Haha in Europe atm. Woke up at 4am, checked the score 8 goals to 3 down. 😫😡😓😭 flipping Freo, flipping Norf, wtf…

Go back to a fitful sleep where Logue isn’t injured, and goes forward and kicks 5 on AP; Darcy Tucker gets 25 and 2 and LDU gets the 3 votes. Stuff of nightmares!

I wake up 2 hours later groggy and sad, to see a 5 goal win! Celebrate good times! 🥳🥳🥳

(Still … can’t be giving up those leads after super-shitful starts then expect to go on a thrilling run to catch up and zoom past. Happy AF, but a little worried if this trend continues).

Bring on the Crows (with Freo kicking the first 4 goals of the game, then keeping the lead!!).

Great win to get off to a 2-0 start. Early wins aren’t to be sneezed at.
Plenty of freo fans there too which was great to see.
  • jackson was clear BOG for me. What a player.
  • Serong was excellent again and should be in the votes.
  • loved Brayshaw third term - he really set the tone in that period when we were on top.
Ryan, Clark and Treacy the others to deserve a mention.
  • fyfes presence is just so crucial. He’s a beast in the clearances.
  • thought north were good actually. Ran us out of the game up to HT but you kinda felt the young bodies would drop off. We were lucky not to be further behind TBH. - These slow starts are a real issue against fired up opposition.
  • I’ve been a Banfield critic over the years and I still stand by that as been poor more often than not. But he’s started this season really well and is becoming an important role player. He’s much better so far this season than he used to be. Physical presence, took his two goal chances and played well. Keep it up banners
  • ball use out of defence still an issue for us IMO. We need another elite ball user back there by foot.

Don't think Pearce has received much love on here (some but not alot). He is our only experienced tall kpd and he did very well on a gun forward. He also led a defence with half of its first chosen not playing. Good to see him playing with some confidence again.
He looks to be a completely different player to what he was at many points last year, looks to have regained his mojo and is a massively strong leader on the field.

there were some horrible things said about him on here in the first half

Did you notice though that when Fyfe went off we started losing out of the middle again till Johnson went in and we won the next one with 2 involvements from Johnson.

We need that big body for Serong and Brayshaw to get to work around. It's why we got killed last year without Mundy. Young helps but he doesn't yet have the craft of Fyfe or even Johnson at the ball ups. Young might actually do better on the wing and let MJ play inside.

JOM played onball beginning of the 4th. I’m over him appearing in the centre square. Has the turning circle of a truck.

Maybe a bit harsh but he is costing Cooper Simpson gametime and development. We have to awkwardly shoehorn him onto a HF flank to justify his selection.

for those of us who missed it, how was Draper?

I thought defensively he was adequate; his mobility was good and he was in the right places compared to whomever he was on and got his hand to a few in coming jobs. Did he run with a player closely? Hard to tell - It felt he was more playing team defence and chopping out where required.

In terms of counter-offensive, he was pretty conservative - as others noted, he started by dishing off quick short 5m handballs as soon as he got the ball which in itself was fine except that they were generally not a great rebounding option. As mentioned by Rhufus his first kick in earnest unfortunately went to the opposition and ended up being a goal.

I think overall it was a solid debut.

Banners saved our weekends with his clutch goal late in the last quarter!
20 disposal, 2 goal performance. Full credit to him. Actually want him to play wing as he’s tough as nails and can kick. He’s smart when he is composed

I thought Fyfe was incredible today

I'm not sure about Omera as sub. He fumbled and kicked a poster. Probably Erasmus to get more game time. Omera looks shot at the moment.

Even Simpson would be handy
Pretty pessimistic about that. What was the message there? JOM is 32, and a sub whilst been undone during pre season. Erasmus and Brodie are behind him, which I don’t see why.

Not really - for mine Young is a better big body than Johnson and better defensively in the centre. I would probably argue he is a better kick in congestion as well. Johnson was in the middle heaps last year and we were getting killed and was having little impact; we ended up moving him out for Young which coincided with us having some good games at the end of the season, and arguably the okay start we are having. That's not say he doesn't have moments in the centre like you mention, but they are few and far between and at the moment I reckon he is more influential on the outside.
Tend to agree. I know the stats aren't everything but to date he hasn't been a great clearance player. Maybe he needs an extended run inside.

Undoubtedly a real talent but not entirely sure how we develop him short term.

Slight side note but I swear he lined someone up with a hip and shoulder late in the match and was lucky (maybe sheezel?) sidestepped it. He is a big unit.
