Ah **** I’ve been reeled back in, still hope on the Bevo out train! It just needs to flipping happen doesn’t it? Madness to go in to next year with him.

Also how ****ing stupid of Darcy and Grant and everyone to come out and back Bevo but in the same sentence say we’re conducting a review. What’s the review on then if you’ve already declared Bev is safe? Bunch of ******* campaigners, **** me now I’m pissed off again, they’re all a ****ing joke to be completely honest I want Darcy, Grant & KWW gone, Bains can stay… for now. Don’t want those 3 to have anything to do with this club any further.

If they are conducting a ‘review’ currently, and the findings are not great for Bevo - he’s got to go

Based on his actual on field output it was the right move. Roughie was completely cooked and remarkably got his body right for Collingwood which I was rapt to see. His value off field is obviously super high so it does suck he isn’t around in our colours.
That is kinda contradictory because if that was the case it wasn’t a wise decision because his body wasn’t quite right, a better program got it right. We then lost not only a premiership hero but a wise mentor and a good player. A triple loss because of coach that didn’t like being challenged.

I'm with you on all things Bevo. But it just won't happen. Darcy is high up in the Bevo cult.

Just look forward to next season when he reintroduces backing off the man on the mark.
Playing Macrea & Smith off the half back flank( everybody else gets a run through there).
Playing Sweet at CHB for 2 games and then dropping him for the rest of the year etc etc

Most I'm hoping for is Bevo having a crack at Barrett, Corns, Wilson and Morris.

From a players friend. Will not name.

Wouldn't the only exit interviews done yesterday have been the players still playing VFL. The majority of the list would have been done two wees ago.

After all the reviews etc are we really going to sack him because Crozier or Buku etc aren't happy?

I think one of the most disappointing parts of Bev and the current boards tenure is our off field cultural setups. The fact we kicked guys like Moyd, Wallis and Roughead out (some early, some pretty timely - just so their is no suggestion I am necessarily saying they could have kept going on field) and didn’t find a way to keep them involved in our club in some way is pretty striking.

All were very significant in terms of our off field player development and cultural identity and almost all of them are now completely disillusioned with the club or just simply on bad terms. That isn’t normal.
Of the 3 players you mentioned Moyd clearly went on a year too long, if anything we did right by him and gave him an extra year.
A few unlucky injuries and an overall shocking premiership hangover club wide made his final year a crappy one on field. Not giving Wallis another contract was also shown to be the right move, he had zero interest from any other club. Now I don't know about promises made to him regarding said contract but that is all he said/she said. As for Roughy see below.

By the end Bev had pigeonholed him as a ruck only, at a time we could have used another tall defender. Moved clubs and is a solid tall defender for another 3 years. When you consider the next year (2019) we chopped and changed with Cordy, Trengove and Young as tall defenders before in 2020 picking up Keath and only playing Trengove and Young 2 games combined, it comes across very messy. One minute players are in favour, the next minute they're banished. I can see why some players would feel miffed or burned by that.

That is kinda contradictory because if that was the case it wasn’t a wise decision because his body wasn’t quite right, a better program got it right. We then lost not only a premiership hero but a wise mentor and a good player. A triple loss because of coach that didn’t like being challenged.
I may have forgotten but again Roughy for mine was absolutely gone physically, there is a reason we only got pick 75 for him. The Pies smartly decided he could slot in as a roaming loose back because they had Moore and Howe to hold down key posts with Maynard, Crisp and Aish supporting as the medium/small defenders. We had no such luxury, our back 6 in round 1 of 2019 was Duryea, Cordy, Crozier, Caleb, Wood and Suckling. Yikes!

That being said none of this absolves Bevo from his overall stubbornness.

Yep

I wonder if we’re into Ratten at all.

Current assistants from clubs still in finals:

Adam Yze
Troy Chaplin
Greg Stafford
Mark williams
Aaron Hamill
Tim Clarke
Ash Hansen
Luke power
Torin Baker
Brad Ebert
Tom Lonergan
Nathan Bassett
Josh carr (won’t leave)
Chad Cornes
Luke Kelly
Hamish Hartlett
Matthew Lobbe
Brett Montgomery (wouldn’t come back)
Ben hart
Craig Jennings
Jeremy Laidler
Shame Mumford
Scott Borlace
Mark stone
Jed Adcock
Cam Bruce
Murray Davis
Dale morris
Brendan bolton
Hayden skipworth
Justin Leppitsch
Scott Selwood
Neville Jetta
Andy Otten

We’ll see how we go after finals but why would good assistants want to come here?

At the end of ‘21 when we played off in a grandfinal and still had the makings of a young potential multi premiership team and the best we could do was Spangher & Webb. Now we’re in a mini crisis it’s not going to be any better

Maybe the club will realise the problem at some point, we’ll see
If you’re a good assistant and even one that’s maybe failed a few times at the final interview phase of a senior gig, they should be booting down the door to come.

While ideally they’ll contribute to a whole new approach and rise back up the ladder, a very slow first half of the year & Bevo is gone.

Surely good assistants are seeing this as a chance to either work with a decent list, or completely take over the reins of one.

Roughead played 12 games his last year with us, including the last 7 games of the season. He wasn’t cooked when he left.

Roughead had this to say in his first year at Collingwood:

“I feel like there’s a bit of a weight off my shoulders because I think in the most part I’m coached to my strengths and I know I’ve got areas in my game I need to work on, but they’re not made the focus point of the way I review my game,” Roughead says.

“It’s about what I did well, what I can still do better, but being told to do more of the same.”

When Roughie left he said in an interview with The Age that there were only so many times you could listen to Bev’s stories , or words to that effect .

He walked into Buckley’s club culture , not McRae’s . From the sounds of it , that wasn’t a great place to be .

I don't recall that or any words to that effect and I read everything Bulldogs. If you can find a link I'd like to read it.

In fairness Roughie couldn’t get on the park late in his tenure for us. It felt like a very mutual divorce

I don’t care much for the rumours because they tend to come from the negative feedback and not the positive which is natural.

I am starting to feel frustrated with the club for extending Bevo if there was the possibility for this level of uncertainty. It is starting to look like our club needs a new vision. New administrators too tbf. I have little faith in the club atm

Only quote I could find was:

“I was just looking for a club I could come to and try to get the best out of myself as a person and a footballer. I'm on the back end of my football career – I am 29 this year so when I say back end hopefully I have got a fair bit left but the back half anyway,” he said.

“I felt like I still have a bit to offer a new club and was looking for a place where I can fall back in love with footy and enjoy the game and the opportunities it brings as well.”

They’re probably realising how hard it is to replace assistants when no body wants to work with him 😂

Realistically we’ve now got less than a month to sort this out with either a new head coach (not gonna happen) or at least have made progress with the experienced assistant hunt - as going into trade week with the stability of a club with just Bevo, Lade & Spangher signed for next year is just asking for trouble.

What a mess, why would any one considering leaving stay or anyone choose to come here

The players have overwhelmingly backed the coach in, so there is no way the club is letting Bevo go on that fact alone. The club is providing more assistance to Bevo in the form of new assistant coaches. No point being bitter all year about it. Lets just hope the new assistant can take some of the stubbornness out of him. We need personal changes just as much as coaches. Not one decent onballer coming through the reserves. Garcia and West are role players not future "A graders". Our list should have made the finals, we lost too many close games, but there are also clear weaknesses in that list.

To be honest it's time for this thread to be put to bed. Looking forward to the trade and draft period this year.

I'd imagine that as we've started some delistings that player interviews are underway now

We literally took Moyd out of the centre square to extend his career. I'm not sure he counts as being kicked out.

I'd love him back at the club. Unfortunately he signed an extension at Freo, they love him there too

Trengove was a Free agent signing
I think quite a few of us would have preferred to keep Rougie and pass on Trengove. Good guy, but so was Rougie
