it ... but really couldn't care less that he didn't get it.

Was quite amusing how much extra effort he was putting in to reach his personal goal ... hopefully he can do that every week to help the team achieve it's goals.

His spats in the last quater were funny though aye!
