I see port Adelaide delisted Riley Bonner after 93 games. Would we delist a fringe player after 93 games like that or try get him to the ton?
we would have done exactly the same in their position, same as every other club.

if he was on 99 games in same situation he still wouldn’t have made 100 if they didn’t believe he was the best option for winning in the here and now

He was free to a new home last year from all reports and no takers

I think he is alright too but he just never seemed to go on with it

Don’t get me wrong - most years there’s someone delisted that makes you go ‘how the **** did that happen’. That or there’s off field issues but you can see the ability is there.

Bonner doesn’t fall into either category but I wouldn’t be surprised to see his name pop up in the SPP or something.

Can’t believe he got delisted but Narkle didn’t tbh. Don’t rate Narkle at all.

You saw what happened when Jackson barely played two games for Fremantle with the pile on?
The West immediately does a back page breakdown.

Imagine seeing that as a player. Hogan would have to put up with that every game. Good on him for leaving to Sydney, where the media doesn’t give a * about AFL. Perfect place.
Lol at blaming the media for a player being a complete idiot.

People make their own decisions, I don’t think anybody is denying Jesse made a lot of bad ones. However, if I had a shit day at work, then came home to read a back page spread about how crap I am, not sure that would really help.

It’s not the media’s job to babysit players but at the same time, pointed personal attacks on one person don’t sit totally right. Lots of people can contribute to a bad performance so it’s kinda unnecessarily cruel to single one bloke out.

You'd be pretty naive to think the media has never impacted the decisions made by the club and/or the welfare of our players

It's a simple test. Is the same behavior at a another club in the same city treated the same way by the media? The answer is no. Again, the photos of Hogan off his head in a back yard were the back yard of an Eagles player who may be their captain next season - no comment from the media on that part of it.

The difference is even more drastic comparing Fremantle to a club in Sydney. It took Shane Mumford hoovering up half a kilo of cocaine in one run on social media to hear anything about it.

The player has the ultimate responsibility but it is not the same world they are operating within.

AFL is bloody hard. Early in his career Connor Blakely looked like he could be anything. We all fondly remember the 'Lamb over Blakely' lols. Then his career suddenly stalled, then it stagnated, and now it's finished.

How does this happen? AFL is bloody hard. You need to be in the top, I dunno, 0.0001% of footy players in the universe to even get a sniff of being on a list. Then even if you do make it, if you're among the bottom 1% of listed players you'll soon get the sack.

There's been many a career "wasted" due to injury, attitude, application or whatever. Those that make it have to be perfect at almost everything.

Good luck in your post AFL career, Connor. I'm disappointed, and actually a bit sad, that you didn't play more games than you did. Maybe it's because I'm a Swan Districts fan and there's a special place in my heart for Swannies players. You looked like being a 200 gamer early on.

The leson here, is that this AFL caper is bloody hard. Oh, and don't go root your mate's ex too soon either. That never helps...

Was I not explicitly saying that? The post I replied to suggested that the media treatment of Hogan didn't affect him, whilst I was trying to point out why it did. Apologies for any confusion.

Crikey didn’t know that, now I despise the iggles’ media shield even more

Tuks is my buddy LFG!

I’m not really upset by it.
I’m just saying it’s unprofessional and wouldn’t happen to pretty much any other club.
We shouldnt be the butt of jokes on the AFL official Twitter account. Of course we will do nothing about it as we are viewed as a pushover by AFL house no doubt
Probably praising Carlton more then putting down Fremantle.

Hopefully he joins his brother at Swans again next season.

Jackson found a clever way out. He started playing well...

I was pretty much backing you up tbh.

I genuinely think Ross Lyon is still our coach in 2020 if the media wasn't pressuring us to sack him every five minutes. Just another example.

Negative press would impact club culture if it's persistent and that eventually impacts all areas of performance.

It's simply part of being the least favoured team by the media in a two team town.

I was really hoping GWS would continue to be shit for a few more years so people would forget Hogan played for us. The fact that we have to do this discourse the same week as Acres discourse is killing me.

Wait what...Conor a slug surfer?
Oh No Reaction GIF

Hogan would never intended for it to turn out like it did with us. As young blokes can tend to do in crisis, he got lost within himself in his time here.

Instructional though is the benefit that he got being paired up with Mumford. Rock bottom often opens people up to taking the steps for change. Bell & co weren't open to that maybe.
