FORMER Port Adelaide assistant Luke Kelly is speaking with Melbourne clubs about filling one of the last remaining coaching vacancies for 2025 as clubs look to finalise their off-field structures.
His coaching experience at the top level stretches back to a stint at the Western Bulldogs, where he was a football analyst during the 2016 premiership season before moving to Greater Western Sydney for five years, which included a season as VFL coach.

Might be a name to check in on later

Massive loss. Maddocks is a gun
He's always seemed okay but he's been there since 2015, the entirety of Bevo's tenure so you would suggest that he might be one of the 'yes men'.

Nonetheless fresh voices and a change can sometimes be a good thing. It will give us an opportunity to bring a new development role in.

A bit late to be looking for replacements. Is there anyone in the wings who could fill the role?

Or does this provide an opportunity for Spangher to move sideways?

Good to get some new voices.

Club really rates Alex Johnson and Geary so they may get a promotion

Brendan Bolton goes from Pies to Saints

Ex- Coach joins Ross Lyon.

Again love to know our football department spend compared top other clubs.

Seems other clubs beef up well Lions get Dew, Saints get Bolton

Didn't one of our new assistant coaches that came in this year win Assistant Coach of the Year?

Yeah, it's not as if our range of assistants or development coaches are self-evidently poor choices because they're drifting out of the industry as the next batch of retired players comes through.

And what has that got to do with what we spend compared to other clubs?

Seems some clubs can afford ex coaches and other football department people and seem to with in the soft cap

We picked up experienced assistant coaches last year. Former senior coaches going back to an assistants role don't get paid more

Sorry a former senior coaches asking price is most likely more than an experienced assistant coach.

Not sure who you are referring to as we picked up experienced assistant coaches last year? Pratt replaced Smith

Lade and Spangher were not new

The object of the exercise is to get the best coaches, not spend the most money.

So the debate should be mainly about who has the best coaches. Being a former unsuccessful coach doesn't automatically make Bolton a better coach than say Geary, Pratt, Johnson etc.

To be honest I don't know how ours rank against other clubs (except for the award that Pratt got). But if we can get top quality coaches and pay less than other clubs do then I'd say that's a very well managed club.

Agree with you 100%

Just seems to me that some clubs seemed beefed up with game plan and game day etc etc
