Throwing it out there, what do you think about putting grundy or vogels at full back for a few games to see how they go, as unless we draft a big full back or CHB, defence could be an area for concern in the future.
I think Vogels has a good shot at it. Good height, size and athleticism. I'd like to see Roos bite the bullet and go for it as he did with LRT.

Re: Doyle for FB?:

heres a surprise idea. what about Doyle at FB, big tall, can take a grab, apart from injury, maybe he could slide back and provide us with a competent tall in the backline, esp if he's gonna struggle to get a game over spida and JollY.

Way way too immoblie. Can you imagine him against a Fevola, Lloyd, Pavlich etc?

Dempster an outside chance perhaps, but questionable size and strength one on one. Vogels is the one I'd like to see given a go.

He can kick goals from the 80m. Freaks... hes a thumping long kicker.

For some reason i can see him falling over himself trying to chase one of them on their leads.

Not even.

I can see him running in slow motion.

Re: back line

Is it just me, or do we have some sort of depth going on next year. There are kids in the two's who I believe would be playing footy at most other clubs. You wouldn't want to be a selector I'll give you the tip.

At other club who aren't trying to win a premiership, yes, maybe.

Re: back line

Yeah that's a fair call. If I was in charge of recruiting I would already be off-loading some dead weight (and by dead I mean dead to us) and gaining extra picks so that we stay strong rather than going through a trough in the next 4-8 years. I hope we put ourselves in a position much like Adelaide, where we are still producing kids despite having a top heavy list. I'm probaby simplifying the process though.

You say we have depth, and then you say we have dead wood. Please be more specific about names.

Re: back line

It does say on the Swans website that Grundy is a defender. Perhaps LRT might lose his spot???

Either way, I think he should be a regular somewhere, I think it's possible to stunt a players momentum and growth by dropping him back to the twos when he clearly has the talent for senior footy. Also, this MIGHT be the beginning of the end for Matthews and/or Crouch. There are some great young players (eg Dempster, Bevan) who can just as easily do the job... whadda ya think????

It will be interesting to see what happens with Crouch and Mathews next year. Roos has always made it clear that they were automatic selections. I hope that outlook may change next year.
I believe McVeigh in a run with role offers far more as he is a better counter attacking option. Dempster's height provides added flexibility, although whether he can shut a player out of the game is probably debatable.
The danger is that all 4 play and that has the potential to increase the team's negativity.
I fear the pace of the game has passed Mathews by and Crouch simply doesn't get enough of the ball, or use it effectively when he does. He is only of value as a shut out player and then only on certain opponents. Bevan's extra height provides him with an advantage over Crouch, but I think Roos sees him as a back up player.

As for Grundy I don't think he'll ever make a defender. IMHO he doesn't have the pace or stamina. I honestly don't see him as a long term option as a KPP.
