It sure seems the narrative is changing doesn't it!

It's amazing how much of an influence the media has in all this...I think Miles was running scared when he chose Qsac, too worried he'd be attacked in the media over the spend and wanted an easy out. Being so new to the job he didn't have the ticker to make big decisions.

They have either warmed to the idea or perhaps just kinder towards a liberal government but it seems to me Crisafulli won't really cop any heat if he decides to proceed with Vic park.....and if he does so will make Miles really look really small minded and even insulting to Brisbanites if Qsac is all he thought our city deserves.

Meanwhile Crisafully will be able to parade around Brissie for the rest of his days spruiking how he saved Brisbane and delivered us the world leading sporting precinct we've longed for! And for a similar cost that labour was going to blow on delapidated old venues for no long term benefit at all.

Fingers crossed the Lions are still this darn good when they finally complete it so I can attend a sold out 80,000 strong final there!!

It definitely is a legacy to the individual leader too. Melbourne park is still spoke of here as thanks to John Caine, I don't even know if he was a good leader or what party he was from, but he definitely is recognised for building that. It's the pride of Melbourne the sporting precinct so close to the city. I'm sure Perth and Adelaide premiers that brought those stadiums forward get similar recognition now too.

The bolded is true re every topic, it's all about politics, money, message and perception.

We are heading away this weekend so have just gone to do an early vote.
The LNP dude who was there was wearing a Lions Hat and I said, Go Lions, you going to build us a new Stadium?
He answered “Yep, via Consortium at VIC Park”.
Take from that what you will but it Peaked my interest.

There has certainly been some talk of a consortium built stadium but not necessarily at VIC Park, but it would leave some money in the Kitty for the Government to build a new Train Station at VIC Park to access the facility, sounds like a winner to me.
Was my man from the election (as per my post above) on the money?

Lot of talk in that Pod with Liveris about Private money coming into play.
And Generational infrastructure in combination with Private investors.

Things are definitely looking more positive on the VIC Park front.

Crissafulli doesn’t appear to be one to backflip on any decisions the Review finds.

Unless he sways their minds during the process to come up with his option which appeared to be pointing toward the Gabba Re-build unless that was all just spin.

Could be wrong, but didn't 9 News report that Miles only chose QSAC because he didn't want to go with Vic Park and was going to dump the Games, but then Coates suggested QSAC as the alternative venue?

Tim arvier reported labor questioned what the cost of dumping the games would be, I don't think that equates to them actually doing it, they chose qsac to bide time, coates got involved because the Olympic movement was on the nose with the Gabba saga

And only succeeded in making it more on the nose.
I can’t work out Coates’ thinking….largest
& most prestigious sporting event in the world….to host athletics on what looks like a high school carnival venue.

But at the end of the day as a Lions fan I want to be able to take my girls to games that we miss out on currently with all the Gabba sell outs & as a Brisbane resident I want our city to have a stadium as good as all our other cities get to have so we attract more big events & win the test opener back!
Sounds like we may finally be back on track you never know 🤞🤞🦁

IOC had no other takers. They need to get used to them not being the money sink they once were

Good on Qld if they sharpen their
pencils

Long, long way to go, but Gout Gout could be an enormous story of this Olympics. In some ways, maybe even as big as Cathy Freeman was for Sydney 2000.

A bit more on Liveris from yesterday.
The article mentions some of the "against" people
A lot more will come out if it does get approval.
I hope Schrinner has done enough consultation with certain parties (heritage, first nations) on his VP Masterplan to smooth the way for a stadium.
.......................................................................

“Access points matter, especially with the Olympics. Where do the athletes come in? Where do the food and beverage come in? Where do the VIPs come in? All of that needs to be solved for economically.

“If a stadium like that appears at Victoria Park, that fits the future of cricket and [Australian rules] football perfectly, and has private sector funding that gives it a return model like Optus Stadium out in Perth, then of course would say ‘wow, what a great answer for the Olympics’.”
Liveris said private investment would be key to delivering the project within the state and federal governments’ $7.1 billion funding envelope.

“If you don’t want to increase the allocation from federal or state government, which neither government does want to do, then the private partnership model comes into play,” he said.

“Here’s the good news – there are people all over the world that do this for a living. There are people in Australia that do this for a living.

I remember people from country Victoria would call him, "John Caine, premier of Melbourne". LOL.

Seems like the LNP and IOC are getting everyone on message now that the mess of campaigning the election is over. The narrative build is moving much quicker than I thought it would. I suppose you need to be in a good spot with the narrative by the time the report is released so that it is just a continuation of the existing narrative rather than the foundation.

I got around to reading the newer version of Brisbane Bold by Arcadis.
We all want a new stadium especially Lions and cricket members.
Just need to get private or private/public agreement and that may make everything viable.

A few things i noticed

The main one being the breakdown of costings which was missing from the original that only mentioned a total possible cost. The new total could be just ballpark, but Arcadis appear to be a large international company and this sort of project they appear to have vast experience in.

They mentioned first nations context and working with Turrigal & Yuggera first nations people.
Hopefully they have looked at all the heritage listed parts of the park. They did include Gundoo Memorial Grove.
First nations people will form part of the heritage though.

They support the enhancement of the BCC Victoria Park/Barriambin Masterplan

Will consult with just about everyone including Queensland Health, Brisbane Lions, cricket also GIICA.
I had no idea who GIICA was but that's the new Authority - Games Independent Infostructure & Coordination Authority.

One good point they mentioned was their plan has flexibility. They specifically mention Roma Street Parklands and the Brisbane Arena project that apparently is well underway?
However, they mentioned if the costs come back as “unsuitable”, they have included this arena in their project.
Even though they may expect to miss out on BA with this project they make a sneaky point on page 9.
Elevated land bridge “fraction of the costs of capping Roma Street”
Not sure if they are referring to the old or new site though

A few things look like they may go when looking at the plan.

What makes way to build the Community Sports Precinct to be the athletics warm up track

All of Gilchrist Avenue.
Counting the car parks on google maps that is around 155 car spaces lost.
Most of these would be used by Health staff or visitors to the hospital precinct.
Two rectangular sporting fields and practice cricket nets.
They may get this back in legacy mode if not some sporting organization will.
CRR Unity office and large car park. Presently being used for Cross River Rail and most likely not needed when CRR ready for passengers early 2026.

Costs

Public Realm Deck & Extra Parkland + Stadium + Aquatics Centre + Brisbane Arena = $6 billion
Public Realm Deck & Parklands + Stadium + Aquatic Centre = $5.117 billion
Public Realm Deck & Parkland + Stadium = $4.606 billion
The expensive Public Realm & Parkland ($1.965 billion) should be cheaper with just a Stadium. Less space likely needed.

Timeframe
I have no idea but the 4 months for the Project Validation Report seems a short time
I am going on past ones for big projects.
We are still waiting on the Gabba rebuild one from around 12 months ago.
Also, the urgent new Roma Street Parklands one from March 2024.

Let's hope the plan gets a favorable hearing but there will be others submitted for sure.

Gout Gout will be 24 for the Brisbane Olympics after competing in LA as a likely medal chance at 20 years old. We could be seeing Bolt’s records beaten at our games, to one of Australia’s own.

Imagine if we were keeping QSAC for that moment 😂 We need an 80,000 seater for that
