It seems a bit odd that the contract details have come out... you don't often get the finer details made public especially before a player has signed on the dotted line. I wonder who is playing who here. Trott or the Lions?
I think it's pretty clear this came from the manager

I know it is a big if at this stage, but if Schache re-signs, the Victorian AFL media will surely express disappointment on behalf of the Victorian clubs at Schache not moving.

I feel like a lot of the media is starting to outright pity us (but not so much that they think we deserve an early priority pick), so if he does re-sign I'd imagine there'd be lots of almost condescending, 'good on them' sort of comments. Can't deny it will be a big moment for the club and those supporters who need some optimism for the future.

Always hard to judge from the outside but seems like Schache might be genuinely attached to the club for maybe the friends he's made or sentimental reasons, but is torn due to having such good offers on the table and the whole thing has taken a toll. System needs to be fixed so kids aren't put in that position so early, and of course the clubs that drafted them. 2 years would be good. Gives him a chance to see the direction the club is heading and if at the end of those 4 years he does decide to move I suppose he can feel as if he did put in enough time to pay back the club. Plus he'll still be making good money.

God, I've gone and got my hopes up again.

I wonder if Brisbane have offered him this below market value offer as a compromise for more consistent trips home affecting his availability for training etc

It could be a smart move. Maybe they think Shcache is not that good, Tigers will pay up a first and maybe more, and they can get better kids in the draft? Pies are out of the race, but we've shown interest and will probably have our first before Richmonds at this stage. It'd be nice if we could get our revenge and force the Tiges to have to up their ante for Schache. Good luck to your trade period I know it means a helluva lot to your supporters on here. :thumbsu:

Alrighty, so...

What's your initial asking price?

*No Daniel Rioli's included.

In all seriousness if Shak wants to leave and nominates Richmond then the Lions need to play hard ball from the onset. I would ask for Rioli. Tigers will of course say no. Then the Lions say its Rioli or a top ten pick and another pick. Away we go.

A lot of talk at present about next years draft being a super draft. Is it possible we have offered Josh a contract for one year and said to him see how you feel in 12 months and see how you think you're progressing and the club is progressing. If in 12 months he decides to leave do we utilise his trade to better use in a draft that could have a lot more quality?

Schache would be worth significantly more than Rioli on his own. Small forward at pick 15 in the same draft. No thanks.

Did they say he was to play back in the reserves? I thought they were talking about playing back in the seniors.

I'd be surprised if they threw him to the wolves and played him down back in the seniors before giving him at least a games worth of experience there in the reserves.

In one of the articles it said he would be playing in the ressies. As below:

http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/bri...e/news-story/1be11a37bb71361010bea50e33e7cfce

Last Sunday, Brisbane coach Chris Fagan told AFL Today that the Lions would be reluctant to play Schache in the seniors if they knew he was leaving. Schache has been playing in the NEAFL, where he will resume this weekend and might be trialled at centre half-back.

If this gets done it would be an enormous signing. Not simply because he's a pick 2 with one foot out the door already and we've struggled to keep this kind of player in the past. But more importantly, we haven't caved into a ridiculous managers contract demands. Stood firm, offered what he's worth and not been terrified of play the "so walk if you don't like it" card.

This combined with the Green contract would really start to set a precedent to other managers. Let's them know that the times-they-are-a-changing up in QLD. The days of expecting more $$ from your client simply because Brisbane are too scared to lose players would (hopefully) be nearing an end. The era of the FagNob.

Where is all this talk of next years draft possibly being a super draft? I've a read a little about net year, but it seems like most writers are trying to keep a lid on it and I haven't read anyone referring to it as a super draft.

I was thinking along the same lines yesterday. Re-sign Schache to a two or three year contract, and if he still wants to go, it increases our bargaining position.

For Schahce's sake, I would prefer him to be traded if he is staying because he feels guilty about letting the Lions down if he were to leave. I do not know if he could perform adequately if his heart and mind was in conflict somewhat.

How about your club develops its own young players and stops heaping undue psychological pressure on a kid that is clearly struggling to deal with it. In exchange you can keep some self-respect?

Seems like a fair trade from my perspective.

Here is the interesting question.

What will Sam McClure turn around and say if we keep him seeing he said Schache was gone.

Same thing when he said Chris Fagan wasn't going to be our new coach and that John Barker would get the job.

"It was true at the time".

"You can't prove I was knowingly lying."
