Could any Sydney Swans supporters with the word "blood" or "bleed" in their name who registered after the GF please see to changing it. Obviously you like to wear your heart on your sleeve, but it's really shallow seeing an old moniker used to appease the old Souths fans used in this way. It's of little relevance to most of you. You weren't part of that era. It must sicken the true South Melbourne supporters.

Always funny when supporters of the recent startups West Coast, Adelaide and Fremantle try to deny that a traditional club has history. Get over the insecurity mate.

Seriously, that's like saying if you migrated to Australia now, you couldn't talk about pre-1901.

Okay, well it's a bit like that...

The Swans Supporters in Melbourne have every right to relate to their team as such. Their Club was uprooted and taken away from them.

They have EVERY right to call them the Bloods.

They have a TRUE history, unlike another Club who claims the same.

I'm starting to think Crows have the football supporters equivalent of penis envy - History Envy!!! :D

I've got a feeling you've misunderstood me. Sydney are entitled to feel connected to their history. West Coast, Adelaide and Freo are new startups. Their history commences from the year they started.

I agree Skip, I enjoy watching the Bloods play, squeezing the life out of nearly every Club (except mine) with their neck-choke play.

GO THE BLOODS!!!

Be proud of your history, it goes a long way back big fella!

Translation:

Waaaaaaaaaa, Mummy, that mean boy stole my premiership.

Actually, what I thought he was saying is it must ******** off old South supporters, who have used the moniker bloods for eons, that a bunch of Sydneysiders start using the phrase when they win the GF.

If they thought of them as the bloods, why not use the phrase before they won the GF? Its just jumping on the band wagon.

Now personally, I kind of like the idea of an old tradition being reimbraced by a new generation. But everyone's entitled to an oppinion, and perhaps people with different ones could disagree with a bit more politeness.

I would be lying if I claimed there was no bitterness on either side. There's still a handful of dyed in the wool South fans who want them to come back to Victoria, and there are some Sydney based fans who resent our history.

I'm glad to say, though, that both groups are a tiny minority in the two cities. Most South fans just want the team to survive and prosper, and bear no ill-will towards the Sydney people. Similarly, most Sydney-based fans appreciated what the win meant to the people that had kept the faith through decades of heartbreak.

Two cities
One team
Together
Living the dream

... that's the most perfect GF banner I've seen.

Been going to the footy for a few years now - The 'bloods' has been around along time here in Sydney. The old man always used it, especially in reference to Paul Kelly.

Spose u r an expert on footy culture in Sydney?
