Apologies on crashing two threads, have Venables-Bundy fuelled confidence.

Love this pick from you as well. For somebody who hasn't played that long he's a natural footballer. Performing well at league level always an indicator of quality too. You've done a great job taking Logue over English then getting Darcy later who will smash English so he can't get up!

Is he an elite athlete playing and beating lesser fit footballers, soon to be playing against footballers as fit as him?
If he is an elite athlete already and hasn't even gone through an afl pre season and hit the gym like elite athletes doe every day wouldn't that improve him even more ? It's not like all other players his age have less of an opertunuty to do what he does. Maybe he just has more of a professional attitude to play to the best of his ability and sustain a high fitness base.

Yes, exactly why he was drafted at pick 8

In time, he further develops his strengths, establishes how to routinely capitalise on them, apply them to a designated game plan, and pushes for a debut in his first year at the club.

Complex script

All players drafted will need to get better.
Without a doubt and there is a lot of versatility to work with with a freak athlete that is also tall.

I need to be very clear, I'm not unhappy that we drafted him, I have many questions on him - that's all.

The big one is: "where do the club see him playing?"

Start him in the back half and with experience move him into the midfield. Its not a difficult question to answer. A 194 cm beast with his leap, endurance and pace whats not to like. I've seen him play a couple of times and haven't seen much wrong with his disposal.

Is he 191, 193 or 194 cms??

I've deliberately stayed away from draft speculation threads because I don't watch enough of the guys being touted to have an intelligent opinion but also because I didn't want to have expectations of who we would pick up and be disappointed that we didn't take him.

I have been reading this guy since we picked him up, and the common themes that stand out when people talk/write about him are:

1) his work ethic
2) his great attitude

3) his athletic ability and football talent (not too shabby there, too!)

I think the third can be honed into a really fine point if you have the first and the second - which are attributes you can't teach.

The fourth bit is that this guy grew up dreaming of being a Docker, and now he is. I don't think we can discount the emotional pull of that. Unless the club totally ****s up in how we treat him or we cut him because he's not up to scratch, it's highly likely that at worst we have a serviceable loyal servant as a back up defender and at best we've found ourselves a 200 gamer who will bleed purple for the club.

As with all the draftees, time will tell. But it seems to be a really good pick for number 8, particularly if he is the one we wanted from the start.

Haha, like that ever stopped us on here from retrospectively bagging out the recruiters who make a full-time job of it Grape Bear! Can I please never hear the terms "intelligent opinion" and "Big Footy" in the same post again.
