Rich vs poor and good vs bad suburbs are two seperate discussions. And also off topic. Please put forth a suggestion about what can be done about Frankston. If you're unsure about how to feel about this thread, the poll should give you a good indication on how serious it is.

If poor suburbs were as good as rich suburbs they wouldn't be poor suburbs. They'd be rich suburbs because the rich people would want to live there.

Anyways, I said that Franga's should be flushed down the toilet if you must know.

/facepalm

You're bolding that innocuous line, yet in your explanation of good suburbs that aren't rich you use vibrant diverse inner city hubs with cafes etc... Show me a suburb like that with a median house (not shitty 1-2br apartment) price under $1 million and I'll eat my hat.

This is a serious thread IF Frankston blood courses through your veins.

TradeDraft has valiantly resisted the crypto-fascist doodles98 and his lapdog Apex36.

Come the revolution, both of these puppets will be hiding in their sock drawers.

I believe the normal composition is 5% plasma, 10% water, 25% cholesterol, 10% alcohol, 10% methadone and 40% methamphetamine. Frankston blood is no laughing matter it's true!

Welcome back.
This place hasn't been the same without you:)

And Frankston thanks you:p

I still don't like the Frankston Bashing EVEN if it's mucking around.

Be same as Bagging Cranbourne

Cranbourne is what the next thread will be about!

Cranbourne exists to give the Frangas someone to look down on. A public service indeed.

Restoring their VFL team would be a good start. Frankston's somewhat rightfully got a bad rep, but there's areas of Melbourne that are a lot worse with a lot less going for them. At least Frankston has the bay and is close by the peninsula.

You seem to like this worst thread on the board Dave! Without you it would have petered out into ignominious thread obscurity. As it is my first and one and only thread, I wish to thank you for keeping it going. You have valiantly defended your beloved Frankston and now, as thread host, I will do my best Tony Jones impersonation and repay you by trying to balance the equation by bringing up some positive facts about Frankston.

1. Cheap
This is what Domain has to say on the list of Melb suburbs :
212. Frankston North -39 $
The cheapest suburb in Melbourne is Frankston North, with a median house price of $288,000 – yet it’s a long way from being the least liveable. A bargain.
** (edit..OMG $288K.. and it's a whole house.. not just a car park!)

2. Massages.. apparently Frankston has a high density of top quality massage venues.

3. Beach: It's by the bay did you know.. has a beach... Does YOUR suburb have a beach? Frankston has a beach.

4. Avocado on toast: Cafes with healthy eating options are springing up all over Frankston.

5. Gun Crime: Frankston is NOT one of the worst suburbs for gun related crime.

6. Old Fashioned values: Frankston is old skool bra! Sheilas can still enjoy a wolf whistle and the use of the term "****ter" in general conversation is not frowned upon. They still have milk bars in Frankston where you can get a chiko roll! nuff said! respec!

7. Hipster Free Zone. nuff said.

8. There's hot springs somewhere not too far away

Yes lime green would be a great choice. It would compliment the yellow of the box to give the space a zesty fresh feel. The plum color in that photo clashes with the sharps box imo and perhaps brings it too sharply into focus.

Less need for our guns now we have driven all the hipsters out.
LOL.. BUT.. you've just given the gun lobby another platform! I look forward to seeing this badly acted out in the next Bob Katter election ad. Think of the children before you post ffs Walter!

Frankston has a lot going for it:
  • It's on the bay
  • It has Oliver's Hill, for a great view over Port Phillip Bay
  • It has Modernist architecture - check out the Round House
  • Its the gateway to the Mornington Peninsula
  • The Mornington Peninsula is a renowned wine making region
I'll be dropping by a few wineries tomorrow, in Red Hill, before making my way to the VFL game.

The Melbourne community needs a change of attitude, a different perspective, when assessing Frankston.

We also have some great posters from Frankston.:)
Yep Frankston is seriously underrated

Just quietly, the hot springs is still a fair old hike from there!

The expulsion of Frankston from the VFL is very sad. May I share some childhood memories?

In the seventies, panel vans would line the northern boundary fence. Giants of men, long-haired and bearded but the antitheses of hipsters, sat atop their chariots with slabs of VB. IF the umpire erred - and back then the umpire was manly enough to solo-officiate - empties might be pitched his way. Full cans were rarely thrown: a marker of frugality more than chivalry.

Ray Davies was captain-coach. He was tattooed, averse to dentistry, and delivered stirring three-quarter time speeches. I recounted one speech to my father and narrowly missed out on a whack for dropping the c-bomb. Frankston was 40 goals up against Langwarrin in a practice game and Ray was filthy they weren't 50 ahead.

There were no melees: there were all-in-brawls. There were no jumper punches. And IF a heavy sou-westerly blew from the bay, it maddened players and crowd alike. Giants would alight from their Sandmen and run on the ground to get closer to the brawl. Crowd violence was rare unless you were a Mordialloc fan.

At the final siren most of us ran on the ground; no-one had to wait for a second siren. The people of Frankston owned the ground.

Brings back memories of local 70s football. I lived in Port Melbourne as a teenager, and was always at Northport Oval to see the Borough play. Your description is pretty apt, although I had a love/hate relationship with that team which continues to this day.

This is good.. Keep the Frankston memoir's coming people.

I actually have a couple myself. After just finishing high school a mate of mine moved down to Frankston with his girlfriend. I was visiting him during the serial killings in the early 90's. They lived a short walk to the golf course where the third victim was killed. I remember how spooky it felt knowing there was someone out there doing this and you could sense the fear in people. My mate wouldn't let his girlfriend go anywhere on her own.

The other one was a new years eve I spent down there that same year with the same guy. We couldn't get into anywhere decent and ended up in a real dive called the Ye Old English pub. We got into a fight and my mate got himself a badly broken nose and I spent the rest of new years eve waiting with him in emergency. Great night out in Franga:thumbsu:
