Foxtel's coverage of AFL has been a disgrace so far!

UPDATE MON 5:00 PM -26/3

Still haven't seen any AFL of any description for 6 days now on Fox Sports.

The season begins in 4 days.

This is becoming a joke.

If I see any more cricket I'll spew up.

As an AFL fan I appreciate the fact that Foxtel have ensured that I have been able to see more Carlton games live while living in Brisbane, than was ever possible in the days before pay-tv coverage of AFL & will continue to ensure that is the case. That is what is about for me. Not having to wait until 11.45pm to see a Friday or Saturday night game, or totally missing out on a Sunday afternoon game if Carlton weren't playing the first of the double headers on Channel 9 (unfortunately at 4.00pm Channel 9 always showed the NRL) or Channel 7 prior to 2002.

This season the twilight games & Friday night games among others will be shown live on Foxtel instead of buried late at night after some crummy American drama show & the late night news. AFL supporters in Qld & NSW who do not follow Brisbane or Sydney have been getting a raw deal from the FTA networks for years. Foxtel ensure that these supporters are guaranteed to see their team either live or on replay, something the FTA networks have never guaranteed & never will guarantee. In other words, all 8 games either live or replayed on Foxtel, something that the FTA networks are not prepared to commit to.

Absolutely spot on.

Whilst there's no way in hell I'll ever actually do it, it's fantastic to know that with the exception of the Channel 10 Saturday night game, which generally is shown on a half-hour delay, you can watch any other match live on either 7, 10 or Fox Footy.

I'm not so biased as to demand these to be on free-to-air. Three games a week live/delay on free to air, with the balance of live games on Fox Sports, is probably the ultimate package any footy fan up here can hope for.

Didnt FOXTEL's Chief Executive, Mr Kim Williams, say last year that he would "destroy AFL".
With blokes like that on our side, who needs enermies.

Some of you are in dreamland. If it was commercially sensible to air all eight games on FTA, don't you think the FTA networks would be killing each other to do just that?

It isn't commercially viable to show all eight games on FTA because, frankly, it doesn't rate that well. Other shows rate better, therefore its more sensible to show those programs, because they get more advertising revenue. If every game got 1.2 million viewers there is no way known that the FTA networks would let Fox near it, no matter what the money. Looking at some of the rating figures, some games are lucky to draw 100,000 viewers, in TV terms, no one so Fox get to show it because 100,000 paying viewers is a good income stream. For a FTA network 100,000 viewers is Gunthy-Renker Australia territory or Quizmania.

The AFL were happy with Nine because they made Friday night an event and even some of the less attractive games rated well. But its hard to make eight games a week an event for TV. Sat/Sun afternoon is good for the FTA networks they get more viewers than normal showing footy. Firday night the network has to make attractive so they don't get outrated by a movie. Why do you think NRL Monday night is on Fox, because Nine would get murdered in the ratings if they showed it.

Get over it. 7 are not the saviours of football, 10 aren't either. They're in it to make money not service some small portion of the population. + at least Fox have some other footy related programming unlike 7 who will show 2 games (6hrs) a week and that's it. Nine have 4hrs without the footy.

Just looking at this months Austar guide I can confirm that half of the 'replays' are in fact 90 minutes highlights packages.

In the press conference when the deal was announced that stupid bald bloke clearly said all games will be replayed throughout the week. A 90 minutes highlights package is NOT a replay. Can Foxtel get away with lying to the public like this? Surely it's false advertising? I urge everyone to email them and tell them what you think

I have emailed them a query on this matter because it was certainly my understanding that they were shoiwng replays in full.

Officially, they are being equivocal - they are saying that nothing is as yet set in stone, things will unfold. They actually told me and I quote "well we take out all the breaks and pre and post game stuff so it reduces it to the normal 90 minutes of a game"

Gotta love how they are all over AFL in Sydney.

I suspect that pressure AND the ending of the Super 14 season (;) )may assist in this area.

**** some people make me sick...

What exactly are you missing out on at the moment?

Cricket is currently experiencing their largest spectacle- their olympics if you like. If you dont like cricket, dont watch it, no one is forcing you to. However i think the cricket is a far better programming option than watching AFL teams train which is the only football going on at the moment.

Wait until the beginning of round 2, if you think the coverage is still $hit and they are not showing full replays of round 1, speak up and have your whinge, until than drop it and enjoy the programmimg on the 100 other channels available.

How do 7 & 10 measure up over the same period? Or is it a case of 'different strokes for different blokes? Remind me again how many of the 8 games a week are going to be shown respectively on 7 & 10.

Austars Fixture Card says:

"Every game, every week uninterrupted from siren to siren – only on FOX SPORTS."

I have a feeling that there will be both 90 minute and 2 hour replays. Each game receiving a "full" replay.

Just had a look at the Foxtel tv guide. Looks like they will only be having 90 minutes highlights of the free-to-air matches and not full replay of the match.

Poor effort Foxtel!:(

Fox Footy also had one 90 minute replay of each rounds game along with 120 minute replays

All I'm saying is that I've been totally ripped off these last 2 weeks with a shocking lack of AFL coverage.
You need to record the games to VCR/DVD for use. I have many. Start today a nd in a few years who knows how many you will have.

Sure it will improve, I have no doubt.

But I'd rather watch NAB CUP replays than a boring cricket game...be it World Cup or Pura Cup.

Youre likely in the 1% of people who would prefer to watch replays of the nothing cup than live sport.

One thing to note here, Fox Footy Channel is no more. Consider that a moment.

7 & 10 arent asking you to pay for 90 minute games.

9 used to serve up cut-down games into sydney in the wee-hours. Its an appalling way to watch footy. Totally ruins the experience. It cant be overstated how bad cut-down games are to watch. With footy its all or nothing.

Either foxtel broke a promise, or you can Catman Forever lied.

Yep with footy it's all or nothing, which is exactly what we'd get of half the matches each week without Foxtel, absolutely nothing.
Let's see now, what would one prefer, an "appalling" ninety minute replay package or no replay at all, ummmm, hard one to answer.

And what's with the personal attacks on Foxtel subscribers, as evidenced by this quote ........... I[t] would appear you have the intellegence of a typical Foxtel subscriber. Always trying to justify why you waste so much money and time on the basic act of watching TV. .............. if we can afford it and wish to pay for it that's our business surely.

The only place I've seen Fox advertising is on the set of the nine footy show, u wouldn't know Foxtel had the rights I don't recall one Ad promoting the upcoming season or mention of any AFL programming.

Maybe thats because 7 & 10 wont allow FOXTEL to advertise their 4 games a week on their channels because they are still pi$$ed off?

Look around the next time you go shopping, and the foxtel shops are covered in AFL promotions

are all you little whiny tossers still complaining.

who would of thought after the season kicks off guess what replays of games.

amaizing.

AFL specialty shows.

amaizing.

only Einstein himself could of predicted that right.
Yeah too bad the replay of games are condensed and you miss the first 2 minutes after each goal.

Also, no replays between Sun 1:00am and Sun 10:00am. Poor form Fox.

Still kind of disgraceful, if you think about it.
