From the brief reading I've done, obviously Vic park is the superior option to redeveloping the Gabba, and obviously superior for the club.

Personally I'd rather Brisbane had never bid on the Olympics and I can understand why some people are against any significant redevelopment altogether. But what's done is done, may as well end up with something good out of it.
This was my view as well. Either go big or go home, the best possible solution or hand back the games. And we've ended up with an outcome that gives the Lions no benefit whatsoever. At least there's the possibility of adding more public transport to an area that doesn't have much of it, but this wasn't the best outcome.

Miles Strategy is basically which one of these requires me to spend the least money so I can say I’ll spend it on Education! Health! Crime!

They might vote for me!

I feel like he'd put himself in a no-win situation, either he accepted the outcome with a huge public backlash, or he picks this outcome with a huge public backlash. Really we shouldn't have bid for the Olympics at all.

No one should bid for the olympics. At least for Sydney 2000 Australia was in the middle of a mining boom I suppose, but not sure Syd got bang for buck out of homebush.

Victoria Park Stadium - Estimated $3.4 Billion

QSAC Upgrade - $1.6 Billion
Gabba maintenance now needed to keep it going post 2032 - $1 Billion
Suncorp Stadium upgrade - unknown but easily $1 Billion to go from 52,500 to 65,000
Total cost: $3.6 Billion+

This is the most brain dead decision I’ve seen that costs the state even more money with no new oval stadium.

Regarding Brisbane Arena.
Below their preferred site.
Only 8 years to go.

What about all this moolar that we are supposedly getting from IOC , looks like a lot is going down the dunny, just to put a temporary show on.
What happens when the Gabba inevitably needs to be rebuilt, lol.
Lets hope there is still traction for Vic pk.
ok time to vent.
I blame that f...wit Beatty , didn't he have the Gabba rebuilt in the first place , dead set and that f...wit is still in our face with all those stuff ups.
That's better.

Coates and rugby league win. The city of Brisbane, the lions, cricket and afl lose.

I'd be posting this everywhere you can mate.

Well there you go, it's confirmed - Brisbane is a small city run by small minded people. No ambition, no vision. We might do the Olympics on the cheap, but we'll be paying for it forever.
Probably going to be the worst Olympics since Athens.
Coming after Paris and LA, who will show off their redevelopments and futuristic stadiums.
Suncorp is the host stadium? Rugby clear runs the state then

Also factor in the dead money involved in the QSAC upgrade.

Benefits for Rugby, QSAC. Horrible decision.
Gabba is a derelict stadium by 2032.

Have no idea but nothing surprises me in politics.
Not enough information though.

Steven Miles rejects independent review recommending new $3.4bn Brisbane stadium

Andrew Messenger

Andrew Messenger
Queensland premier Steven Miles has sensationally rejected the recommendations of an independent review, declaring “Suncorp stadium will become our Olympic stadium”.

Former Liberal lord mayor Graham Quirk – who conducted the review of Brisbane’s billions in planned games infrastructure – recommended the centrepiece $2.7bn Gabba project be scrapped. But he instead suggested an even more expensive alternative: a $3.4bn new stadium in inner-city Victoria Park. Miles:

I don’t agree with that recommendation. When Queenslanders are struggling with other costs I cannot justify spending $3.4bn on a new stadium.
I’m ruling that out.
Miles instead threw his support behind a cheaper plan presented by Olympics boss John Coates, who recommended using existing infrastructure; Suncorp Stadium for the opening and closing ceremonies and the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre (QSAC) in Nathan for athletics. QSAC hosted the Commonwealth Games in 1982.
