Re: FFGenie 2010.1

Are the breakevens correct for DT.
They differ from Fantasy Freako's and I'm not signed up for the Assistant Coach
to be able to check.

Thanks for FFGenie...donation made.

Edit: I've since found out that they're fairly accurate and Freako's breakevens are way out,
and the breakevens are a calculated prediction because you don't know the magic number until the round has finished.
FFgenie breakevens seem to be within a couple of points of what Assistant Coach is predicting.
Thanks for that, I was concerned after reading the Freako and seeing the discrepancies in the BEs. I did about an hour's research but I couldn't find a reason for this, my main guess would be the byes coming into play somehow?

I don't have Asst Coach so it's reassuring to know that it's close to that. Although I do find it weird that Freako and Asst Coach don't match up since aren't they both done by CD or VS?

Re: FFGenie 2010.1

After adding "If score", is there anyway to get rid of it, besides hiding it?

And also is there a way to judge their 2 or 3 round movement, besides using the default. Like atm you can only add "if score x" for just 1 round in advance.

Cheers

Apparently Champion data just supply the stats and virtual sports work out the
breakevens.
I think Freako just made a mistake.
His breakevens are about 20 points above Assistance coach predictions.

I also checked out tooserious and his BEs are closer to the Freako's than FFGenie's. However, checking tooserious' SC BEs, they are almost exactly the same as FFGenie (There is no SC equivalent of Freako is there?). I don't understand how this can be possible since I'm using the same formula for both DT and SC.

Re: FFGenie 2010.1

Everyone's BE is driven by an algorithmic guess about short term Magic Number decay, based on observing previously years' behaviour in Magic Number and Prices. However this year is a bit different due to a combination of byes (and multi-bye rounds), and the high number of rookie priced player in GCS, all having their first, and biggest, price change (upward) this week. It isn't surprising that there is a bit more spread in the algorithmic guesses about what impact that will have this week.

With 3 teams resting and GCS playing there will be a bigger proportion of the total points scored by rookie priced players than ever before - who all will want price rises. So someone's price has to fall. It's a bad week for any of your playing premium players to perform well below their expected level.

I think people place too much importance on BEs anyway - it's RELATIVE scoring performance v $ invested that matters.

On another note:
I can't get Round 3 file from "website" using either the online or standalone (v2011.4) ffgenie this week. I could get a "scrape" for round 3 though. I updated Java again this week although I doubt this was the problem. The most obvious possible reason is that round 3 file hasn't been uploaded yet, is anyone else having problems?

Re: FFGenie 2010.1

I haven't uploaded Rd 3, I can't do it at work anymore and I keep forgetting to do it at home!

Bugger... i'm stuck behind a corporate firewall at work so can't download via website or AFL scrape. Damn those firewalls!

Thanks for the good work though Grim!

EDIT: All good... i used internet tethering via my phone to do a scrape! :)

Re: FFGenie 2010.1

As a person new to ffgenie, does anyone have any tips on how they use it? Love having all the information in one spot now im just wondering how to get the most out of it.
I guess what im asking is what do you use ffgenie for specifically?

See the tutorial here:

It's not completely up to date but it covers the major parts of it.

If you understand the basics, then these are the main things I use.

1. Break Evens
2. Predicted price changes, just gives you a good understanding of what price a player may potentially drop/gain.
3. Previous scores, it is always important to keep in mind when a low score is about to drop out of the system. This is normally the moment when a sharp increase can start to occur.
4. Learn to use the filters, just speeds up the research process.

I often filter out players by position and then look at all the players with the highest BE and lowest BE.
I also like to sort out the players that have dropped the most in price, you can sometimes find some bargains in this section. You still have to determine the reason behind their drop in value and if the player can fix the issue.

Re: FFGenie 2010.1

Grim, my rnd 5 has Didak's BE at 3. I think it's meant to be ~100. Is this what other people are seeing or is it just me? Cheers. :thumbsu:

My file also seems to be predicting Jimmy Bartel's "real price" to be 642k. There must be something funny going on.

For me Didak's BE is 101 and Bartel's real price is $421,400.

This is for DT, I updated this round using the data scrape function.
