Is he the same age or a year older?
I think he might be 6 months younger.
So the question really is; do we want a coach who’s ageing backwards at half speed?

We still missing 90% of the forward line? The exact same as the last 15
Ie 2023 not 2022. Everthing else is same
Cant read?We still missing 90% of the forward line?
Ive asked you the same simple question twice. You refuse to answer it. You then asked if i said to extend Ruttens contract now. I asked you where i had stated that. You refused to answer that too. Im not sure where you got the idea from that i said Rutten should be extended. Honestly, you are all over the shop. Probably need to take a breather.Answer the simple question then. Or keep walking around it
It has a ? For a reason
Things need to have improved in 12 months time for him to be extended
Great post AntThere is one thing that no one can dispute here. When Truck had his first interview he say the club needs to get back to its roots. He said the club needs to become a blue collar club again and earn some respect. He is 100% on the money with this. It is indisputable.
Problem for Truck is our playing group is not blue collar. It is not physical and we lack hard edge and leadership depth.
This has been a factor for a long time. We played nice attacking footy under Knights for two years but once defense was put in the game plan we fell over. Bomber identified we need to be harder to play against hence we bulked up players and got some improvement but he still said after the loss to North in the 2014 elimination final we needed to be better defensively.
Obviously 2015 was a saga wipeout as was 2016.
2017 we played some attacking footy but the same story. Smashed in finals. Next coach says we need to play better team defense.
2018. Poor start due to more defensive plan.
And now it goes on.
You can also look at our captains. Lloyd was at the end and pretty much fighting a battle with the coach. I know several young players from that era never got a conversation with the captain.
Jobe was a great player. A great leader on the field. Never flinched. Always attacked the footy but he was a nice guy. Not the type of captain who would run through a bloke to make a point or really let loose on the playing group. Same with Heppell. Pretty much the same character.
Who where the leadership group ? another bunch of nice blokes.
In all honesty how long is it since we have had more than just a handful of best 22 players who where willing to play a real physical game week in and week out. Not talking about attacking the footy but more than 2 or 3 who would make a stand for a team mate Barnard or Solomon or Hardwicke or Johnson style ?
Our leaders are average and we do not have players who like the physical contest.
That is what the coach has to deal with. Now he has to back down and dumb down the game plan so our petals can play the footy they like or want to.
I guess we will see what happens at the end of the year. So far the coach has been limited in who he can bring into the side to make a statement. It will be what statement he and the club make list wise that will. If he is true to his word the will dump Shiel . They should make a serious statement with Parish and put his name out there.
This is not a coach issue. It is a club culture issue that needs to be chipped away at. Truck may not be a great coach but his message is 1000000% correct. We need to find our blue collar. To do this we need to keep drafting players like Reid / Perkins / Hobbs / Durham / Martin etc We need to start using our 2nd and 3rd round picks to pick the vanilla Jack Graham types. Supporters need to stop questioning why we grabbed Kelly and understand that while he has his limitations he is a blue collar defender that will not back down and he may be a short term prospect but he sets standards. If we back down as a club and do not do everything to change the culture then we will be a nice club for another 20 years.

One thing I have gotten very very used to with us is what it takes to put in a real hard effort. I get its someone from behind their keyboard, we almost need something to spark us into gear a few very bad perfomances and even then that effort seems a one or two week thing. Rather than being self sustained. Some of that as you said isn't a plan thing but attitude. Even when we put in that super performace there is part of e that just knows it won't be long before the lazy old Essendon returns.I do not disagree with selling the message but do you really honestly think our playing group is able to play blue collar or defend ? Where is the evidence we have even looked like it in the last however many years ?
I know from personal coaching experience that you can not make a player hard edge if it is not in his nature. Just does not happen. If it is just the coach and his message then why is it the players themselves never fly the flag for each other ? Sure we have the odd occasion where we have a bit of a scuffle but in general we are a meek and mild side. Does anyone ever take the initiative ? How many times does Zak Merrett have to be skittled before at some stage a few players actually become pro active and take out someone in the opposition in the same way so sides know who we are.
Why do the players no stand up for each other ? that is not game plan or not getting the defense message . That is all on them.
Wasnt Lord being talked up heavily by some players like Draper in the off season? How much of a say does he have in the draft?
Talk of turning over the list in search of ‘blue collar’ type players is off to an absolutely shocking start with Lord and McDonagh.
From what I've seen of the pair, they do go when it's their turn. McDonagh just sucks, basically DVU except a great kick. How much of a say does he have in the draft?

The Curious Case of Benjamin Rutten...I think he might be 6 months younger.

Manager of coach performance Matt Little has left the club… I’ve never heard of this guy. The Neeld of 2022?

Pathetic performance by Matt Little this season honestly. I’m glad he’s finally faced up to his responsibility for this failed season. Finally we can move forward now.I don't know who Matt Little is, but I've got absolutely no doubt everything going wrong this season is his fault entirely.
Also James Hird’s cousin
Well I guess if players can be excused for being shit because of coaches, then the coaches can be excused for being shit because of their manager of performance. Thankfully we've identified the issue.Player development

Honestly just assumed he left the club when he was replaced. He deserved the promotion FWIW, was fantastic in that role.Further evidence of the disdain we have treated that aspect of the club?
Not being a smartarse just curious...but why do you say that? What did he achieve?Honestly just assumed he left the club when he was replaced. He deserved the promotion FWIW, was fantastic in that role.
He basically ran the entire program, got us top 4 three times right through the saga, and look what has happened since he moved away from it.Not being a smartarse just curious...but why do you say that? What did he achieve?
