So I guess we now await the LNP response. Still might be another twist
I expect they won't change the decision and just criticise labor for the situation. Frankly not an unreasonable strategy!

This was my view as well. Either go big or go home, the best possible solution or hand back the games. And we've ended up with an outcome that gives the Lions no benefit whatsoever. At least there's the possibility of adding more public transport to an area that doesn't have much of it, but this wasn't the best outcome. From the brief reading I've done, obviously Vic park is the superior option to redeveloping the Gabba, and obviously superior for the club.
Personally I'd rather Brisbane had never bid on the Olympics and I can understand why some people are against any significant redevelopment altogether. But what's done is done, may as well end up with something good out of it.
I feel like he'd put himself in a no-win situation, either he accepted the outcome with a huge public backlash, or he picks this outcome with a huge public backlash. Really we shouldn't have bid for the Olympics at all.Lol, enjoy the centrelink queue after October Steven Miles.

I surmise that Grace was vocally against Vic Park in the party room, because she knows her local community don't like it, she's under threat from the Greens, and the Greens were against a Vic Park stadium. She's powerful and probably threw her weight around.Whose state seat does Victoria Park cover?

I get the feeling he would agree with your last sentence.I feel like he'd put himself in a no-win situation, either he accepted the outcome with a huge public backlash, or he picks this outcome with a huge public backlash. Really we shouldn't have bid for the Olympics at all.
Victoria Park Stadium - Estimated $3.4 Billion
QSAC Upgrade - $1.6 Billion
Gabba maintenance now needed to keep it going post 2032 - $1 Billion
Suncorp Stadium upgrade - unknown but easily $1 Billion to go from 52,500 to 65,000
Total cost: $3.6 Billion+
This is the most brain dead decision I’ve seen that costs the state even more money with no new oval stadium.

Probably going to be the worst Olympics since Athens.Well there you go, it's confirmed - Brisbane is a small city run by small minded people. No ambition, no vision. We might do the Olympics on the cheap, but we'll be paying for it forever.

Then he should do a Dan Andrews and give the Olympics back. It might actually make him more popular.I get the feeling he would agree with your last sentence.
Gabba redevelopment started in 1993, well before Beattie.I blame that f...wit Beatty , didn't he have the Gabba rebuilt in the first place , dead set and that f...wit is still in our face with all those stuff ups.
That's better.
Can't they reuse that as an Olympic village ???At least QSAC will get more use in 2 weeks than the Wellcamp quarantine facility he wasted hundreds of millions on
Miles instead threw his support behind a cheaper plan presented by Olympics boss John Coates, who recommended using existing infrastructure; Suncorp Stadium for the opening and closing ceremonies and the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre (QSAC) in Nathan for athletics. QSAC hosted the Commonwealth Games in 1982.I don’t agree with that recommendation. When Queenslanders are struggling with other costs I cannot justify spending $3.4bn on a new stadium.
I’m ruling that out.
