Watching the cats vs hawks and swans vs GWS I sit and shake my head at the chip chip no tackle game plan. Even if we ever get to another finals series we will get smashed by the teams that tackle , pressure and run. It makes me so sad that we have to watch what we do. Oh well at least I can enjoy what real football is about.

Agreed. I don't understand why we go with it. Hope Hardwick looks at it and then changes it.
Don't hold your breath for that. The stubborn arse Hardwick will back his 2009 hawforn game plan to be the next winning format. Is asking footballers to split atoms instead of playing what comes natural, see ball, get ball, move ball forward.......

Yep watching these games wish we stick with the 2013 style. Thats what teams are playing now. I dont understand why we cant seem to go back to that.

Then look at the hardness in this swans gws game. We would crumble imo.

We still wouldn't be hard enough. Not in these teams league.

That being said hopefully the end of the year VFL is an indicator of our changing game plan

Wanting to play fast and having the cattle to do it are two separate things.
We haven't recruited leg speed, and don't have the cattle to play a run and gun game style.
Dimma has ****ed us with his prioritising of good kicks over speed and endurance.

I reckon 2013 stuffed us right up. Sacrificed 3x 6 goal leads to Carlton, I reckon it spooked Dimma out of it a bit.

We should be spooked back into it. I reckon our defence is mature enough now to handle such a situation and come out on top.
Problem is though, I'm not sure our skills are up to it anymore. Though, if it becomes a focal point of our pre-season, there's certainly no reason we can't bring it back.

If you want to play a defensive style of footy you at least need to have hard nuts, skilled players with the ability to tackle.
We have none with all of these requirements.
Tackles

Crows 65 v North 43
GWS 96v Swans 64
Cats 63 v Hawks 65
WB 77 v Eagles 79

We at best could match norths count and still lose to them by 10 goals which says a lot of where our list is at.

Disagree on two points

1. We have leg speed we just don't use it, Deledio, Martin, Rioli, Markov, Menadue and Yarran and Maca to come back all have leg speed, we just don't spread well and quick enough because we move the ball slowly.

2. Our game plan is stop and wait, be careful don't take unnecessary risks which puts more pressure on the skills

How about we just play on at every opportunity, knock the ball forward, guys run forward ahead of the ball into space that will improve our leg speed overnight.
