Toast Fremantle's 1st 2016 National Draft Pick: Griffin Logue [Pick #8]

For those of you put off because of his height you got to remember he dominated the jumping section of the combine (71cm standing, 91cm right-foot) and could make up a few centimeters in the marking category (think Nic Nat except slightly less jumpy and actually able to do things other then jump). He also appears to be a very strong mark in the highlights, so I don't see his height as an issue.

Logue - 193

Buddy - 196
Walker - 194
Hawkins - 197
J.Reiwoldt - 195
N. Reiwoldt - 194
Kennedy (Weagles) - 196
Joughead (hope he recovers) - 193

None of them have him straight out dwarfed.

Also IMO playing him as just a defender would be a waste of his talent.

Salim. I have not said a single negative thing about Griffin Logue. In fact I believe the recruiters made the right pick given our needs and the remaining players. What I don't agree with is people that believe this bloke is the answers to our problems coming off half back. Ok skills, which the club, yourself and I have all described him as having simply won't cut it imo. He holds the attributes to make a good inside midfielder but given our current brigade I'd prefer he didn't at this stage.

I said his skills were fine, in anyones book that means they pass any test. Don't miss quote me to push your own opinion and if labelling our first top 10 pick in ages as not being good enough to play back and would only make it as an inside mid because of his limited skill set isn't putting him down what is.

Jesus christ mate. You said they're fine. They are. They're not ****ing exquisite though are they? I explicitly stated he would make an excellent key back multiple times. Piss off.

I see him as as a similar type to Alex Rance who comes in at 194cm... very mobile, reliable kick and has an attacking side. Far from a hulking KPP but has all the skill set to play on big and small

I really rate logue and super happy we picked him up. WA boy will play 200 for us, bookmark it

Back in the days of Cable and others, mids were often around Ballas height (175cm)
Toward the late 90s the 6 foot mids like cousins were prevalent
That has pushed up to 6'1, 6'2, and even 6'3 in recent years with the success of Goodes, Mundy, Fyfe, and now Bont and Cripps (amongst others).
Looking at the decade ahead, the way things are progressing, I expect we will see many more 6'3, 6'4 (191-194) mids (of course, not excluding the odd shorter speedster or specialist extractor), with the KPP moving from the 192-195cms of Pav and Reiwolt's era to the 198+ KPP we are already seeing.

I was curious as to why we selected so many 192cm+ lads this year but they are all young, and looking ahead, this does not necessarily mean we need to box them up as KPP. I think our recruiters have been considering the long game as they rebuild with a young group.

200? 300 minimum my freind

Whether he can kick or can't, surely it's not any worse than the current Dawson mark, handball to closest man running past, caught holding the ball/turnover, rinse, repeat?

He won't be the answer to our ball transition from defense, it will be an improvement on all parts of the system. Better users off the half back line, midfielders with pace and skill that can run and spread and actually kick it to the forwards advantage; forwards that can make the right leads and take a mark or at least make a contest.

Edit: come to think of it, none of our KPD are particularly good kicks. I still expect Johno to turnover for a goal at least once a game.

ive read through some of the comments here, the guy has literally just being drafted and you guys are ripping in and lambasting his skills and calling him no good . Give the ****ing guy a chance, how many of you have actually seen him kick a ball or are u just looking at his draft highlights and putting a line through his name for his career. What a soft lot you are.

Yep. I was talking about this with a mate today actually. I think Logue/Cox/Duman are all looking at being tall utilities. All have shown a glimpse of being able to do that. Plus we just drafted a bloke known as a great tap ruckman. With tall, hard running mids around stoppage, the ruckmans around the ground influence is less as our team is naturally tall. Imagine if all 3 make it and we already have Fyfe/Blakely/Balic as other tall options to develop as well. I think this year we've addressed our mids as much as our KPP stocks.
