Don't forget that Miles is blaming John Coates for this mess... therefore the IOC.

To me the only way that this gets sorted is the weight of public opinion. What it will take is someone who will spell out the stupidity of wasting 3+ billion on nothing or spending 3+ billion and getting forever infrastructure in a way that people will understand.

Then ALL of the pollies will listen.
Backlash is building...!!

What's the bet Miles goes on a holiday soon?!

Yep we need the media to fully realise that this new plan costs even more than a brand new stadium and that they are no cost savings, and to get the broader general public to understand that too.

That plus some strong leadership from someone, and/or a resignation push on Miles, will get this overturned in my view.

So 2 billion for the stadium itself.
Add on the cost of wider pedestrian prominades over the Icb (wider than what would be required if it was just a giant park- Schriner plan), that would be required.
Additional costs for capability for logistics that are required for the operation of the Stadium.
Connections to transport hubs: Bus terminal and train stations.
There are obviously other costs related to the stadium operations , add them on and do you get 3.4 billion or is the cost of the rest of the park reforestation, wetland area , Tree House etc incorporated in this cost as well.
I hope it's not.

Still, the fact that Schriner has come out and said he would be on board with this project if the price was right is still a positive and a flicker of a flame that can be stoked up.
Ok answering my own post.
Just had a look at Schriners Vic park transformation Plan , obviously had no Stadium in the scope.
The plan had an estimated cost of 141 million.
Like I said is this cost in the 3.4 billion , if so then in reality the associated costs for the Stadium would be around 3.26Billion.
I would love to know the answer.

What’s really needed is for current and ex Olympians to come out panning the current proposals, starting with Kieran Perkins, Ian Thorpe and Cathy Freeman.

Perkins is an ALP lapdog in a government job, he ain't saying anything. Thorpie might say something and Cathy sadly just ain't that smart

You've had Leisel Jones, John Millman and now Cate Campbell come out against Miles plans

Quirk in the report listed the Vic Park Stadium Precinct as $3.0-$3.4 Billion. He also commented on radio that in that figure, that stadium would be likely just under or around $2B, AND that he built in a cost increase buffer to that figure (he would have done this so his report wouldn’t be blamed in the future for undercutting the price, which while responsible, has led to people thinking it’ll cost even more).

My assumption is that the cost increase buffer would be the 400M difference in the price tag, so roughly I think the breakdown would be:
Vic Park Stadium - $2B
Vic Park Stadium Precinct with connective pathways, bridges and other upgrades - $1B
Cost Increase Buffer - $400M

Whether that precinct cost includes the entire park or just say the area closer to the stadium I’m unsure.

Schrinner popping his head up this morning saying he rejects the QSAC option and would support the Victoria Park option if the overall cost of it could be reduced some way

I think this is part of the attitude that got us here in the first place. The current Gabba isn’t making it long past 2032, a new stadium will be needed and it’ll only get more expensive in the future. You could even forget the games, a rebuilt Gabba or new Vic Park stadium is something that’s going to be needed in a decade anyway. Worrying about costs is what leads to nothing ever happening.

Oh man, she is going to get raked over the coals internally for that.

She's just revealed the exhaust port in Miles's Death Star.

A very, very helpful political clanger.

And now apparently that Liveris guy has spoken at a Sports Conference in Melbourne this morning saying that no final decision about venues has been made and when/if a decision is made they will have to provide a long-term legacy

edit add stuff -

Brisbane Olympics President Andrew Liveris has told a sports conference in Melbourne on Wednesday morning, that the final decision about sports venues has yet to be made, contradicting the statement by QLD Premier Steven Miles on Monday when he announced that QSAC Stadium would be the main athletics stadium. “Recommendations from it are being assessed for their appropriateness and decisions will be made with full consultation of our Organising Committee and the IOC and AOC, and provide a path forward for the Australian and Queensland governments to decide on,” he said. He also added that venues should provide a long-term legacy and the public would see new venues make sense for a legacy contribution rather than renovating older ones incapable of providing a legacy.

The funny thing is, I thought Miles had slowly been making progress in the lead up the election. And he has just detonated it all over stadiums and the Olympics.

Irrespective of whether you follow sports or care about stadiums, this has made him look incompetent.

Just need a high profile Athlete from another country to come out and also condemn the QSAC plan.
John Coates is the mastermind behind all of this so as far as I am concerned he needs to be given the flick as well.
