My opinion would be not to travel all over Australia for home games. We need a home in Brisbane and make it our fortress as much like we have the Gabba now. Dis-advantage would be having significantly less members being able to attend but i dont see how we get around that no matter what the decision might be. At present the club wants a stadium to hold 20,000 for home games...thats the real challenge right now.
At least playing some blockbuster home games at the MCG will allow our Victorian member base to enjoy what they have been missing for a long time now. Lets hope they all get on board with membership if we end up playing more games in Melbourne. I am sure we will need every member we can get along with some sort of financial assistance from the AFL while all this goes on.
Agree, we definitely need a home base here in Brisbane, terrible idea to travel all over regional Qld for home games IMO.

I would be happy with 9 home games at the RNA/Springfield and 2 "home" games at the MCG against the likes of Pies/Blues/Demons/Bombers/Hawks. On top of that it would be great to get an agreement in place that once the new Gabba was available the clubs we played against in home games at the MCG agreed to play a home game at the Gabba in 2030-31.

Good excuse for an extra footy trip to Melbourne while the Gabba is out of action:D.

In terms of the biggest home ground advantage it would have to be BHA. Players are there most days and would probably prefer to play at the venue too

The Queensland Government mentioned that the successful tender/builder/architect for The Gabba rebuild will be announced in the 2nd half of 2023.
The last six sitting days for the 2023 Qld. Parliament is 14/15/16th November then 28/29/30th November 2023.

You would think they would announce where AFL and Cricket are playing before The Gabba rebuild announcement.

Fully expecting to be a 3 game member at best during those Gabba rebuild years. Doesn’t worry me too much tbh. I’ll be nearly retired by the time of the Olympics so looking into Gabba membership now so that I secure a seat to waste my older years post rebuild. More than where the team plays and how we get there each week think the club has a bigger issue in trying to keep competitive during those years. We’ll be heading into nomad territory while turning over a coach, CEO, president and much of the current list. Potential to be tough times

I’ll hopefully keep up my full season membership as a donation to the club. At best I get to 50% of games a season anyway.

Currently listening to the latest Roar Deal, Fish and Dom seem pretty confident our new home ground will be the RNA.... and announced before the end of the month.
As a non-Queenslander myself, I assume it’s a positive but what sort of capacity would it be able to hold and what’s distance to and from transport and surroundings, especially for night matches?

Easily the most convenient to the city. There's a train station right there, buses past it, and walkable.

Capacity... well it depends on what upgrades are made to it. In theory it's got seating for about 20k, according to them, but wouldn't really meet what's expected of an AFL ground these days.

Train station right there, major roads, only a couple of kilometres from the CBD, a lot better access than Springfield... IIRC the mooted capacity is circa 20,000.

We have heard reports going back months that an announcement will be made in the next few weeks.
Nothing has happened so this end of the month (another 2 weeks) is just a guess. But they will be closer this time around.
Hopefully they are correct time will tell.

As i mentioned above The Gabba rebuild announcement will have to be by the end of November if the Government is to be taken by their word.
I doubt they want to delay the announcement into next year being an election year.
Going on year 2023 the first sitting date was not until 21st February. That is way too late when the election will be in October.
The Government does not need to announce it during a sitting period but i would be very surprised if it was not announced by the 14th or 28th of November being the start dates of the last 6 days sitting for the year.

The RNA/BHA/QSAC/HBS announcement is anybody guess.
The later it drags on the more likely it is HBS.

Do you think this will happen to the Gabba?

The last game at Waverley was mental. People were waking around post match with goalpoasts, patches of turf, seats. Good times.

What makes you think that MCG home games is a possibility. Hawks, Pies, Tigers can’t even get all their home games there. Reckon any extra Melbourne games would be at AFL owned Marvel.

Just spitballing/wish list Walshie, we normally only get 2 sometimes 3 games at the MCG each H&A season, Lions are desperate to get as many games there as possible.

With the recent IOC approving cricket for LA it will most likely be added to the Brisbane games.
LA got their wish to add Flag Football if they also included Cricket.

With the IOC approving six additional sports to appear at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games – Baseball, Cricket, Flag Football, Lacrosse, Squash, Softball – here’s what you can expect from each sport.

"We are thrilled. This is a game-changer for our sport that is already among the fastest growing in the world. The Olympic Games will undoubtedly increase the global reach of cricket, inspiring a whole new generation to love and play the game.

“The opportunity to win an Olympic medal also provides a new and exciting opportunity for our champion women’s and men’s teams.

“We look forward to working with the Australian Olympic Committee in the lead-up to the Los Angeles Games and are hopeful this will be the start of a long-standing relationship between cricket and the Olympics, including for Brisbane 2032."

If you want us to spend the money to upgrade MV Oval, we will have to let us use drop in pitches.

Or if we upgrade the showgrounds, same deal.

Whatever it takes to get a decent capacity for home games.

You would need to find another training ground over summer if you share BHA with cricket.

If Showgrounds is ruled out, reckon it might be moderate capacity upgrades @ BHA (15k) and AB Field (10k) and half the games at Metricon. This was one of the original plans.

The longer this goes on, the more likely Carrara will be involved. MVO is super convenient for me personally but I hope to god it's not upgraded to host senior mens' Lions games. No amount of magic thinking will create the infrastructure required in time, and it will ruin a beautiful boutique venue.

Basically, setting up the structure to run the games so nothing noteworthy for the general public.
Will just note a couple of things below.
........................

Brisbane 2032 was founded on three key principles:

(1) to deliver a great Games with optimal conditions for athletes,
(2) to celebrate the global impact of the Games through a longstanding social and economic legacy, and
(3) to accelerate the delivery of long-term infrastructure plans for sustainable development across South East Queensland
……………….
At 30 June 2023 Brisbane 2032 had Total Assets of $9.5 million and liabilities of $16 million.

On 1 June 2023 Brisbane 2032 received an advance from the IOC of A$15 million, representing an advance payment of Broadcast Rights revenue which are due under the Host City Contract. This first tranche of the IOC Broadcast Contribution, has been deferred as a long-term liability in accordance with Australian Accounting Standard AASB 15 - Revenue from Contracts with Customers.

$67k not bad for attending a few board meetings.
The problem with disclosing salaries is that we get comments like these.
There is a push for player salaries to become public. I can't wait to read on here about Rayner's salary and his worth.
