Melbourne delisted Ferguson. 26 now I think, so maybe a touch too old for Knights, but I always thought he was underused at the dees. Might be worth a look though I'd prefer to take a chance on a young bloke when Mal finishes up.

While i am not going to defend Merrett as he is ordinary, i would rate him higher than John's

Having said that, they both do have some similarities.

Both have NO awareness

Both move like the QEII as soon as the ball deviates off a straight line

Both are very quick off the mark.

John's anticipation or judgement of the ball in flight as a defender is very ordinary.

Anyways my pledge should have been bookmarked by many now, and i will follow through if wrong.

Somehow i think i'm pretty safe.

I have not seen very much of DD at all, is he any chance to play FB, as i thought he was more of roaming CHB type?

I agree with Longy413, that Johns will be given every chance to become our next full back, his two asset's such as Merrett is speed off the mark and strength to compete one on one against the power forwards.

Time will tell.

Johns has got the makings of a very good full back.

Lets not forget guys like Glass and Rutten took a while to really hit their straps in that position.

You will see the best of CJ at full back in a few years time.

Lee is useless

He spent all of pre-season in a moon boot, the year before he looked promising because he had some miles in the legs. You maybe right 'tripper but i want to see how he's fared next year after a big pre-season before i judge his chances of becoming a decent footballer or not.

Charters >>>>>>>> Dick

Dick i'd rather have played as the 3rd Tall, ie. Harley

I'd say Chartres is already a good player at VFL and has a fair bit of upside left in him. Hard to speculate but I think he could be a really good player at AFL level.

I take it you've seen all of Johns' games.

I take it you got down to Bendigo and watched him actually play in defense?

If not, take your patronising lines and **** off.
Longy, do you think he could make it as a backman? Iv'e only seen 3-4 games of him playing back, and he looked good besides him having a lapse in concentration every now and again which gives away a few metres to his opponent, he also needs to lose some weight of his enormous frame because at time he can look quite immobile. His drive off half back looks good, his marking is good, with a bit of time down back to get used to things so he'll be able to read the play in the backline better and he will hopefully make it.

Hahaha Merrett is twice the player Johns is.

How many times have you seen him play? 3? 4?

He was ranked 4th in least goals conceeded by defenders in the comp, and has held down FB all year. He is a 10 year fullback thanks to Mal. :thumbsu:

Most improved player in the competition.

Merrett is junk. Johns is unfit.

...they're all hacks mate. You've got a long road ahead and with Matty Knights at the helm it will just mean longer

If this is the case, it would be nice if you can elaborate on a few things.

What is specifically wrong with Matthew Knights' tactics and plans for the future?

What is the problem with Gumbleton, Dempsey, Ryder, Jetta, Hislop, Reimers, Houli and Davey? Why won't they be good players? I'm particularly interested in your analysis of Kyle Reimers, go into extra detail on that one.

How are Matthew Lloyd, Scott Lucas, Mark McVeigh and Dustin Fletcher hacks?

Why won't Stanton, Winderlich, Lovett, Watson and Lovett-Murray improve? How are they hacks?

Well first off Knights couldnt coach Bendigo in the VFL so what makes you think he will be able to coach at AFL level?

Gumbleton - Forward. Jetta - Forward. Davey - Forward. Reimers - Forward.
Houli - Midfielder. Dempsey - Midfielder. Hislop - Midfielder.
Ryder the only defender.
You wanted a Full Back..... Johns being thrown up as a full back... your in a bit of strife if a battling tall forward is your next full back.
And as for Lloyd, Lucas, McVeigh and Fletcher.... only McVeigh will be there when you are challenging for a flag.
And the improvement......
Lovett-Murray - Good player.
Stanton - Good player.
Winderlich - Got pace but nothing else.
Watson - HACK.
Lovett - A poor man's Aaron Davey.

Wrong. He made finals twice with a poor list, don't tell me an idiot is gonna show himself up again

Reimers - Forward.

wrong

Winderlich - Got pace but nothing else.

Wrong. He is a beautiful kick, can find his own footy and can slot some goals

Watson - HACK.

Wrong. Important clearence player with improved skills.

Lovett - A poor man's Aaron Davey.

is that the best you can come up with, tip, watch some games, get some knowledge of the game you are 'trying' to discuss and try again later

Our youngsters kill yours.....
McLean, Jones, Sylvia, Petterd, Bartram, Bate, Dunn, Rivers, Bell.

You finished where?

It's easy to say they're crap but not everyone is a trolling w***er, every single team can roll of young players names and say they kick ass, you're making yourself look stupid

as if Watson isnt a hack... he gets a lot of it yes but does nothing. The opposition dont mind him picking up his 30 possessions because he won't hurt you in the long run.

And Reimers is more of a half forward than a midfielder.

In the last two years its Melbourne have four (Bartram, Bate, Petterd and Jones (x2)) Rising Star Nominess to Essendons one (Ryder).

You didn't answer one question I asked.

I asked:
What is specifically wrong with Matthew Knights' tactics and plans for the future?

You answered:
Well first off Knights couldnt coach Bendigo in the VFL so what makes you think he will be able to coach at AFL level?

That has nothing to do with Knights's plans and tactics. I had no question in regard to what he did with Bendigo, which, incidentally, was reasonable given the lack of quality VFL players down there.

I asked:
What is the problem with Gumbleton, Dempsey, Ryder, Jetta, Hislop, Reimers, Houli and Davey? Why won't they be good players? I'm particularly interested in your analysis of Kyle Reimers, go into extra detail on that one.

Where did I ask for their positions?

You answered:

Where did I ask about the longetivity of their careers?

I asked:
Why won't Stanton, Winderlich, Lovett, Watson and Lovett-Murray improve? How are they hacks?

You answered:
Lovett-Murray - Good player.
Stanton - Good player.
Winderlich - Got pace but nothing else.
Watson - HACK.
Lovett - A poor man's Aaron Davey.

I asked you why these guys are hacks, the only player that you went beyond that on was Winderlich who has plenty more than just pace. Ball gettign ability, good skills and good tackling to name a few of those qualities.

I really would've hated to have seen your English essays at school.

'In the book, why do characters betray each other?'

Response: 'The characters enjoy eating ice creams'

as if Watson isnt a hack... he gets a lot of it yes but does nothing. The opposition dont mind him picking up his 30 possessions because he won't hurt you in the long run.

as if...how old are you? Watson gets a done of clearances thus leading to us having scoring chances and has improved his skills 10 fold, not to mention Knights emphasis on more skill training, he'll be even better under Knights, but you knew that

And Reimers is more of a half forward than a midfielder.

He's played how many games? He's capable of playing HFF, HBF and will eventually be part of the midfield

Haha yeah, rising star nominations are the be all and end all of rating youngsters, not gonna bag Melbourne's because I don't watch them every week, but we're pretty happy with our's thanks.

I'd also put some money on us having at least two this year.

Don't get on your high horse. The comparison was to do with what Merret was 12 months ago.

I agree mate, one team may have more promising youngsters but all of them aren't going to be recognised under a one player per round system.

Also Will Thursfield got nominated in round 22 this year after getting 11 disposals, six marks and Fraser Gehrig kicking 5 on him:eek:
