It didn't make a recommendation to sack anyone. Thats not what reviews do. The board decides those outcomes. So your beginning understanding of reviews is wrong already. No tin hat or delusion here.
The club said the "review" was into the footy department and it made no recommendation to sack Liddle. Indeed, Liddle had to go to Sayers to find out why he was talking to Cook.
Despite this, Sayers justifies Liddle's sacking by stating in an email to members that the entire club is under review. That's where the media gets it from - Sayers' own communications. I'd like to ask who is doing that review? Him? He's changed the goal posts to meet his narrative.
Just for the record, I'm pleased Liddle is gone but nothing about this deserves to go unquestioned.
Next if you find a department to be a complete mess. You remove the person who is responsible. Simple. It's not going without question, but it's not convenient and not a goal post change.
Liddle going to talk to Sayers about cook is a media narrative. Sayers was setting up a situation where Liddle could go with reputation in tact as he finds a new role somewhere else. Instead the fool was leaking everything he could and his ego got the better of him. Made his own position untennable and hurt his own reputation even more, and yes some of that is based off behind the scenes info I've heard.
