And?
Marvel's their stadium.

It's being sent to Launceston to play Hawthorn and Alice Springs to play Melbourne that annoys me.
Who cares if I get Essendon or Carlton at Marvel.
Yeah but it'd be nice to change it up a bit, wouldn't it? Sure, Blues and Bombers gotta play X number of Marvel games per year, but it doesn't have to be against the same teams every year. They could play the Crows at the G and Eagles at Marvel one year, and then another couple years down the track flip that around, Eagles at G, Crows at Marvel, and so on.

Given we now have the gather round (meaning 6 double up games) should every team just play 2 double ups against last year's bottom 6, 2 against the middle 6 and 2 against the top 6?

Playing 6 games instead of 5 means you can dump the formula that advantages the bottom 6 > middle 6 > top 6 teams from the previous year.

I don't get why this wasn't the case this year. The aim of the draw should not be to give lower teams an easier draw the next year but to create a level playing field (as much as possible at least). That's more achievable now with the 6 double up games.

No. Teams near the bottom should get an easier draw than the ones near the top.

For goodness sakes, stop trying to use commonsense, you do know we are talking about the AFL.

No other sporting code in the world does that. We have plenty of other equalisation methods. The draw should be a even as possible.

Not that its ever a guarantee. We looked like having one of the easier draws this year and ended up playing 4 of the top 6 excluding us twice.

No other sport in the world has our scoring system. Most leagues in the world either have a conference system or play everyone home and away. Don't change one of the few things we do right.

The NFL does that for starters.

Yes, but regardless it still gives an easier fixture to bottom ranked sides in each division.
It's literally 2 games a season. The 2 teams who finished the same position as you in the two divisions in your conference that's not the division you're playing every team in. Not a big deal. And it's predictable as discussed, which is a huge tick.

Relax relax, Collingwood will still unveil their flag in their first game and Richmond v Carlton will be the first game of the season.

But sir their first games are in QLD!

No child, we’ve named that Round Zero.

But…

Hush! 0th game shall not count.

I know this isn't AFL but interesting the NRL returning serve by scheduling Storm v Panthers at AAMI Park on Friday March 8th the same weekend as round 0.

But but but wasn't round negative 10 meant to be on the weekend the NRL was in vegas, looks to me like NRL round 1 is on the same weekend as the AFL's attempted hijacking.

AFL might as well just abolish round whatever and just start as per normal the following weekend.

NRL is doing a split round 1.

2 fames in Vegas March 2nd there time 3rd our time. 6 games March 7th-10th

I reckon over this coming weekend we will get either or a combination of Round 0 / 1 / Gather round fixtures in the lead up to the 16th.
My expectations prior to the 16 November release:

Saturday PM/Sunday AM - round 0 and 1 release.

Monday / Tuesday - announcement for Gather Round fixtures.

Throughout next week I also expect the back water media outlets like NT, Hobart, Launceston and Canberra to reveal their local fixtures for the year. The clubs may also confirm their 'home' interstate fixtures such as GC in Darwin or Melbourne in Alice Springs.

Not quite. The NRL is normally in round 3 by the time the AFL season commences. The NRL are doing a split round with their Vegas round.

Bringing the Northern State AFL season openers forward by a week attempts to align it with when the second half of the NRL split round 1 games commence in Australia. Therefore, the AFL season opens in the northern states at the same time as the NRL split round games play in Australia.

The rest of what you're referring to is just run away commentary in the media, which has somehow managed to become so far removed from what's proposed that it has come across as the NRL Vegas and AFL opener occurring during the same weekend. :tearsofjoy:

Collingwood will still unveil their flag in their first game
Premiership teams have always unfurled the flag at there first home game not necessarily there first game. Collingwood's last flag unfurling happened in round 3 as there first home game was at docklands.
