Toast Fremantle's 1st 2016 National Draft Pick: Griffin Logue [Pick #8]

SERIOUSLY give the guy a chance, im sure less than 10% of the people here who say hes a shit kick have never seen him kick live
Read about seven or so mock draft reports from former recruiter's like Buckenara. Not one mentioned kicking as a weakness. In fact the penetration of his kicking was described as a strength by most. There is very little highlights of him playing on the internet apart from the Allies game and the Freo website where his kicking looks great.

Just read the last 2 pages .... Jeez the off season is strong in some of you:drunk:

What's with jumping down posters necks every post ?
Dockernut makes an offhand comment about how the interview projected and he's promptly lined up for a brickin'.

Settle down keyboard heroes - or find an activity to vent some anger.... It's terrible reading atm

( insert grandpa Simpson "that's a paddlin' video )

Not really, just met with a bit of sarcasm. I do agree with the general point of your post though, certainly a few people who need a bex and a lie down.

I watched his interview and thought he presented a modest assessment of his ability and prospects.
Simply saying I've done nothing yet and I'll be putting my shoulder to the wheel in order to learn and give my best.
Appeared very realistic and commited to prove himself worthy of the club's faith and the opportunity.
Which is what his very brief footy history tells us he's about.

I hope he said this in his next interview

Put the team first

“The first step to playing as a defensive midfielder is understanding your role and accepting it. You’re there to work hard and to help everyone else, before yourself. The role of the defensive midfielder has changed. In the past it was just about protecting the back four, but now you are asked to do everything: score goals, make assists and defend. Your team-mates need to be able to count on you. And when you’re having a bad game you need to know they’ve got your back. This kind of trust gives you confidence.”
Use your football brain

“As a defensive midfielder you must be tactically aware. You’re at the heart of the team so you have to hold everything together and allow other players to express themselves. To do this you need to talk a lot and use your brain, because quite often you have to be in the right place at the right time. You have to cover the gap between the midfield and the back four, cover the left and right full-backs when they go forward and the central defenders when they push further up the pitch.”

Impose yourself early

“Physicality was a very important part of my game. I knew that the first contact in the battle was going to be really important. This is the moment when you impose yourself and win games. Being strong in the first tackle says, ‘I’m here and I’m going to try and make it hard for you’. Intimidation is part of the game, but as a defensive midfielder you also have to be really good technically. You have to have the ability to collect the ball from the back four and pass it on to the front players.”

My unqualified opinion is I reckon Freo have got an absolute ripper with Logue.
I knew nothing of him prior to the draft, but having watched the various available media including him, I'm most impressed.
Why, because he appears to me to be a smart footballer. His highlights show plenty of examples of high quality decision making. Many of his contested marks involve clever use of his body. He reads the play and bounce of the ball intuitively and he appears to have extra time that few (and often the elite) players possess.

I hope RTB uses him as a dangerous swing impact type utility player (a lock down Key Defender role may be a waste of his talents). Because of his athleticism and smarts, I believe he will be a very hard player to match up on. I've had this confidence early in players before with Fyfe, Neale and Blakely ... I'm excited about a draft pick I first did not understand, but now have enormous respect for.

Actually it's jasper who says that not abe simpson ;)

That's a paddling for not knowing

Just catching up on the draftees and watching Logue's footage. He reminds me of Luke Hodge.
Looks like an exciting prospect. Pacy, tested well, good grab, gritty, quick hands and a local boy. I can see why they think they have lots to work with here.

Clearly it's time for him to consider getting a hair and getting a real job. Not AFL material. Freo were obviously unsure about selecting him. I mean, instead of using our pick 7 on him, we waited til 8. My thorough expert analysis concludes that this clearly shows the club lacks faith in his abilities - am I doing this right?
