Not sure what the photo on that article is trying to suggest?

I definitely don't care about this situation as much as I used to.

The upcoming finals are much more important, and I think we'll be in a great position whether he stays or goes at the end of the year.

I'll care a lot more after the season. Maybe during the finals I'll be thinking "this might be his last game for Hawthorn'', but only for a moment.

The essendon happenings have cured me of any blind hero-worship & expecting the end of the world if he leaves. Placing individuals over an entire Club is crazy & no good for anyone.

If he stays, absolutely fantastic.

If he goes, it's very disappointing but Hawthorn lives on.

I agree. Over the last month or so I've found I don't really care where he'll end up next season. Would love it to be here with us but I think I'd be disappointed if it was at the expense of such a large part of our salary cap. At some point he's just not worth it from a playing list/salary cap perspective. It's at that point I'd rather see him go for what will be that insufficient compensation pick and then see us pick up a few quality free agents of our own to strengthen our side across the board. ~$7M over 5 years is a huge price to pay for a forward when we've already got heaps of quality down there without him.

That said, if we don't win the flag this year and then he pisses off for more money elsewhere I think that's when I'd start to care again haha

I couldn't care less any more. This year is all about a flag, nothing else matters.

between the approaching finals and the whole Essendon thing i'd actually forgotten about this.

now we get get back to norm of being told by the media what a destabilising effect its having on the club.

I agree with most on this page, If Buddy leaves i believe we have a strong enough forward line to continue to be a top 4 team.
Just look at some of the games he has missed, the hawks have shown they can win without him.

I wouldn't spend anytime comparing what the contract to play Footy at Hawthorn vs GWS represents. It's the 'other' components that he will be paid as a Hawthorn player but not by Hawthorn that will keep him in the Borwn & Gold.
Crown Casino?

Am I right in saying that if Buddy is going then he will have to announce it on the Monday after the grand final? If this is the case, how long do we have to chase other free agents? If it's something silly like a week, as I remember it being said, then surely Hawthorn will have insisted that Buddy give them a decision before "after the gf". If he's going then we have $1million to spend on quality players (mids) and we need adequate time to pursue replacements.

Also when Buddy keeps saying "we'll deal with it after the season" it's a somewhat ambiguous. Is he referring to after the finals or just after the home and away season? Id love him to announce that hes staying the week before the grand final. Imagine the roar as he runs out on grand final day.

Free Agency begins the following Friday after the GF (October 4) and ends on October 18 but we'd be granted a further three days until October 21 if we wanted to match an offer of a restricted free agent. But that might only be the case if the offer was put in on the last day of FA (Oct 18)

Can you think of a reason why Buddy would want to leave discussions until the end of the season if he wasn't going? Any tactical bargaining between he and the club would surely have been exhausted by now and leaving it until the end of the season is now only an annoyance and distraction for everyone involved. Bottom line is that announcing that you're leaving a club while you're still playing for them isnt culturally accepted in AFL. If Buddy was going this would be his only way of handling it. He literally has no other option other than to say that.

The only shred of hope I cling to is that he and the club have agreed to terms and have agreed to a calculated announcement. I still wonder whether they would could justify the benefit of doing that though given the distracting state of the affair.

In my very humble opinion, gathered from watching many Buddy interviews, I believe he hasn't made a final decision yet. This is a very big decision for him to make, and he could be waiting for something that will swing him one way or the other.
The biggest drawback as far as I see is that the club cannot solidify any contingency plans until it knows Buddy's plans.

What could possibly change his decision now though? If we win the flag then he knows that he's playing for a great team but at the same time he also could and say "well I've won multiple flags and am ready for a new challenge" if we don't win the flag then he could say "I have unfinished business with Hawthorn" or "This team are past it". Its all neither here nor there.

The bottom line is that he either goes from a very good club with the possibility of winning flags in the next 3 years or an emerging club that will probably be in flag contention in 5+ years. I would suggest that all the parameters within which he needs to make his decision are already fixed. Whats more if you buy that he's leaving it until the end of the season he has 6 days to do all his thinking and decision making before the free agency dead line. That's not a realistic The decision must have already been made in his mind surely. That just begs the question .... why isn't he making it public?

Media exposure for Buddy ball, Buddy boot, Nena & Pasadena, Tasmania, iinet etc...

How much longer does he need to make up his mind! ?
My goodness, they say women take too long to decide on matters..Surely 7 months is long enough to make his mind up! Just be honest and speak up. That's all we ask of you WHILST with the Hawks.I don't care where he goes, just tell the club. You know where you are going Buddy, Honesty is tbe best policy!

I think if a decision had been made the secret would be out of the bag. It is too big to be kept under the hat.
Buddy is not sure exactly what he wants. It's like your son a choice of presents for his birthday, and he has to select. He defers the decision to the last minute.

We will be better without him. We would've won the gf without him last year, he's a liability who is about as consistent as the Melbourne weather.

Harsh words I know but lets be honest, he won't improve from his age, it's all about how much and how quick he will decline.

The Hawks will be a better team, less predictable and more depth with the extra cap and draft picks with him gone.

Apologies if I offended anyone, I used to love Buddy but the way he's played games with the media and his comments and distractions etc etc has brought full rage.

F#$%k off to GWS Buddy and play in the backwaters of the competition with your aru party buddies . This guy is a poser, let him go be the man whilst his talents are wasted and forgotten.

If he loved and wanted to play for Hawthorn he would've signed already. I just hope our recruiters are out there as if he's going already and our options are all good to go.

Always Hawthorn, Never the individual.
