Hi just wondering about registering for gf tickets.. I've never been to a grand final before so I was just wondering when you register do you get to nominate what category you would like.. I was wondering because on the letter I received it said tickets would be allocated randomly..

Did you get them through afl event office?
If yes what package did you get?

Yes I did. Finals package, back in April. They're all gone now - except for maybe the $4K packages, I haven't looked.

Copped a bit of mild flack from some posters at the time.

The seat is nosebleed but who cares.

You can say seated only. If all seats are taken you then go into priority 2 ballot. Best to put seated or standing to guarantee your spot

Thanks I'm more wondering about the category because of the different prices.. I'm travelling over from Adelaide and have booked a hotel plus going to the Grampians afterwards.. So I don't want them allocating me cat 1 at $410 each I'm sort of looking at keeping it under $500 for my partner and myself. I thought surely you would be able to choose which category you would like as not everybody can afford $820 for 2 tickets..

You don't get to choose the category of seats. Just if you are happy to stand.

It's just very long, and for someone travelling solo like me, sitting that close to a complete stranger for that length of time is uncomfortable.

If you were going on the bus with a friend or family member, I think it would be much better.

The last time I went (few years back), we left at Saturday 10pm from Adelaide, arrived at the MCG 12pm Sunday, match was at 4.40, straight back on the bus after the game and then back in Adelaide 5.30am Monday morning.

Just go to the doctor, tell them that you've got a long international flight for work and that you're shit-scared of flying. I can guarantee a very comfortable experience.

I would likely have to do the same thing (e.g leave Friday and return Saturday night). If you want a cheaper and comfier ride, perhaps we could car pull? My car is economic and comfy and goes well on a drive to Melbourne. Last time I drove to Melbourne and back I did it in less than two tanks of fuel (roughly $150 in total).

I was sort of considering trying to find three other Crows supporters to car pull with. Much comfier than a bus. :)

I've met plenty of people from Bigfooty before - I can get them to confirm I'm not a serial killer. :D

Edit: The offer is open to you too, Rotayjay

A car pull is a great way to get the next driver to nod off in preparation for their turn to drive. Good thinking.

The Afl has now effectively taken away any advantage in finishing top 2 due to the bye. It could be argued it's now a disadvantage. Take us as an example. Week 1 v gws. I actually think losing it means that we would have a better chance of winning the flag. We would then play port the following week here and we know how that will play out. Then we will play tigers or cats at the mcg. We keep the continuity of playing prior to the prelim and get an extra game on the mcg. Clarko was right, the Afl have ****** with the integrity of the game. Why you would mess with the finals series without any consultation from the key stakeholders is unconscionable. Finishing 5th and 6th will be the new 1st and 2nd. How teams potentially losing games so as to finish 5th and 6th if this ridiculous bye stays cannot be impacting the integrity of the game is the real question gillon mclachlan. His argument is that then we can put the awards season in this week and exhibition matches. Weak excuse gillon, that could be done in grand final week and the all australian team could be named on a monday night after round 23. The bye needs to go and if there is a need for a bye it must be before the grand final. A bye before the gf would put the worthy spotlight on the two best teams and the build up would be intense and add to the drama of the event. Make it a twighlight start whilst your at it.

this is off a sample size of 1 event. bit early. i too think the bye should go, the integrity issue is garbage, but just because the dogs won it last year doesn't mean that 7th-8th is the new 1st-2nd.

Yeah was on a rant about the afl but i feel they brought the bye in to try and manufacture what happened with the bulldogs last year. That i dont agree with one bit. The bulldogs were not the best team last year as has been proven this year but the history books will show different which is a joke. Gws were screwed in the prelim by the afl (umpires) againgst a team that should have been knocked out first week of the finals without the bye. And Sydney for that matter was screwed in the gf by the afl(umpires). Last year was the biggest heist of a flag seen in recent memory. In my eyes they still havent won a flag for 60 odd years.

maybe if the afl want to keep the week off they need to restructure the finals series so there isn't another week off but the advantage of finishing higher is an easier run.

Maybe 1v8, 2v7, 3v6, 4v5 with lowest 2 losers being eliminated.
Then again highest ranked remaining team plays lowest ranked remaining (theoretically 1v6, 2v5, 3v4).
Then same again (1v4, 2v3) in prelim.
I don't like it but it means all teams go into the finals fresh but it is much easier for the top 2 to make the prelims (then its the same chance as any other system from there). Theres actually 1 extra final in total so better for TV deals.

One issue the AFL wouldn't like here is the seemingly 1 sided games it creates. As much as the current system is designed to reward top 2/4 sides, its also designed to have match ups that are as even as possible to increase hype. This is one reason the AFL likes the bye as it evens it up even more. Not sure how you can achieve both properly

Yep i totally understand what the afl is doing which is trying to maximise revenue, i just want the best team winning. In time we will probably go to the two conference american model. In my eyes the seaon is too long. I would prefer a 17 match regular season with an extended finals series. The end result will be a better competition with less injuries and better ratings. Also there should be a real financial incentive for the winning team. 500k per premiership player would be fair compensation for their efforts.

Can't you just stay an extra night and take the train or another bus back.
Dad doesn't want to go by bus (has a bit of a bad back). Plus my daughter is having a sleepover birthday party on the Sunday afternoon/night. So I need to get back to Adelaide early on Sunday to help get stuff ready.

So if we make it we'll be driving there Friday afternoon, then either drive back Saturday night, or leave super early Sunday morning.

It is legal to sell your tickets at face value. It won't be hard to find someone on here with crap seats willing to swap tickets and pay you the difference.

If Adelaide make it and anyone wants to sell tickets I'd be more than happy to scoop them up, happy to pay a bit more or perhaps a donation to a charity of the persons choice on top if someone doesn't want to sell for profit as such.
