What's everyone thoughts on using our first pick on Jay kennedy-harris? Yes it does seem stupid as there will be a lot better option around at our pick but we do need a very good small forward and he seems to be as good as andy krakour, so it would be drafting for a need rather than best available player. Wouldn't even suggest it if we had a pick in the late 20's early 30's but we don't. Very unlikely to happen though.

Never ever pick for needs with your first pick. Otherwise you end up with Lucas Cook, Jordan Gysberts, Bootsma, Watson, Tom Lynch ect...

I wouldn't call Lucas cook recruiting for a need because he was predicted to go in the top 20, it may not of turned out that he was best available at the pick like tambling but he was at the time.

He was predicted to go between 15-30 and most likely would have made it to their 2nd round pick. It was a recruitment for need as at the time a big power forward was what was considered to be what the Dees were missing.

Forward pockets can be found much deeper into the draft no point over paying for one when you could get Acres, Dunstan, Dumont, Salem, Lennon or Crouch who will give you another very good midfielder and allow cotchin, martin, conca, ellis or Vlastuin more time forward.

He was never going to make it to pick 33, he was rated highly by many clubs. You'd be lucky if he even made it into the 20's. I do agree that it is a better option to take a very good midfielder, it was just an idea as it not everyday a very good small forward comes around who has leadership skills as he is the co-captain of vic metro.

If we want a small forward at 12 (which I'm 100% sure we don't) then Lewis Taylor is 10 times the player Kennedy-Harris is.

Just had a look at Dunstan's video on the top 30 and am a fan. Only get a snippet but I think he looks and sounds like a jet. I cannot believe that people would have Matt Crouch ahead of him. Need to remember he is coming off an offseason where he had both hips done and didn't start training until Feb I think. Get him into an AFL environment and he should become a rack em up bull of a mid. Read some criticism somewhere that his kicks lack penetration and can be a bit loopy. Highlights (and i know they are only highlights) absolutely show the opposite. Looks to be able to kick it long and flat. Beautiful long handball skills too. Has been compared to Sam Mitchell and Scott Thomposon. Potentially a great foil for Cotch. Not saying he is my number 1 preference but gee if he is the one we take I will still be excited.

Would not in anyway be disappointed if we picked Dunstan, he is Vlastuin MkII.

Just read somewhere he had no preseason either after having surgery on both hips

I could be wrong but just my thoughts and opinions in regards to drafting

Senior list should be used to recruit the best talent available at your pick and if there are 2 players ranked equal and 1 fits a need then select the need player
(pretty sure most would think yeah sure what els is new)

The rookie list should only be used to select project players and always take your full quota
The type of players that im referring to is players that are x factor types , small fowards , ruckman

Yes we won't take a small forward, was just an idea which won't happen and i Was talking pure small forward who can go up the ground occasionally not a player who spend most his time in the middle and occasionally goes forward or back.

Surgery on both hips doesn't sound too good for an 18 year old. Was it a minor surgery and is there a chance that it could affect him throughout his career?

Honestly not sure of the details just read it on the drafts board. But i'm pretty sure Cotchin and Jack have both had surgery on both hips. It was probably a clean up type op.

Wouldn't even rookie. Would break something at pick 12 :p

Yes to everything but Salem :p I want him :hearts: ;)
I've just always seen Dunstan to be another Vlastuin.

And when I think about Vlastuin, I think about his final this year. Yes he ran out of steam but at the start of the game when everyone was fresh and raring to go, who stood out? An 18 year old, first year player in Vlastuin with his cool head and composure.

If we can have another one of those, I'd be ecstatic! He is a captain, leader, tough as nails and skillful. Would love to have his name read out!

*Note: Would not be disappointed with Salem either haha

he wasn't alone in fading in the 2nd half, it was basically the whole team but when things were going well he was definately one of the most impressive

I don't know why but I really want Dunstan over Salem. I haven't seen much of Salem but he just doesn't appeal to me, I have no idea why. I bet he will be a great player though, I trust the tigers will make the right choice.
