For the first time in my life I have been polled! SMS poll for Newspoll asking questions about State Voting intention, Preferred Premier, Should the Olympics be cancelled, Preferred stadium option
I think both of these are very real possibilities.
It's clear to me from Grace Grace's comments the ALP know they are ****ed at the election (tbf it's been clear to most people since Palazczuk quit)
Miles won't quit he's the glass cliff candidate. when the ALP lose the new leader will just blame him
Vic Park is the best option but i am concerned about green space loss and PT access - only 1 train station within a 15min walk (in contrast to suncorp which has roma st and milton (tho otoh its right next to the busway which is very helpful)
Isn’t Cross River Rail going pretty close to Victoria Park? It's clear to me from Grace Grace's comments the ALP know they are ****ed at the election (tbf it's been clear to most people since Palazczuk quit)

from memory its making ekka station year round (thank god) which is within a 15 min walkIsn’t Cross River Rail going straight to Victoria Park?
oh i agree its the best option primarily because of how central it isThe thing about Vic Park is that it’s central, it’s much easier to figure out a PT option that piggybacks off the existing network because said existing network exists around it.
In contrast, trying to shoehorn in a public transport solution to QSAC would be a logistical nightmare, because it’s in the middle of bloody nowhere, meaning you can’t build any permanent solution because it will just go to waste.
Cross River Rail runs right through Vic Park, if we wanted to we could literally just build a Vic Park Station on the existing cross river rail line.from memory its making ekka station year round (thank god) which is within a 15 min walk
maybe they might build a direct link from roma st station to vic park? would be costly but would cut walking times
A Victoria Park Station would likely be just after it’s come out of the tunnel, I would say about where I’ve marked it.
Upgrade Vic Park to 100k ... for the sake of the people coming to the Olympics of courseThe other thing being reported now is that if the capacity is only 40K then the chances of regular people getting tickets to any sort of finals are approaching 0.
Darryn Lockyer will light the torch in the stadium.
And at the closing ceremony Julian O'Neill will put out the flame
I would like to get John Hopoate involved somehow, maybe something to do with the Olympic rings.Mal Meninga the flag bearer
Let me preface this by saying I prefer Vic Park to QSAC.In contrast, trying to shoehorn in a public transport solution to QSAC would be a logistical nightmare, because it’s in the middle of bloody nowhere, meaning you can’t build any permanent solution because it will just go to waste.
Wouldn't it be justice if they were exposed, but I doubt it .Its complete madness because its got the fingerprints of Rugby League all over it. No other way to make sense of it. There is a real wiff on the nose here, plenty of hidden agendas
"Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."NRL power play is the only thing that makes sense here.
Let me preface this by saying I prefer Vic Park to QSAC.
That statement isn't true at all. QSAC isn't far from the busway, which could be extended (in the form of separated busway or bus lanes) from Griffith University station to QSAC, then onto Sunnybank and Altandi station to interchange with Beenleigh and Gold Coast trains. This won't go to waste because Mains Rd is the conduit for several major bus routes and it connects the busway to the train line.
Everyone here is understandably frustrated, but exaggeration isn't useful. QSAC isn't in the middle of nowhere, it's next to one of the busiest intersections in Brisbane (Mains Rd - Kessels Rd) and the highway. I agree there's not much in walking distance from the place though (yet).
It can if it were elevated (or underground, but that costs more). That can’t happen though, think about. There’s a reason the busway doesn’t go down mains road, it’s not a tenable option.
I can't stress this enough, f**k cars. People should be rewarded for choosing to take the more efficient and sustainable option of public transport over driving, in the form of being able to bypass traffic jams. Buses shouldn't have to sit in them along with cars.Traffic on Mains road is sh*thouse at the best of times. By extending the busway down there, you’re either condemning Mains road to become an unusable carpark by taking out traffic lanes, or you’re clearing houses and businesses.
As above, elevated on columns above the road, or underground, avoids all this.Even the stretch from Griffith station to QSAC - again it’s either houses or clearing part of the cemetery.
I agree the LNP won't do it if they gain power in October, because they'll never choose to benefit public transport more than the private car. But Miles is already facing a public outcry, so what's one more? And for all the car lovers who complain, there will be just as many people who already take public transport or would do so if it were faster, that would be in favour. It cannot and will not happen, the public outcry would make the school look like a single angry email.

We need to get the Bubbler involved ,Todd Carnie.I would like to get John Hopoate involved somehow, maybe something to do with the Olympic rings.
