Well it’s been a nice little escape for a couple of months. I’d just about forgotten how bad we were v Sydney.

All flooding back now. Showdown will be very ugly.

We want to lose, right? I would have thought games like Sydney would be ideal - bursts of good football, it falls away, close loss at the end.

This board is going to be insanely toxic once we actually have the shit year everyone is looking for.

Bitterly disappointed with his PS and efforts generally since looking good in a few games last year.

2020 was his time to push ahead and take ownership of the 2nd big man role.

That he allowed a deadset spud to get inside him and beat him to a R1 spot is an indictment on his preparation and desire.

Showing very worrying signs of going down the Gallucci path of flushing talent down the toilet because it too hard.

Thing is we aren't even close to bottoming out. Guys like Tex, Talia, Sloane etc all to retire and untried rookies to replace them who will give inconsistent performances. This place is going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

Actually I was just listening to a Phil Bunn interview again from a couple of year's ago where he said as a recruiter it's imperative you get your 1st round pick right or you won't last very long in the job.

Too early to judge Fischer, Chayce and Neddy especially given this Covid-19 season. Fog I'm confident is going to live up to his pick but the Gallucci pick is looking wobbly. Milera hasn't quite lived up to the early hype but the talent is certainly there, Doedee was an exceptional pick. Leaver enough said, talent yes, character no.

I think Josh Worrell is 1st round talent for sure as well if he reaches his full potential, honestly believe he should have gone higher....

My real worry with both McAsey and Worrell though is will they be in it for the long haul with Adelaide as their base.

Sure add him. Prob should also add Will Hamill too from 2018.

Yep the go home factor looms large as usual but that still rests with Hamish to a degree IMO. Recruiting has to be able to assess that stuff, particularly when top SA talent is still on the table I.e Stephens.

Actually in that Phil Bunn interview he also mentioned they honestly assessed Leaver as a safe bet re go home factor. Like Dangerfield though I'm pretty sure they don't get to interview the girlfriends or their girlfriend's families which I firmly believe fed into both players decision to leave.

Only 2 top 10 picks, and a lot of late 1sts and seconds. Not what I'd call 'good hands' beyond 2018 and 2019

I agree - money is a big one to me. We seem to have a socialist approach to salary cap, meaning we lose the top end and keep the bottom end too long.

It doesn't need to change too far, but the top end of town who win games deserve top end rates. Your 'contributors (Atkins, DMac, Kelly, Knight, Greenwood types shouldn't eat too much cap space. Hence, the off season where we left a lot of these guys go (Greenwood, CEY, Keath) was good for our list and gave flexibility for the future.

Yet I believe in Dangerfield's case nether were a factor, more down to his partner and her family and also in Leaver's case I'm pretty sure his "older" partner's desire to start a family and thus be closer to family also fed into the decision as well as the money and the family friend boofheaded Brian Taylor.

Charlie Cameron is the one I can't quite figure though I think Mitch Robinson and his partner had quite a bit to do with that.....that's the one that hurts most.

I think you’re underselling their 2018 draft. All 3 playing good AFL football in their 1st year. All 3 players played R1 and all played ok.

Marshall is a key forward who also played R1 and is coming on ok. SPP as much as you want to mock him is still a fixture in their side and played well R1.

Georgiadis had 11 and 2 goals on debut.

I think on balance they’re well in front, if for no other reason they smashed the 2018 draft out of the park. They, like us, are a young developing side so R2 will be interesting. I think they’ll pulverise us

You're never going to keep 100% of your players. Even the good clubs lose some

The stuff we can control though we need to get that out of the equation

Rightly or wrongly Lever thought he was harshly left out of the 2015 finals series plus made to come back via the reserves from a minor hamstring injury after proving himself as best 22 a season or two later. Then was low-balled in his 2017 contract negotiation. You add those 'slights' to whatever influence his partner had and the reasons to stay start getting thin.

I don't think Robinson had that much to do with it, although he was Brisbane's go-to guy get into Charlie's ear. I think the main issues were $$$ and the fact that as long as Betts' played he would always be the no2 small forward at the crows.

What hurts is that I think he was retainable. Throw him some more cash, a longer term deal and give him the limelight for once.

He may not ever come on but I think he was absolutely worth a crack. 2m talls are always speculative but at that pick it was worth a crack. I'm far more critical of the other picks we made in the draft.
