I wouldn't put it past the AFL to troll us like that.

But I highly bloody doubt it.

Geelong might wear white shorts instead of Blue but that's about it
No chance
Can’t remember last time cats wore white v swans
Probably when senior kicked 14 up there

Geelong in blue shorts confirmed.

does this mean both sides wear home jerseys?

Yes, both teams will be in full home kit - jumper and shorts - as they always wear against each other.

This really was never in doubt but people around here always like to preemptively assume the AFL will screw things up.

What are the chances Sydney don their Melbourne/South Melb kit?

Zero point zero zero.

Apart from the fact its a major clash, Sydney clearly demonstrated against Melbourne that they prefer to wear their home kit in finals when there is no clash. And for good reason too, its a huge part of their branding. They want people in Sydney to see a team with an Opera House on their jumper winning the premiership. Thats how they connect with Sydneysiders.

The South kit is a nice touch for Melbourne based fans during the H&A season, but the Swans have been in Sydney now for 40 years. They’re very much a Sydney team and rightly lean into that as much as possible.

Do you blame us?

Honestly? Yeah in a lot of cases I think its pretty unwarranted.

I’m not saying the AFL don’t make mistakes, far from it, but I think in general they are consistent and predictable in their mistakes.

Take the “big 4” rules for example. We all know its ridiculous, but we also all know exactly what is going to happen - Collingwood will wear a clash when the away team, and Richmond/Essendon wear clashes against each other, but all others will be home jumpers. It happens like clockwork. Its actually the fact that those stupid things do happen, while a matchup like Geelong/Sydney is always correct, that always gave me confidence that the GF matchup would be exactly how it has been between these two teams for 25 years. Seriously, I looked it up. Outside of a one-off Indigenous round matchup, Geelong and Sydney have worn home shorts against each other in every match since 1997.

Even something like the GF policy for uniforms. People like to say "the AFL just make it up as they go along", but really thats not the case. They have changed the rules once or twice, but they don't flip-flop. They've stuck to the policy that they put in place all along. There has been the odd occasion where they haven't actually formally announced a change in policy - such as changing from the GF being PF1 v PF2 to having the highest place finisher being named first - but thats probably because outside a niche audience like us on here, most people really couldn't give a rats tossbag about those sorts of things.
