Near closing time so another old proposal has been sent to the authority.

For a global firm to send a submission pretty much the same as they did to Quirk is a bit on the cheap side.

Not sure if the link will open. The proposed site is the Mayne Rail Yards.
Oh good grief, it's way too late for that now. They already put millions into redoing the yard.

They have just spent big money and 2 years upgrading this area in readiness for CRR.
This section of CRR completed 12 months ago. Not sure why they have even submitted the plan.
To get free advertising. The suckers in the media will be happy to put their company's name out there to get themselves an easy story.

Most likely you would have to build a new railyard first, so the transition could go as smoothly as possible.
Then start demolishing the old one. Then build this proposed big project.
Pretty much. The whole exercise would probably take ten years from start to finish. We don't have ten years.

It would not surprise me they just want their name being put out there as you say.
No doubt the Mayne Rail Yard area is reasonably close to the CBD and in the future would be way more valuable than somewhere 10klm out from the city.
Most likely they may get involved when a decision is made on the stadium location, and a procurement process begins.
It look's look like they do some big projects worldwide.
They only opened an Australian office in 2019 in Sydney

I can't wait until Save Victoria Park start protesting on the ground that it will disrupt the ibis colony living in York's Hollow.
They've taken notes from "Rethink the Gabba" and they're currently lobbying for a school to be set up there in the next few weeks so they can complain about how far the kids would have to travel to the next school over.

Pity Kelvin Grove State College is there already. Was hoping that it was originally part of the parkland but the first school was built there in 1875 at the same time the park was gazetted according to a search. I would be OK with demolishing some of the QUT campus for parkland though.

The 5 ex Brisbane Lord Mayors probably waiting for the outcome.
If VP is suggested as the preferred site for a stadium, they will then come out in force opposing the decision.
Most likely they put in a submission to the Authority for now.
I sent the review panel an(other) email today, noting how the "save Victoria Park" gaggle had gone to great lengths to NOT propose an alternative site for the stadium.

The only rational explanation for this is that even THEY realise that Victoria Park is the best and most appropriate place for a stadium, and as soon as they suggest an alternative, no matter what that is, it will become obvious.

Isn't quirk an ex Lord mayor and schinner is definitely on side, both liberals so a more direct influence on the current government, that's 2 out of 5 (although the other 3 might be libs as well, I dunno).

Don't think we've seen anything public from most of the former LMs on the issue. The only public statement that has been made is from Newman. Who doesn't support Vic Park, but supports either 'the Gabba, Hamilton Northshore [or] Mayne Yards' instead.

This came out after the Quirk review so some time ago.
Two below

Just google "5 lord mayors oppose Victoria Park" and see results. Not heaps but it made all the news channels at the time.

Three Labor and 2 Liberals

The main thing is the present Lord Mayor is now (after his reelection) is in favor of Victoria Park having a stadium.

Yeah I don't think they'll care about the ex labor ones but not sure what Campbell Newman is doing there, he'll no doubt be reigned in if the libs wanna go that way. The whole thing is so ridiculous there is a tonne of space there.

Yeah, sorry meant for the 100 Day Review. I think Newman is the only one who's made a submission to the current review, at least that we know publicly.

I hate the rhetoric that existing parks are under pressure. Crock of shit. The existing parks such as the Brisbane City Park and Roma st parklands are constantly used, but even in beautiful sunny days, aren't at capacity.

Furthermore, this rhetoric makes it out like we're choosing between a green space or a stadium when in reality we will have both and the green space surrounding the stadium will see more use than it ever has.

Part of me is curious if Newman is a member of the Save Victoria Park group lol

Probably read the speculation that the Olympic housing could be used for public servants post-games and flipped out.

Thanks for Newmans full 2-page submission. He really did put in an effort.
Maybe with no staff to write anything for him anymore he had to do it himself.

Yorks Hollow/Barrambin/ Victoria Park pretty much covered the Herston/Bowen Hills suburbs area.
Brisbane was and is a growing city, something had to fill those two suburbs eventually.

He bizarrely mentions, University, RNA, two Inner City Busways and the Legacy Way Tunnel as occupying VP green space.
He did not mention the RBWH being the largest hospital in Australia or the two schools in the area. The balance of land went to housing of course with a sprinkling of smaller parks in the area. The university and the 2 schools have sporting field within their grounds.

He notes that Victoria Park- "exclusion of the public from free use open space" but in other parts he mentions Golf and that it is only since 2019 that this has been the case. So, 5 years exclusive use for the public. Hardly an argument.

There will be a loss of mature trees, but it can be kept to a minimum as it is mostly grass fairways and is not a forest.
Maybe they can replant a % of trees lost.

The first nations and to a lesser extent heritage issues are real but i hope that has mostly been sorted with the BCC Masterplan.

No doubt there will be increased car/foot traffic around the area. Thats why i suggested a new rail station to reduce that issue.

Newman using Suncorp (Lang Park), Ballymore and Perry Park as negative examples for occupying green space is absurd.

Lang Park: Initially was a cemetery then a recreational area (image below) then a Rugby League/Athletics venue then it's present use.

I would like to see MUCH more get done with the open grassland areas (ie the former greens and fairways). In my view we should be looking to turn the vast majority of the remaining parkland into a much more dense forest type area, with paths through it to allow ease of accessibility to the stadium precinct.

Great post overall... You should communicate this to the review panel if you haven't already. The official feedback period has closed but the email address (100dayreview@gvlda.au) I'm sure will still work.

**** them. I've been to Vic Park twice for a look and both times there was literally no one there (okay maybe like three people). These NIMBY's won't even be around once the Stadium is built or at best will be shipped off to their nearest nursing home.

Is Brisbane a modern city or not? Every other major capital city has a dedicated parkland/entertainment precinct. Or close to.

We need the FOMO's to step up and cancel out these NIMBY's. Maybe we need Midnight Oil, The Who, Fleetwood Mac Rolling Stones etc to come out and leave BNE off an Australian Tour due to lack of appropriate venue. **** these Boomers.

Thanks
But i have had my say to the Authority so that's enough.
About 8 weeks to go before we get some sort of decision. Just 6 weeks before the LNP get a draft Summary

I quite like the BCC masterplan, (latest construction costs i could find was $140 million) but it would have to be altered some if a stadium was to get approval. At present they can't do anything about the large area of the golf driving range.

Maybe they need a procurement process to include the BCC masterplan as a guide for what's required in the surrounding area and include both going to the successful applicant. They would need to keep the funding separate so unlikely to happen.
Would be cheaper in the long run but that does not appear to be the Governments priority. That being keep within budget.
Also hard to explain in short press conferences to the general public who are easily swayed by their political links.

The Mayne Rail Yards company did the "Gardens by The Bay Singapore" that had 11 million visitors in 2023.
We would only require something on a much smaller scale in the $140 million plus area. They also did the Lords Cricket Ground stands. I am sure Arcadis would be up to planning the surrounds also along with other companies.
As Andrew Liveris reminded everyone there are companies in Australia and worldwide that do this for a living so one should not be hard to find within budget parameters.

Tell us what you really think 😂

To be fair, Midnight Oil make me chuckle.

I once went to see them up at one of those vineyards west of Newcastle. Birds Of Tokyo opened for them so it was a cracking day all round. Anyway Peter Garrett did his thing all through the concert, preaching about the environment and whatnot in between all the songs.

Then at the end of the show there was this massive fireworks display! Cos I bet those were carbon neutral right 😅

Not to mention the crowd who clapped and applauded basically everything Garrett said all through the show... And then left all their rubbish behind when they left!

Talk the talk, walk the walk.
