These players fit the breakout model...

I was hoping to allow stillGOTmyBEANIE (who cannot yet create threads) the opportunity to post some of his thoughts of this topic.

I doubt he'll be a newbie for long if he is that keen to share his knowledge :thumbsu:

Thanks Kildonan,

Every year there is always talk about "break out" years for players. There are many different theories but there seems to be some similar points.

1. First round draft pick

2. Has been in the AFL system for between 3-6 years.

There always seems to be a smokey that does not get talked about so I have created a list of all 1st round draft picks from 2002-2005 that are still playing this year. A few names may be of interest or just a reminder that these guys were once a first round draft pick.

I will post the list and would welcome any discussion about potential "break outs" this season that we may have missed.

N.Smith jumps at me alot. He did well in the first NAB round 1. Also in a side starting to breed some new kids and hes been around for a while now, so it might be his last chance. What a sydneys view on his best 22 positons??

Quick analysis of price distributions for each year:

Year_____300k+_____350k+_____400k+

2002______9_________6_________2
2003______8_________5_________2
2004______8_________5_________2
2005______6_________2_________1

So, looks as though 2-3 more of the first round 2005 draftees need to enter the 300k+ and 350k+ price bracket in 2009.

My tips would be out of drum, higgins and douglas to move up to 300k+ and ellis, thomas and maybe jones to move up to 350k+

Will tenace get games. Priced at around an average of 50, and IIRC he averaged 64 through 9 games in 2007? Some value there?

I looked at him, he is a perfect fit but how will this guy get a game in the geelong midfield?

Only 10 games in the last 2years and only 1 last year. According to the prospectus he is a big possesion getter in the VFL.

Any chance of him getting a game?

No idea really, Thompson seems to want him to play and his been fairly good in the nab matches, nothing spectacular though and a few clangers :D.

Thanks to Chad for making this more user friendly.

npz, took a bloody long time lots of control c and v.

I guess Meesen and Meyer stick out a little bit to me, but they are questionable to get into 22. Dowler is an interesting one too. Hawks have alot of injures, but all will be up and about around about round 1. Even if he gets a game round 1, can he hold it for the firt 6-7 weeks?

Those which grab my attention, wouldnt mind thoughts on them:
Schammer:Showed a little potential, massive low point, plays for freo i think he needs a good team
Pendlebury
Stanton Brennan

brennan will have a bigger work load, hopefully schammer is freed up a little more with the return of hasebly. pendlebury and stanton i think are both working towards being their club's top midfielder, so should show signs of improvement this year, and be able to handle the tag a little better.
