The Hawks 'host' the Tigers in the first preliminary final at North Port Oval (now known as Fortburn Oval) from 2.40pm on Saturday. The match promises to be a beauty, with the Tigers potentially featuring up to 19 AFL-listed players in their 22, who are all looking to impress Hardwick and the Tigers' selection committee for a spot in the Tigers' AFL preliminary final team.
During the home & away season, the two teams faced each other only once, back in round 5 at Box Hill City Oval. That afternoon, the Hawks proved to be too good for the Tigers, winning by 20 points (18.8.116 to 13.16.94), with the Hawks sharing the load between Andrew Moore, Ryan Schoenmakers, Mitchell Lewis, Ollie Hanrahan and Tyrone Vickery each kicking two goals, while Harry Morrison, James Sicily, Will Hams, Nelson Lane, Anthony Brolic, Dallas Willsmore, Sam Switkowski and Kade Stewart each kicking a goal.
For the Tigers, Bathie and Lloyd each kicked three, while Moore, Bolton, Stengle, Ballard, Menadue, Chol and Miles each kicked a goal.
After a fast start from the Hawks in the first quarter, the Tigers pegged them back and took a two point lead into quarter time. The Tigers extended that lead to three goals by half-time, but the Hawks kicked the last six goals of the third quarter to go from 29 points down when Moore kicked a goal for the Tigers at the six minute mark of the third quarter to four points in front at three-quarter time. The Hawks secured victory by kicking six goals to three in the final quarter.
The Hawks will appreciate a big crowd turning up to support them when they do battle with the Tigers, but if you're not able to attend, the match will be live televised into Victoria by Channel 7 from 2.00pm. As usual, 3WBC 94.1FM will provide radio commentary, in addition to SEN 1116. The Hawks will provide regular score updates via twitter on www.twitter.com/boxhillhawks
Please note that your Hawthorn and Box Hill memberships will not gain you entry into the ground. Tickets for adults are $15 each, concession card holders and pensioners will pay $10 and children under the age of 15 are free.
The winner of the game will take on the winner of the other preliminary final featuring Williamstown and Port Melbourne for a chance at VFL premiership glory.
