Surely we didn’t give him more than a 2yr deal at the end of ‘21?

I actually don’t mind Spangher for a development role anyway tbh, usually journeymen types make the best coaches and he seems like a pretty switched on guy and good communicator. He should have been given a development role in the first place, was crazy to give him the keys to a young forward line coming off a GF appearance, but anyway.
Was likely given the role because of short notice and needing to get the pre-season rolling. He'll probably make a good development coach so there's no point getting rid him of if he can still provide something.

Not sure why you would make Dew a line coach and not thr senior assistant

Senior Assistant is already Lade unless he's willing to accept a restructure

Plus Senior Assistant covers all lines, so would be a dual role

If you want to be the best forward in the game or the best team in the competition these are the sacrifices you have to make. If other teams/players are doing it you will fall behind.

If I'm running a business and I want beat out the competition you have to work 60-70 hour weeks. If I'm content with just working 40hr weeks, that also means that I'm content with running a mediocre business. Right now our football club is mediocre.

Ed Richards was back doing the hard yards before others a couple of years ago - has paid off in spades for him.

Don’t think you usually have a standalone ‘senior assistant’ these days, usually they’re a senior assistant/line coach ie Lade is senior assistant looking after midfield and previously King was senior assistant and midfield.

They’re just titles at the end of the day, similar to Pies with Bolton & Leppitsch being senior assistants but also looking after backline/forward line

Bont and Dunkley in the US too. But at the same time Libba smashing beers and tonnes in Vietnam, yet has played and recovered at superhuman levels.
Needing a break is real for most humans and should be encouraged imo. At least a few weeks.

The lines between forward/back/mid are so blurred these days, your forwards need to defend and your defenders need to attack.

Personally if I was setting up a coaching panel I’d throw the line coach concept out the window and structure it like this:

Head coach
Senior Assistant
Offensive transition coach - looking after all offensive play from defence to forward line.
Defensive coach - looking at full ground defence from your small forwards to full back.
Stoppages & set plays coach

Then development coaches in more specific roles ie one on one defensive craft, forward craft/leading patterns, ruckcraft

This way the whole group rotates through your coaches a bit more ie the offensive coach will spend time with all 3 ‘groups’ etc

Just makes sense in the modern game and I think a few clubs are going this way

That's a left field idea, I like it.

Could do worse. You really just need someone to be firm, decisive and make the tough calls. Grant seems too matey with the current crew to do that and only when things came to a head was he willing to act and do something which was really just a token move (letting go of Rohan Smith)

So, looks like Bevo will stay on next year. Weightmans post game comments last week, and Treloars comments today where he said the players love Bevo, and are not happy with all the noise of people trying to drive him out. Seems like the players are comfortable with his ways.

So it moves onto the next question. Will the club finally invest in proper experienced line coaches, as well as a kicking/skills coach? Pretty happy to hear that so far it appears to be the case for the first part. If we get Dew as a forwards coach, I am interested to know who the other big name or names are. Hopefully it is settled well ahead of preseason.

Dew connection is real he just wants big money which we’re hesitant to pay
Thing is, if Dew comes back into coaching, someone is going to pay that money. I don't see the point in us being tight arsed about it. If it's what we need and is successful, it will pay for itself. That's the risk and reward of it. Doesn't sound like we're destitute anyway.

To be fair wasn’t MD involved at one of those clubs in some way?
No he wasn't.

Scotland had a lot of issues at Sunshine and you will not hear any support from there. He was also at Darley where there were a few issues and is coaching Deer Park in the second division of the EDFL. Would not want him as an assistant

Based on the views of most here, Spangher seems to need more than just 2 years of development 🤣
