Just like this board and all of our very well regarded ex assistants.

Nobody has any idea about what assistant coaches do or how they do it. There are just certain names people have decided are good and everyone else means we're doing nothing.

I just had a read and the comments aren’t even bad. He’s been there for 8 years, been a part of some successful teams that haven’t been able to get the job done in September.

Port fans would be antsy about their coaching team as a whole just as we are due to the recent lack of success.

We can tell if they are the ones running ‘match day’ up in the box, whilst head coach is down on the bench.

Match day is only a small part of the coaching role and even then dependent on many different people and factors.

Since when are Port an underperforming team? No one had them finishing top 4 this season.

They have a very questionable finals record but I doubt that’s due to one assistant coach.

Far out, with some of the negativity here you’d think unless we pick up the last three senior premiership coaches our offseason is a failure. Let’s just let some of it play out. Judging any assistant coaches externally is the most uninformed thing we can do.

They have a very questionable finals record but I doubt that’s due to one assistant coach.

They’ve been underperforming for the majority of his time there and their backline is absolutely terrible - admittedly that’s probably more on personnel.

But yes they have done well to make top 4, either way if he’s really been sacked/pushed from an average side it’s not exactly a big win for us to clean up the scraps.

Fair, underperforming probably isn’t the right way to describe them.

I actually like the sound of Bassett, specialist defence coach & experienced at AFL level, has coached state league successfully etc - just pointing out though that he was pushed from Port which is a bit weird, most good assistants are poached not sacked.

Feels a bit like Smith for us, long term experienced coach, has been there when we’re successful but no other team will want him for whatever reason

Nah they sounded me out via Bigfooty DMs, they must have got word of my obvious superior knowledge around here.

Pay was crap & you have to write a daily report to Bevo stating what you did, ate, who you talked to etc every single day. You also have to get permission from him to use the dunny.

So I turned it down & will keep my services free of charge on here, for now

He was our second choice when Bevo got the job.

It makes complete sense that we’d be making announcements after the best and fairest and after the grand final to have any positive news see a bit of clear air.

I do sincerely hope that we’ve at least locked in a couple of coaches already and aren’t still in the interviewing stages though.

It’s interesting that the engine room has got Port humming since Ken moved down to the bench. Obviously a bit of that is apparently attributed to Josh Carr

They also have no KPDs... I guess he'd be the most suited candidate for our defensive set up on the planet!

Our transition from defence was about 16th in the comp. We need a lot of work back there.

Peter Rhode coached Norwood to a flag too? Hopefully Bassett is better than him.

Port defense did alright this season considering. Bergman was a good find moving from wing to a pseudo key defender and held up well. Lachie Jones did well too, another often asked to play tall.

They were too reliant Aliir and I don’t think he never really regained top form after his concussion. They looked very vulnerable without him at top form and it’s no surprise they are chasing Ratugolea and Zerk-Thatcher.
