Fevola a Lion

I suppose when you look at it that way, it is an excellent deal. Effectively:

  • Fevola for Henderson
  • 27 for 12 (to even up)

Effectively it's saying that we've swapped a good young player for one of the top ten players of the competition, with a down-grade of 15 places for our first draft pick. There's no doubt that Carlton could pick up a great player with pick 12, and Henderson is certainly a great prospect. But, Fevola is a definite gun and we could still pick up a good player with pick 27.

Likewise, I think that we can also replace Henderson with some astute list management in the future. A.Cornelius looks a good prospect and there's the opportunity for us to redraft or rookie M.Tyler. They're probably not as "likely" as Henderson, but then again we are only talking about ONE player, not about us having given up multiple young guns (ie: Rich or Clark). So, whilst we may be disappointed to have had to have gone to Plan B, the deal in itself is fairly good.

However, I am fairly (read VERY) concerned as to how we're going to accomodate Brown, Fevola and Bradshaw in the team at once. It sounds bad, but I actually hope that we trade Bradshaw (and maybe another player or two) off to someone later today to avoid this issue and also free up some salary cap space.

Sydney or Collingwood, are you interested?!

Same way you accommodated Lynch, Brown and Bradshaw although I do admit the game's changed slightly since. Allows you more flexibility with Bradshaw.

When the window is open you must have a red hot crack which is exactly what the Lions are doing. Bradshaw will play CHB and do a bloody good job. The Drafts will be garbage for 5 years now anyways.

We've just made ourselves the oldest list in the comp with no draft picks, in an era where GC and WS are about to pick all the good players.

We've mortgaged the future on a misplaced 1 year tilt at the flag. Not good.

I have a feeling Vossy wants Brisbane to be a force when GC enter the competition next year.

And Fev + Brown = a solid 3-4 year window. That is a disgustingly potent forard line. Fev will not only take a defender off Brown (freeing him up) but will also have far more freedom himself.

Im terrified as to what Fevola will be capable of without the oppositions three best defenders molesting him for 4 quarters week in and week out. Im expecting fairly regular 8 goal hauls from the Fev.

Make no mistake about it, Fevola is a freak.

Watch the Allstars game from last year for an example of what happens when he gets freed up and 'only' draws the oppositions best full back. In tandem, Brown and Fevola will be a nightmare to stop.

But I have to agree with you otherwise. Its going to be hard to locate and retain quality youth over the next 4-5 years of GC and WS draft concessions.

Anyway take care of our Fev because deep down all Blues fans will always love him, and I will watch every brisbane game next year sub-conciously hoping Fev plays a blinder.

Selfishly, living in Brisbane this means we get to see much more of Fev. Hopefully he and Brown are taken ill when Brisbane plays Carlton, :D but from a Brisbane-based Carlton fan's perspective it is probably the best we could have hoped for. Joyful regret is the best I can come up with.

Of course, now Carlton might be stuffed for the next few years. :(

Everybody has a bit of animal in them. Lets just Fevola saves his Animal for on the field in 2010. There has been allegations of more garbage he has allegedly done at teh brownlow on ninemsn

Yeah it will ALL come out now.

Somewhat OT but:

The only good news is - who is going to kick Carlton's goals? Is Henderson a 50 goal forward yet?

SEN just announced we are after Pavlich.. Ill give that all the credit it deserves.

Seriously though, Kruezer will be tried up forward (big ask for the Kid) Henderson gets a walk up gig as a key forward. Both likely prospects, but young and untried. Will also draft a KPP with pick 12.

We also have the three 'smalls' in Yarran, Betts and Gartlett. Could be capable of anything between them.

The oldest of the above list is Betts at 23. Our future for the next ten years is looking pretty good.

Murphy, Gibbs and Judd are reasonably good goalkicking midfeilders and Waite is both proven up forward, and a very handy tall option. Juddy at 26 is the oldest of that trio, with Murph and Gibbs 22 and 21 respectively.

We also have list cloggers/ fringers such as Setanta, Cloke and Fisher who we hope will stand up and fill the vacum.

Should be intresting.

The elusive "Premiership Window"... always reminds me of playschool - which window is Vossy looking through today? :p

I dreamt of a Brown / Fevola forward line.
Sadly it was for Carlton, though.

You guys can now seriously challenge for the big one.
You have also the upmanship on the GC next year.

I'm happy for the deal we attained but that was only in consideration of events.
Not looking forward to playing Brisbane next year, neither would our back line be, or any backline for that matter.

TRADE NEWS: Brendan Fevola will be doing a press conference at Wet 'n Wild on the Gold Coast at 4pm.

A theme park seems an appropriate location after this rollercoaster circus of a trade week.

They'll probably show Vossy and Fev sliding down the Speed Slide together, holding hands.

Looking forward to Matilda the Kangaroo's thoughts on the trade too.

I'm assuming that we needed to make room in our salary cap, which was the reason behind offering up Riska and Bradshaw. With this new deal, how are we paying Fev's salary? Or is Carlton paying some of it?
Anyone shed any light?

The Word is that Pick #27 was thrown into the deal as a 'sweetener' for you guys to pay his contract.

$2 Million over 3 years.

On the one hand, I'm rapt that we have kept our boys..on the other, I will never be happy that Fev is wearing our jumper..

Just to be completely contradictory, yes, I will love every goal he kicks, but I cannot + will not warm to a person like him, no matter if he is in our jumper...

I heard (SEN) we are paying all of his payments...secondly, and more importantly, why would Bradshaw not want to play out his last couple of years (or however long) with us, and get the farewell he surely deserves from us, then move back home?..why would he want to move to another club now?..Or did he not have a say in all of this trade business either?..

I feel very proud of young Riska for being strong enough to say NO..the pressure on him must have been enormous!..Just hope he is not made to feel he let down the club..

Having heard the allegations against Fev, already on some threads, we are being made to look like fools for taking him, suits the culture etc..Aahhg!!

Mark my words, this guy will bring us pain!

Why do you have to keep saying every hour or so that the trade won't happen? Are you mentally preparing yourself or something?

If this trade falls over tomorrow, Carlton will be shitting their pants.

Swinging a whole new trade before 2pm tomorrow afternoon would be a nightmare.

Carlton NEED to do the trade, we don't. Brisbane are well placed. 1pm tomorrow afternoon, we say "Rischitelli has pulled out, Bradshaw and Fev's full salary is all we can do".

If they tell us to **** off, so be it.

Or..they say ok we'll give you Henderson and pick 12
Much much more happier with this trade :thumbsu: :D

Extremely sad to see Fev go, but the Lions are my second favorite club and have been for several years, and I'm very happy he went there. I would love to see him have a long and established career with the Lions, so that when he retires you can say he was a "Brisbane great" just like we will always call him a Carlton great.

ability wise, you were just handed one of the top 10 full forwards of all time. i honestly believe that.

I was against the trade but now that it's done you have to give the guy a fair chance. The media doesn't have a great track record in portraying people for who they really are and, you never know, he might pleasantly surprise you.

The pain in our arms from holding up another premiership cup !!!

Hope so:thumbsu::D
