Footy Buskers

Yeah I got suckered into giving that woman some money over the last couple of weeks as she was sporting North colours (a flag hanging out of the pipes) when we played non Vic teams. But this week when we were against StKilda she revealed her true colours... literally. Not only was the North flag replaced by a Saints version, she was also wearing a StKilda jumper. I feel like a middle aged bloke supporting a young mistress financially, who suddenly realises she's actually a prostitute.

Oh well, good luck to her I suppose.

I saw her at the Geelong Melbourne game and heard some Dees fans complain about her wearing Geelong colours. She said sorry but she got more money if she wore the colours of the winners (that was before the game). Girl's gotta make a living.

Bit the like the sax guys only (or just mainly?) play the winner's song after the game.

Hi all, I am one of the Footy Buskers, Dave, the tall Sax playing busker.
We have a permit and have been playing at the footy as you probably all know for several years now without incident! As we have a permit we are subject to Melbourne City Council orders.
Collins and Etihad have jumped on that and are pressuring the Melbourne City Council and the Police to remove us as they cant cos its not their property!
Please check out the article in Sundays herald-sun pg 10 for more info.

Basically Etihad is saying that we cause a public safety risk and are telling the council that we have to be moved in the interests of public safety, yet in the seventh year of our playing on the bridge we have never harmed anyone (save the odd Essendon fans ego cos they are all so tight!!!) and it is interesting to note that Melbourne City Council has received complaints (which they must act on, there's a bit of inside info, complain to the council about Etihad and they MUST act!) from Etihad Management but not ONE from a member of the public concerning us!!
No-one has ever been injured, we have never been sued for personal injury, and from what we read and hear from the general public no-one (except essendon fans) has a problem with us being there, in fact most people say that we add to the football experience!

Please, check out savethebuskers.com and send a message to the council and tell them to leave us alone! We just want to play and put a smile on peoples faces (except essendon fans) and we are being bullied, harrased, victimised and in all other ways hassled and singled out by Etihad management!
The classical gas guitarist, Robert, the bagpipe girl, Lauren, the other two kids on the other side occasionaly, the record sellers, the merchandise tents, the raffle ticket sellers, the salvo's, the other tin-rattlers, the Nando's chicken, the sportsbet girls, the numerous other goings on that cause as much if not more of a disturbance than us DO NOT and HAVE NOT been hassled or approached AT ALL!!

We have had problems before but, like Andrew Symonds, this may be the last straw unless we can get the fans, you, on our side in a show of strength and support for the little guy, us!

We don't want your money, instead smile and sing your song as you go past and send a message to the council or Etihad telling them to leave us alone as we do not pose a problem! We just wanna play, entertain and help people have a great enjoyable experience at the Footy! This can only continue with your help!!

Etihad is trying its hardest to get rid of us!! We are fully expecting to be fined $1500 each and/or arrested on Friday night after the game and we say BRING IT ON!!!

Please, visit savethebuskers.com and keep your team song playing (except essendon, you can all go jump!)!

See you at the Footy for a long time yet hopefully!
Dave.

I imagine that Collo's policy is borrowed from Lloyd Williams at Crown... can't have buskers playing on the promenade outside the casino as every coin in every pocket has to end up in the pokies. Likewise Collo expects us to pool all our coins and buying ridiculously expensive food.

I don't get how they can have you arrested if you have the permits. I love all that stuff above - just makes the whole atmosphere!

I don't understand Etihad's stand - it can't be a public safety concern, that's just ridiculous.

It is a public safety stand, I have the paperwork to prove it!! And your right, it is ridiculous!!

You want support, so you choose to alienate the biggest drawing club at the ground?

The fact is that Essendon are the tightest, scroogiest, most self-obsessed fans in the competition, have a look next time at the number of Essendon fans that don't turn up at an away game cos they have to pay to get in!!We have seen it and proven it many times and have taken the stand that Essendon is not worth playing for so we don't and you'll never hear your song out of us!! Check the bomberblitz forum archives, biggest fan base or not, you don't wanna hear your song and you're all tight!! We would have a far better night with a losing Fremantle team in Melbourne, and I'm not talking money, I'm talking crowd enthusiasm and team spirit, than if Essendon won by 100 goals over Geelong!!

All negative comments by Essendon supporters, surprise surprise!!
Send your comments of support of Etihad through to them, it just makes you no better than Collo, but then I wouldn't want to offend Collo by comparing him with Essendon fans!!
We'll be there against Melbourne on the 19/6 in full Demons gear belting out a decent tune that their fans will appreciate!

Probably right!

We're like Michael Corleone. We make people disappear.

Not doin very well, we havent played essendon for about 3-4 years now and we'll still be there this friday and especially looking forward to the 19/6, Demons due for another win!! Its all been said before, essendon = big talkers, no action, same as on the field!

I don't think anybody really gives a stuff.
No, you don't improve the football experience.
People go to the football to watch football.
You say you don't want our money and only want to put a smile on our faces, yet you dislike Essendon supporters and would prefer them to "jump" because they're "tight".
At Essendon home games, do you not play their song?
And if not, why not?

How much do you blokes get on a decent night out of curiosity?

The 'doing it for the football atmosphere' charade is cute and all, but Nines is ultimately right, you blokes do it for the coin. Not to say that is a bad thing, well done for going to the effort, but the sympathy card doesn't really apply.

Good. Get rid of them. Finally the Dome are being useful and getting rid of these worthless duds that pretend that they are their to further the experience when their only real motive is to get money from footy fans. Will be a cold day in hell that Bomber fans will give coin to these muppets with the way they treat our fans. Perhaps if they weren't such fools about it we'd open up our wallets.

Good work Collins:thumbsu:

His name's Lord Melbury.

I wondered if someone would pick up on this!

"Hello, Lord Melbury! ...BASTARD!!" :D

As to the RR post just above me, no doubt he might be happy when the atmosphere at an AFL match is reduced to a point where it becomes so flat and devoid of life that there's almost no difference between that & being in a movie, but I for one would NOT.

This kind of "atmosphere Gestapo" crap is ludicrous and a blight on sport in this country. What's happening with these buskers is only part of a much greater disaster.

"If you're good at something, never do it for free," the Joker. Besides everyone on this world is out there to make money or spend money. It's what makes the world go round.

The buskers( the 2 guys together) are good. The old man with his guitar has to go playing the same boring song over and over again . As for the new bagpipes lady she is a try hard and is shocking at best.

Bagpipes lady go find something better to do as you cant do this right

The buskers don't do any harm, the smokers have been moved out, now could they just do something about the dicks that play kick to kick during the breaks. FFS its a walkway and a place to eat food.....now that is a real safety hazard and they do zilch about it.

Exactly.

I never have and never will give them any of my hard earned. They are arrogant fwits who actually arent that good at all.

After every game, I deposit my left over beer coin into the Salvo's money tin outside.

Stop begging for money and get a real job.

Standing in public with an open case (the equivalent of begging with your hands outstretched) in order to get people to part with some coins weighing them down.... do you actually have any self-respect?

If you like playing instruments so much join a band or an orchestra, oh wait, you might actually need some talent for that.

Is it just me, or do all the naysayers on this topic appear to be Essendon fans...

It's just baffling that they've decided to piss off and alienate the biggest group of fans at the stadium. Surely if they want the fans support they'd try and get us behind them.

I think every one is missing the point .

And the point is This Stadium has been standing over the footy fan since day dot

Dave has said the wrong thing by getting on the wrong side of the Bombers , so he hasn't done his cause any good ?????????/:confused:

But you know , it all comes down to RESPECT , respect the opposition, respect your teammates and above all respect the game of Australian Football . Respect your Mum , Respect your Dad , for cryin out loud just respect .

When everything is done and dusted , it is all about the $ and that is the only thing the stadium respects .

The whole thing is , get a better deal for the footy fan , a better deal for the clubs , a better deal for the public , a better deal for the footy fan .
