Does anyone else find this incredibly strange?

Surely he lives and breathes the game. Why would he walk away when they are a chance to win the flag?

Port are obviously giving him the boot and trying to cover it up.
That's one theory or the is another hinted in your post.

Kane know's they are no chance as they just lost to West Coke. Therefore, no finals, no flag.

It's all rumour at this point, he's already been quoted in the media today saying he hasn't decided when he's finishing yet.

He's provided 15 years of service and almost 300 games, he deserves to go out on his own terms. It'll suck to lose him because he's still a great player, but it's not like he's quitting to take up some cushy job somewhere, it takes a fair bit of dedication and passion to join the MFS. Apparently there are intakes in June and September (3 weeks before the GF) this year, and then there might not be one for 3-4 years. If he wants to go he's better off leaving sooner than waiting till September and trying to walk away from a finals series.

yeah as someone who applied a few years ago, they get some 3-4000 applicants, often for only 20 or 30 positions. its a pretty hard place to get into.

I like a good troll, but this one is losing me. 300 game player to retire and become a firefighter, sounds like a pretty constructive way to go out and then contribute to the community.

I'm sure there's an angle about selfishly playing on just so he can get 300 games, meanwhile stalling another players development.

And yes I'm aware about the obvious response to a North supporter, but that's why I reckon a Crows supporter should go with it.
