I've read that series too. Amazing what the death of the writer does to pick up the pace of the writing!
Is it worth it? Not much of a fantasy reader, but enjoyed the intrigue of GoT.

Ummm. Maybe. It lacks the depth, character development and political intrigue of GoT. But I found it a good read, albeit as slow a plot as I've ever read for about 3 or 4 books. I started reading it when I was about 16 and was probably more escapism as much as anything which kept me with the series.

Actually, the more I think about it, I probably would have given up on the series had I started reading it at my current age. Don't read it on my recommendation but if you are looking for something new, then you'll get some enjoyment out of it.

The only fantasy series that I can think of off the top of my head with similar intrigue is the Mistress of the Empire series by Raymond E. Feist, but it's a lot less "dark" and is mainly focused around one centre character.

If you're looking for intrigue I'd steer away from WoT, because everyone's basically what they seem only better (or occasionally evil).

Because I spent most of my teenage years reading D&D related fantasy, I haven't really been able to get into any high fantasy that doesn't fit into the D&D multiverse. I feel broken.

OK. I read a few books from the Dragonlance series as a teenager. Are they connected?

Sure are, was mainly referring to Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms books. Also Ravenloft, Planescape, Dark Sun and any of the other world modules that had fiction.

They were actually surprisingly good in general, but I never had any issues picking up any other fantasy book and carrying on...

...you are broken.

Yeah that is it. IIRC, there were some interesting characters in it but they just weren't really developed.

There wasn't much in that series, but there's some really interesting (by the standards of branded fiction) backstories in the Meetings series.

Just throw an Emmy at Peter Dinklage now.

A noticably better episode.

Can't be bothered checking if they had different writers or directors for that episode but it felt like they did.

No book spoilers please, but as a TV only GoT watcher, I hope Robin is next out the moon door. I suspect it won't happen though. Keeping him alive will probably allow Littlefinger to be Lord Regent of the Vale.

Only if Brandon Sanderson's writing it.
I have no idea how he manages to churn out such a high volume of quality writing so fast.
The Stormlight Archive(his WoT equivalent) should be finished by 2030 if he continues to finish a book every 2 years. I'd definitely recommend the 1st two books(that is if anyone has the time to read two 1000 page books). I found Words of Radiance(the 2nd book) in particular to be quite amazing, absolutely loved it.
