Franks for the memories. Things don't always go well with COLA

Plus they get him after picking up Tippett on about $1M per year last year. I think there is a general outcry in the AFL community right now.
Meanwhile Carlton, Bulldogs & Brisbane are crying for a full forward. Can't draft one cause the expansion teams are taking them, can't buy one cause the COLA flogs are taking them.

Would like to know exactly what HFC has to match as part of the restricted free agency deal. There are many components to a contract and these have different values depending on who is doing the analysis. Dollars aren;t the only thing under consideration.

So precisely how would the AFL evaluate slightly different deals put to buddy by the Hawks and Sydney? For example, if HFC said it would pay him $10m over twenty years with clauses to curtail the contract in the event of retirement or injury, how would this compare with one from Sydney worth $9m over nine years?

In other words, is HFC required to match the Sydney contract verbatim rather than putting up something slightly different bit maybe more attractive?

My 2 young boys are shattered.
How do I answer the Why question?

Buddy is a glory-seeking w***er who wants to hang out with his tosser mates. Now kids, did I ever tell you about Hodgey in '08.

Anyone else think that Roughead winning the Coleman medal was a statement to Franklin implying that 'we don't need you, we can do very well without you'' ?

Not sure about that but Al has been clever enough to set the side up so we don't rely on him.

Not phased with him going, been settled with that for several months.

However, this deal does seem to sound the death knell for Aussie Rules as it used to be.

Welcome to Aussie Rules USA, or AFL - EPL.

The top 4 or 5 clubs are going to poach the Beejesus out of the lower tier clubs.
The bottom 4 or 5 are going to be the breeding ground of future champions (just not at that club!).

Not my kind of sporting comp...

No. I don't blame him. Nor do I blame free agency - it was brought in because the players wanted it. The problem here is the inequity of the cola and the fact that it effectively puts one team in an unbeatable position.

Sen has reported today that Buddy's management spoke to Sydney about playing for them 2 weeks after playing in the 2012 GF.

Really highlights his character.

Paul Chapman - Looses to Hawthorn in 2008 premierships. Vows to never loose to Hawthorn again. They atone by not loosing to Hawks for 11 straight matches.

Lance Franklin - Losses to Sydney in 2012 premiership. Approaches them, and asks if he can join.

I bet you the players are feeling just as betrayed as we are. I would be filthy, whilsts all the other players are hurting, fighting for redemption. Their so called team mate and 'best friend' is already making plans to join the team that just broke their hearts.

Buddy will now be remembered as a great player that played for Hawthorn. He will never be a Hawthorn Champion though. Thats reserved for players that actually care about the club, Hodgey, Mitchell, etc.

Yep, equalisation was officially flushed down the toilet today. We've always know it was spin but Sydney has made it very real now.

For those parents talking to their kids, please tell the tale of the legend known as "Dunstall". A man who gave up a 10 year deal to return home, only to stay loyal to his beloved football club. A man who is still involved today and has been instrumental in our 2008 and 2013 premierships.

That my friends is a true Hawthorn legend.

I heard an interview with Roughead yesterday where that was effectively what he said outright. Did not sound too impressed, old Roughy.

My view on this is a little different.

This is free agency. Hawthorn have been a dab hand at extracting required players from other clubs (Burgoyne, Gunston) albeit under a trading regime. We have to cop it sweet.

As to the compensation side of things - We get cap space to keep the other talented players we have - the compensation pick is neither here nor there and any trade that might be possible will never get close to full freight.

Lets consider this though - Lance Franklin turns 27 in January. He will be under contract until near his 36th birthday. He has potentially two or three top flight seasons to go before he gets to the middle of that perposterous deal. It is highly likely his best football will be as a Hawk.

The Swans will load his contract in different years but they still have to come up with 10 million.

I can cop free agency when the financial playing field is level. fact is it 'aint.

Swings and round-abouts that's how i feel about free agency.

COLA- If it was to exist at all should be assessed case by case by an independent third party.

Buddy- Mentally he had already left The Mighty Hawks this season. We will be better off with out him.

2014- Back to Back.

Can anyone tell me how I go about renaming my dog ?

Just put Love on the end of it

Doesn't take long before life kicks in huh? Glorious player at the Hawks, I wish him well, but I hope the move doesn't hurt us.
Dont think it will, we're a very strong club.
