Much like our pieces on trading, being able to find the hidden gems in a VFL/AFL Draft can reap huge rewards for shrewd recruitment teams. Below, we list your clubs best five draft selections from the 3rd Round and beyond as that is where clubs can find gold! The list below doesn’t include rookies or father-son selections and given the Gold Coast Suns and GWS Giants are very new into the AFL, with their many concessions, there aren’t too many selections beyond the 3rd Round that these clubs have had, hence the list excludes those teams.

Check out some of the absolute bargains below!...

Nick Larkey (pick 73) bobbed up again and kicked 7 in a VFL practice match v Coburg yesterday and continues to impress everyone that watches him play. Excellent mark and kick and has serious football smarts.

Missed a couple...

Dean Kemp was a post-draft pick (effectively Pick 117) in 1989, was a Norm Smith medalist, played 243 games and won 2 Premierships.

Ashley McIntosh went pick 112 and played in 2 Premierships over 242 games.

Kicked another 4 vs Collingwood yesterday. Should have kicked 7 again, going by reports.

Yep, he looks better than pretty much every other developing young tall forward in the VFL at the moment, including when Boyd, Schache, McKay, Weiderman, McCartin have all played this year.

The thing is, he probably has the most scope for improvement with his body out of that list, he's the skinniest of all of them. He's put on a decent amount of muscle in the last 12 months though. He's athletic, good at ground level, a great contested mark and a very good kick for goal.

Leading the VFL goal kicking at 19.

An excellent overhead one grab mark, a text book goal kicking technique and genuine natural football smarts, and he's already getting two outed at 19 years of age.

Just positions himself in the right spots all the time. I'm very excited about this kid.

If he’s that good and can’t get a game, maybe he will look elsewhere.

The North footy dept. aren't that silly. We have him stitched up until the end of next year, and it wouldn't surprise me if we tack on another year before this season is over. He's going nowhere.

The kid is still too light for AFL (93kgs), he has a level head and knows it himself, and with Brown & Waite going real well there just isn't a spot at the moment. He is Waite's heir in waiting..

Another two pre-seasons and look out.
