The problem with disclosing salaries is that we get comments like these.
There is a push for player salaries to become public. I can't wait to read on here about Rayner's salary and his worth.
I sincerley hope this doesn't happen as I see it as another complete invasion of privacy...I can just see the comments flying now.o_O

Difference is a public/government body v private (AFL).

Anyway, it is now November and we are still none the wiser about what will happen when the Gabba is out of action.

No difference whatever the status of the organisation IMO.
One can argue also AFL and clubs are registered as a nonprofit benevolent organisations and receive some pretty good tax concessions. Does that mean they have an obligation to disclose every cent that is spent, including player salaries?
Like I said once player salaries become public knowledge comments like yours will become far more aggressive and intrusive.

No, my post did not say AFL salaries should be made public. Publicly funded government organisation - yes. Can you not see the difference?

So they said The Gabba redevelopment starts in December 2025 little over two years from now. Still know announcement about where the club will play when they can’t use The Gabba. How long would upgrades to Showgrounds Brighton Homes Area take?

Does anyone think it will end up being Heritage Bank Stadium where they will play during the redevelopment of The Gabba?

I don’t.

It will be either Springfield or RNA.
But they need to get a move on that’s for sure.
Springfield will be a bit quicker to get ready I would presume.
Hell of a lot of work to do at the RNA.

My opinion only -- The longer the delay in announcing an alternative, the more likely this will be the result ...... (despite what has been said up to now).

I'm starting to think along the same lines. Cannot understand why they cannot make a decision by now unless there is something else going on. Carraraa will have me cancelling my 30 years continuous membership.

It’s now a vote buying excercise. The cost/benefit doesn’t stack up and the Lions are seen as collateral damage. Plus our friends in cricket are carrying on about Alan Border Field.

You could still maintain the membership with one of those remote ones so you don’t break your chain of continuous membership but I get out and don’t disagree that that’s what I suspect will happen to.

It is a bit absurd they planned for the gabba to have a 4 year hiatus while not having a plan for the existing tenants for that same period locked in.

Labor will probably get voted out next election and it will be someone else's problem for a few years.

If it ends up being the Heritage Bank Stadium, does any money need to be spent on developing it further or adding extra facilities to enable the Lions to use it for home games over the 4 year Gabba demolition period?

It’s an AFL standard ground. Unfortunately I can’t see as many Brisbane fans attending so 25k should be plenty capacity wise

If we end up at Carrara i can see the Government increasing capacity to 30k.
Austadiums list capacity now at 22,500.
Cricket now added to LA games so is now a certainty to be added to Brisbane Olympics.
A two-level stand at the open end and that should get it to 30K.
Carrara would then be one cricket oval in Queensland that has a reasonable capacity for Olympics.
This would mean the Lions along with the Suns travel during that Olympic period.

However, any option should have been announced by now.
Some faint hope something gets announced in the last sitting days of the Queensland Parliament being 28-30 Nov 2023.

If they were to make it Carrara, the only reason why I would keep my membership is so I can get early access to seats/membership at the new Gabba once completed.

The first plan floated by your club was a minor upgrade at Springfield to 12k - 15k for low drawing games, with the games v bigger Vic clubs/Swans @ Metricon. Metricon has 22,500 seats plus some GA. Reckon that might be the compromise. Six at each venue.

7 of our 11 Gabba 2023 games had a crowd of over 30,000... the other 4 were 25,528 v Dockers, 23,286 v Suns, 28,561 v Swans and 24,843 v Eagles.

No way should we even consider a 12-15k stadium capacity for even 1 game let alone 6.

No doubt we are going to lose members over the 4 years of the Gabba rebuild but lets not cut our own throats and decimate our membership base completely.

Terrible idea.
And I would be surprised if this is what the club has floated.
AsPer M Malice it would decimate membership numbers and it has been stated by the club on numerous occasions that the bottom dollar of the club is one of the big considerations.
