Forget Buddy and Cyril ...

Hey Chewy do you agree that Cyril is the best player in the competion?

I was talking about this with a couple of mates today and they agree he is top ten but not the best yet ...

What am I missing? There is not a single player in the AFL that can do what he does and not a single player in the competition that can beat him one on one? For me he is the best.
Yeah, people used to think the stars and sun revolved around planet Earth. Smarter enlightened people tried to make them see the truth, but the ignorant masses wouldn't listen. Eventually they came to see the error of their ways and nowadays it seems so blindingly obvious. How could everyone have been so foolish?

Moral of the story: Cyril is the sun; Daisy is Pluto

Groan....pass the tissues over to him will ya?

Time to unsubscribe to what has become yet another Squark circle jerk over Cyril....

Delicioussssssssssssssssssssssssss

So true Chewy, so true...

It was an 18 year old Cyril that made 21 of his team mates BELIEVE on Grand Final day 2008 we could win it. I will never forget his effort on the wing to beat 3 Geelong players, and the subsequent 5 goals the Hawks banged on in the minutes afterwards.

Btw I might need your help during GF week this year ...

This was an epically inspiring passage of play for Hawthorn supporters. It's hard not to love him knowing what he did in that context which I feel changed the course of the match and ultimately led to us winning the 2008 grand final.

He is undoubtedly more of a burst player that will turn on and off throughout the course of a game than a player that is involved at every contest. I've heard many many commentators/pundits say that a Junior Boy possession is with twice that of a normal possession because of how he wins the ball and what he does with it when he does. This applies, not just in the context of the immediate play, but in terms of shifting momentum and in doing so deflating the opposition. His critics here choose to criticise him on the grounds that he "goes missing" and ignore his impact when he does involve himself.

Clutching at straws for mine.

Sizzle Rioli is one of the most speacial players I have seen at the Hawks since the early 80's. His reading of the play is brilliant and once he makes a call on what he does next whether in attack or defending he just never holds back. People talk about his possession count blah blah blah but there is no other player running around that creates as much perceived pressure and how do you measure this as a stat. Since day 1 his team mates love his presence and he automatically makes them walk around with more confidence. People who have not been in a team environment much just would'nt understand.

I hope that GWS rate Rioli like many of the Carlton and Cats supporters and back in the school days when picking sides in the play ground Rioli would be one of the first picked way before blokes like Eddie Betts, Stokes, Garland or Varcoe.

Varcoe actually goes alright but the thought of Eddie Betts chasing and applying the sort of pressure that Rioli can do is hilarious.

Many casual footy fans are only interested in Dreamteam etc. so stats are the only thing that matters. They saw Rhys Palmer's debut year as fantastic, and he even won the Rising Star ahead of Cyril. But I would guarantee that any AFL coach would rather have Cyril in his team. Stats are not the only thing that matters.

Anyway, I am quite happy for opposition fans to underestimate him and us. We are top 3, if either of the teams above us have a hiccup we will be there to challenge.

Just read this from Mark Robinson on the HS site:

10. Cyril

Ever want to see a miniature ''Buddy'' then go to YouTube and look at highlights of yesterday's game. Can anyone remember a player who could do so much with so few possessions?

Love or hate Robbo, he has no allegiance to Hawthorn and nothing to gain by inventing accolades for Rioli.
