I think as a whole we have done well

I really like the outcome considering this draft
Yeah, so far we have not been sucked into getting mediocre players nor players we don’t need

Schultz is the only one we’ve missed IMO

Apologies for the intrusion, but is Fisher actually a good kick over <40m distances? Or just average? I know he lacks penetration so he'd surely need another string to his bow if he's been up for selection semi-regularly for a team that made a prelim. Cheers

He's a good to very good kick in open space. Very one sided though which means he can struggle under pressure.

Tbh sounds like Schultz got a direct approach from Collingwood by his manager with a good money deal.

He wasn't obviously on the market

Points wise our two picks are worth more than Pick 8, but that's not really the reality. If we were to throw in our F1, I'd want more than just Pick 8.

How about 21, 25, F1 for 8, F2, F3?

Demons just gave up an extra 1000 points for GC pick

Plus we need a reasonable pick for Hollands

Can't see us chasing pick 8 now, nor would we have the pick capital of other clubs

And, think Cats want decent picks for next year

Why did we give anything for him?
Good question. Can only think Austin is wanting to try and nab pick 8 from GEE - as has been mooted by some other posters.

Pick 21 = 878 points
Pick 25 = 756 points
TOTAL = 1634 points

Pick 8 = 1551 points
Or Austin sees a couple of late smokeys end rd 1/early round 2 ??...

We were never getting Geelong’s Pick with the hand we had. Two picks inside 25 in this draft is quite handy.

Now I can beat the drum for Edwards and Zakostelsky potentially. Also liking Sanchez, Gothard and O’Driscoll, maybe Delean around that range. Other than perhaps Tholstrup, #17 was in no man’s land for mine.

Correct, if the cats were dealing pick 8 you’d think they would have dealt with Melbourne who just gave up pick 14 and a couple of mid second rounders for a 3 pick upgrade to 11

Doubt pick 17 and a future first would have got pick 8, at which point I’m not interested anyway if it’s anything more

Which is fine, but it makes me wonder what Austin was talking about when asked if we were looking to go further up the draft.

I'm a bit disappointed.
Don't think we should have had to slide #17
l don't think Austin is done yet, he was true to his word with getting a positive outcome with Fisher.

l believe he has the goal of getting a earlier pick & having now two in the top 25 & next year's F1st makes this a possibility which was Austin's goal.

I feel like the difference between SOS and Austin is that SOS was a better negotiator and cared more for getting the better trade, whereas Austin is better at drafting/picking better players and cares less about 'winning' the trade. I know which one I would prefer if you had to choose one. Austin.

If we go in with picks 21 and 25, I have trust that Austin will pick 2 good players. He is saying that pick 21 and 25 are no different to 17 so all of a sudden we have 2 players of the same standard as 17 but no Fisher who wanted out.

Let's not focus on who won the trade but what we get out of it. This one makes a lot of sense.
SoS was as obsessed with winning grades based on the points system as anyone that has ever been in the afl system. He lived and died by it.

It is a 4 pick downgrade on a late first rounder - 17 to 21 &
an extra 2nd round pick which will be around 30. Remeber fish was drafted at 27

If Fish went for pick 30 it is what he is worth. The downgrade is steak knives within the context of the whole trade.
Good business and this is far better than pick 42. We have an extra 2nd round draft picks for a guy who is 25y0 fringe player

Gonna need a couple from your massive bag of picks to answer that zoomba.

Waiting to see the rest of the period before judging on giving up 17. Think we’ve done quite well to get a deal like this after first being offered a pick in the 40s. Valued at Pick 31 is about right and in the range he’s worth.

Disappointing for some, sure. But let’s see what unfolds first before getting our backs up. Austin wants to move up the order.

This is proof the points system is nonsense. Just look at the trade the Dees just did for pick 11 to see how far away 21+25 is from being worth pick 8.
